Summary: appeasing
Review: the transfer is ok. the special features (with the exception of the "voices of death"- that was creepy) fell flat. as always, jodie foster + anthony hopkins transfer what could have been a horrible gross-out, rely on the gore horror movie into an exciting journey into fbi trainee starling's mind as seen through the ever so terrifying (but strangely appealing) eyes of dr. hannibal lecter. with the exception of the "voices of death" special feature, there's really no reason to get this in criterion. if you want to be terrified by the words of actual serial killers, buy this. if you don't, get the normal dvd.

Summary: A Great Disc!
Review: The Criterion Collection DVD is amazing. Beautiful picture, audio and extras. The soundtrack and music are so very creepy. Get it before Criterion loses the rights.

Summary: Number 1 movie of the last decade.
Review: The Silence of the Lambs is a movie that in a couple of decades from now will stand as the groundbreaker in the dark thriller genre. It's clear to see where Seven and The Usual Suspects got their inspiration from. Even though the novell gives a better insight into Lecter's character, I've learned that it's better to judge a movie on the movie itself then to compare it with the book. What I love about this DVD, is that after 8 years, you still learn something new about the movie. At the end of the film, when Jamie Gumb points the gun at Clarice's back, Jodie Foster explains in the commentory that you can see the shadow of the gun on het back. I a completely dark basement it is impossible to see a shadow. Just to that little fact makes it worth to buy this DVD.

Summary: Good but not great as people say
Review: I still feel this is one of the most overrated films of all time. It was a good film, no question about that but not a masterpiece like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I didn't think that Jodie Foster acted all that well in the movie but Anthony Hopkins was brilliant. The movie was predictable at times and its direction was shaky at the same time.

Summary: EFFECTIVE HORROR FILM BUT.....
Review: If you can definitely get the Criterion Collection version of this film. It has many extra features such FBI stuff, director's commentary, etc.

One of the things that has always bothered me, is a kind of glamorizing of this cannibalistic murderer.

I see where a sequal is being made. I suspect that Lechter will be in some way rehabilitated.

Another thing is the picture of Jamie Gumm. I thought he looked kind of silly and not all that ominous

A more realistic picture of a serial killer can be found in "Henry, Portait of a Serial Killer."

Summary: Well made movie true to the book
Review: Only one reason this is not 5 stars - Anthony Hopkins. No, I didn't think he was terrible, or that he badly overacted, he just misinterpreted the part. I have read Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs, as well as seen both Manhunter and this movie. Brian Cox gave a much more faithful depiction of the character Thomas Harris created.

Summary: Extremely creepy, spiced with dark humor and fava beans
Review: What a tremendous impact this movie makes on you when you watch it for the first time. Jodie Foster's initial contact with Hannibal Lecter in the maximum-security unit is as creepy as you could wish for. Her psychological duel with Lecter keeps the film flowing along. The gradual unfolding of the character of the woman-skinner Buffalo Bill is extremely well-handled. Unlike in some movies, the violent ending is perfectly justified by what we have learned of Buffalo Bill's psychopathic nature. Hopkins is accused by some earlier reviewers of hamming up his part, to which the best response is: So do all egocentric cannibals, did no one tell you?

Summary: WOW!
Review: This film is the film that has received the best five of the Academy Awards since One Flew Over the Cukooo's Nest. Best picture, director, actor, actress, and the screenplay. And the most special thing about this psycho-thriller is that this is the first horror film to be named best picture of the year. It's the modern psycho-thriller film. Just as people say The Unforgiven was the modern western film. This is a real well done flick. The idea of this film isn't that bad. I was willing to give this film 4.5 out of 5. But there weren't any .5 marks.
