Summary: Works good, for a little while
Review: I bought this system about a year and a half ago and until about two weeks ago I was very pleased with it, the sound quality was quite good and it was a breeze to hook up. But then all of a sudden the thing goes crazy, now voices dont play on my dvds, the speakers will randomly shut down so at any given time only two of them work and the center channel doesn't work at all anymore. Of course the warranty has long since expired so I will not be buying another phillips system anytime soon.

Review: I brought this item and I had to return it for problems unknown but I thought it was such a great item I purchased another one after returning the first one. It was a gift for someone else and he as well wanted the item replaced. I would recommend purchasing this item to anyone. I also looked around for another one and I still chose to buy the Philips Home theatre after my search. I'm happy with my choice and so is the person I purchased it for. Very,very,happy. So many things can be done and the sound is great even when playing the playstation on it. Just great.

Summary: DVD/CD Player stopped working in three weeks
Review: I did not want all the bells and whistles. I only wanted to reduce the number of components. I thought a combo receiver/CD/DVD player would be the way to go.I found that the functionality of the DVD was reduced from my standalone Toshiba. Performance was adequate, no better. Setup was easy and quick. Sound was adequate. Unfortunately, the DVD and CD feature stopped working after about three weeks of intermittent use. It will cycle through two attempts to read a DVD then indicate "no valid disc." It will read an audio CD display the number of tracks then stop. Disks that played before no longer play, the same disks play fine on other units. Calling the Philips Service Center Info line and checking their web page yielded no help. Now I get to disconnect everything, find the box, fill the box and sent it to their service center. ***UPDATE*** I sent the unit to the Service Center (at my expense)just before US Thanksgiving. I received the repaired unit today (3 Jan). The repairs were covered by the warranty. The DVD portion was replaced (the note indicating the repair details was mostly indecipherable). It is working now.

Review: i had similar problems with this unit. it was extremely easy to install and had a great sound and picture. however, the problems started the subsequent week. first, i noticed the dialogue was never in synch with the actors lips. then, it started to play by itself one morning at 4:00 AM. finally, it would not open up at all and play disks. i had to call philips several times, and i just never got a good feeling that it would be fixed - for example they could not find my warantee info and they just said to send it in, not even giving the address or logging the problem, and that the shipping would be at my expense and that it would take at least 3 weeks.

Review: My husband and I are thinking about purchasing this system for our new home. We wired the house so we could do surround sound - and are wondering if anyone can tell us if this unit comes with a stereo receiver? Thanks for any help.
