Summary: Okay - but don't expect much...
Review: I bought my DAV2100 because I didn't have the cash to buy a better system. The old addage that you get what you pay for definitely applies here. Software is okay, but not dazzling. Performance is nominal, but some newer DVDs (with SS 5.1) may have playback problems - sound plays, but video freezes. After about a year or so, the thing starts breaking down - front panel display flickers, sound cutout, disc drawer freeze. I was impressed by the construction - all metal chasis and good ventilation. An average system for people who don't have the buck to buy a topline system. But uh... were I to do this again, I'd save up the bucks and buy the top line.

Summary: Cheap, but still a waste of money
Review: I bought this for my new HDTV. Once I got it home and unpacked everything, it seemed like a good system. Plenty of connections in the back including digital audio, component video and all that jazz. The sound quality was quite decent, I thought. (I'm no audiophile, though) and I liked that it had radio and everything built in. The system looked pretty decent too. There were several problems with the system, though. First and foremost there is no way to operate it without the remote. This can be a big issue if, say, you've just got some friends over to watch a DVD and suddenly you can't find your remote. Then, in a paradoxical turnaround, you can't skip to a particular disk without cycling through the ones before it (i.e. if you're on disk 1 and you want to go to disk 3 you have to first bring up disk 2). By far the worst problem was the DVD playback. It was jerky and choppy and the sound would make a loud click everynow and then. The worst DVD playback I've experienced since I had a first-generation player without a decoder card in my old computer. Once I found that out, I quickly returned the player.

Summary: Good for the cost
Review: I bought this on July 4th, 2002 and then read the reviews at Circuit City (when they still carried it). I was horrified at all the negativity. But, I hooked it up and tried it out. It's GREAT! Never had a moment of problems, the tuner works great and the additional input allow me to have my VCR and video games play on Dolby, too. Why this model is out of stock eludes me. I truly love this thing and recommend it highly! Don't always trust all reviews you read. Trust mine, instead! LOL

Summary: THIS IS THE GREATEST HOME THEATRE SYSTEM I HAVE EVER HAD!!
Review: I end up usually buying A awful home theatre system because I go through them quickly because of the massive amount of DVD's I watch, However this one has last me about 2 years. This system really rock. You definently gotta get your hands on one of these. [I really wish it would not have gone out of stock, I have a lot of friends that were interested in buying one after mine blew them away. Please give me a * I really worked hard on writing this one!!]

Summary: BEST SYSTEM FOR ME!!!!
Review: I think this is the best system. It has many features, has am/fm tuner + you can change volume of subwoofer.I think it even is supposed to play VCD & much more!! I use this system as a reciever for all my game systems, I definently HIGHLY RECOMMEND this system to anyone who wants a digital 5.1 dolby digital surround sound system. It is now out of stock, I would pick one of these up before there gone. when they were available retail was $269.99 & that was on sale, I'm very happy with mine!!!

Summary: Good low-cost DVD/Receiver combo - and region selectable!
Review: I've actually purchased this player as a gift for someone else, but I tried it out first to be sure it performed sufficiently. I was satisfied. The set-up was easy with color-coded wires, and the picture and sound were without noticeable problems. I even tried running my laserdisc player's sound through it, and its Dolby ProLogic decoding sounded good.

A little searching on the web will reveal that "Open tray - Menu - 1 - 6 - 7" lets you select the region code. ("Mute" selects region zero, or "all regions".) Of course, this player does not do PAL->NTSC conversion, so you can't watch PAL films without extra hardware.

I haven't tried the digital tuner or CD player, but I expect that those components also perform sufficiently.

Outputs:
Component Video
S-Video
Composite Video
5.1 analog audio (small but decent speakers & sub included)
Digital audio (coax & optical)
Stereo audio
Preamp audio

Inputs:
A/V (2)
Coax RF

The remote is a tad tricky to figure out, but I didn't have any functionality problems with it.

The biggest downside of this system is that it's all integrated - you can't swap out the receiver or DVD player for a better model if you choose to do so later. (Also, there is no digital audio input, so you couldn't run a different DVD player's digital audio through this receiver...)

Overall, I'd say this is an excellent system for the price, if you're not planning to upgrade for a while.

Summary: Only buy this if you need a set of speakers.
Review: This DVD player is very sensitive to whether or not the disk is clean. Many DVDs that I have will not play on this player, but will play on my other devices without problem.

Also, the DVD player has no way to access the menus if you happen to lose the remote.
