Summary: Stupid movie
Review: This movie, was an attempt at some type of conspiracy flick. It had too much gratuitous nudity and violent sex scenes. I was very disappointed. The entire plot and characters were implausible and the staging flawed. There was a hint of likelyhood that some of these thing could happen, but not everything. Thumbs down in my book. I'll watch an X files rerun any day over this.

Summary: Absolutely PERFECT Travolta...
Review: This was an outstanding video, and it has to be one of the best Travolta movies I've seen. I much prefer to see him playing the "good-guy", but I know he has played some great bad-guys too. The plot was very deep, and keeps you guessing for most of the movie. I'm glad to have this as part of my collection.

Summary: Yes, it really was that bad
Review: The General's Daughter was just as bad as everyone said it was, but Michele has a thing for Madeline Stowe and I have a thing for Jimmy Woods, so we rented it. Ugh. I've developed a theory-- it takes a great screenwriter to get a good movie out of a mediocre novel (for example, the chap who did the screenwriting for Hitch, who transformed many a bad book into an excellent film). And GD didn't have a great screenwriter, or even a good one. Travolta, however, does a spot-on Georgia accent. Oh, yeah-- and a shoo-in for most annoying soundtrack of the year and most annoying song of the year ("Sea Lion Woman," which should be stewed in a fire kindled from its own sheet music).

Summary: Terrible movie -- Bad plot, Lame dialogue, Eroticized Rape
Review: Don't see this movie or buy it. It was a poor excuse for an action movie. The end makes no sense -- the murderer has no motive.

And... to top it all off. The rape seen is totally eroticized. The female protagonist is in agony, and we, as viewers, keep seeing her perfect nipples. It's enough to traumatize any female viewer.

Summary: The General's Daughter DVD Review: Exciting movie and more
Review: I heard different opinions of this movie. I wanted to see it because this movie has an all-star cast, it must be good right? In this case, the story of this movie is definitely good and the DVD has so much more.

I loved the storyline. As Travolta said in the featurette, this story is unique and different than any story you will see in Hollywood and I agree. It opens your eyes to a new way of seeing females in the military, honoring the military by all means necessary and much more.

So, I really enjoyed the movie and a finger can be pointed on many people and you have to guess who murdered the General's daughter.

The color of the movie is really nice and the sound is well done. I heard sound effects and crickets chirping coming from the rear surrounds. Very cool!

As for the extra's, better than average. You get the theatrical trailers and a 20 minute featurette. Also, the deleted scenes and alternative ending is really cool to watch.

A very good DVD and I recommend it to all those who are in a mood for a mystery!

Summary: The Book Was Better!
Review: I made the mistake of seeing this movie after I read the book (Author is Nelson DeMille, by the way). I loved the book. Didn't like the movie so much. In the book, the dialog was much better, and there was better chemistry between Paul and Sarah/Cynthia. The book also left a few clues as to who the killer is, and in the movie, they seem to grab their conclusions out of thin air. My advice is save yourself a few bucks, and since you're on Amazon anyway, buy the book.

Summary: TRAVOLTA AND FREUD DO THE ARMY
Review: Psychiatry and Hollywood fell in love a long time ago. We all remember the famous dream conceived by Salvador Dali for Alfred Hitchcock in the mid-forties. Then we had to bear the Tennessee Williams saga with such movies as Joseph Mankiewicz's SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER or Richard Brooks's CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. In the seventies came the psycho-killers with their bloody knives and their possessive mothers.

So one could qualify THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER as a psycho-thriller. With a good plot. The best scene of the movie is the confrontation between John Travolta and James Woods. For once, the basics of Psychology have been respected by the screenwriters and the dialogs - and the actors- are terrific.

Director Simon Wincer has the not so common ability to create strange atmospheres in a movie. During the first ten minutes of THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER, I was convinced that John Travolta was in mission in South Asia. Too many movies about Viet-Nam, I suppose...

A DVD to rent. Typically.

Summary: C, Average, and Regular Flavor
Review: The General's Daughter is the epitome of an average movie. It has an average plot, average acting, and average believability.

It is the story of a woman who's been murdered on a US military base. The woman just happens to be a United States Army officer and the daughter of the base's general. Paul Brenner (John Travolta) has been sent to investigate the crime. Sara Sunhill (Madeleine Stowe) is a sex crimes expert who has also been assigned to work this case. Brenner doesn't like this because he always works alone and he has a romantic history with Sunhill.

This movie takes the usual turn as the general and his staff promise to help in any way they can but actually impede the investigation at every turn. The main culprit in this effort to obfuscate the truth is Col. Fowler (Clarence Williams III). It has some kind of sick sense of duty and what it means to serve your commanding officer.

Of course the investigation intially focuses on the wrong person who in turn points it in the right direction. The ending is a little perplexing as the key factors that support it are not entirely believable. I'm never really convinced that the general would do what he's done to his daughter with the care that he shows for her in the flashback scenes. I never belived that he was more concerned for the army than for her.

The General's Daughter is not a must see. If you have a chance to watch it, go ahead. You should be mildly entertained.

Summary: It has everything *but* a believable plot...
Review: First the good - the actors are fantastic. James Woods, Timothy Hutton, James Cromwell (that sweet old farmer in Babe) John Travolta, Madeleine Stowe - they are all wonderful performers. The movie really builds up in the first half and you're thinking, oh wow, who did it, how'd it happen - the suspense is great - but the second half just kind of falls flat.

The plot line, in it's whole, is more than a little implausible. The military is made up of normal men and women, most of which are good decent folks. I doubt *the terrible secret* could have been maintained - as this movie portrays.

And the graphic sex scenes and violence against women were too much for me. I don't see how that added anything needful to the plot.

The second half and the ending were very disappointing. Kind of left me looking at the VCR timer and wondering - how much time is LEFT on this turkey?

I gave it two stars because of the acting, the music, the first half... But 1.5 stars would be more appropos.
