Rating: Summary: An easy fix Review: Like everyone else I bought this KLH system at a discount price of 75 bucks + 40$ in shipping. When I first got it I was upset by the fact that it "Too Loud" as others have mentioned. However, I have found a quick and easy fix for this - Blow out the speakers! Just Kidding. I really wanted this system to watch every day TV because I do not rent videos from the store. I purchase them "ON DEMAND". It took me a little while to figure out but I have a great setting that you all can use for your Television: -Plug the Center speaker and the BASE BOOM BOX from the main speaker chamber to the Audio "Out-puts" from you TV. -Then plug the left and right speakers from the main speaker chamber to you CABLE AUDIO "Output" on all your cable boxes. This produces a MASSIVE sound that can be controlled with your TV and Cable Volume controls rather than the messed up Volume controls on the KLH DVD system. Buy movies from Paperview! If you do use the DVD only keep the extra two "back" speakers plugged in it as it won't be as loud. The speaker system and Bass tubes are magnificent for 75 bucks when connected to the Cable and TV, who cares about the DVD. CNN, ESPN, and Sunday football games are MASSIVE with the sound. Now go hook it up!
Rating: Summary: Awefully Loud...for cds and dvds Review: Stay away from this one. the volume is only adjustable to audible level when on radio mode. Like the rest, I found the volume "one" for cd and dvd is extremely loud. I live in an apartment in New York. At level one, it woke up the whole neighborhood. Don't even waste 10 bucks for this home theater system. It is not worth the hard-earned dollars. I am very disappointed, but to send it back might cost me almost the same price of the unit.
Rating: Summary: KLH DVZ-2500 DVD Player Default Password Review: The default password mentioned in the instruction book which comes with this product gives the INCORRECT code of 2001. The CORRECT, permanent, hard-coded, will-always-work password is 3308. The problem is that the default for the parental lock is ON. And there are many movies you cannot watch without unlocking the parental lock. Then, when you look up how to turn it off in the instructions, the wrong code is given. After calling tech support I learned that this was a mistake in the instructions and that the correct default code is 3308.
Rating: Summary: The Password is... Review: The password for the parental control is 3308, not 2001. I got a hold of tech support finally, so anyone that is stuck can give that a try.
Rating: Summary: ok sound, but little else... Review: The sound on this system is generally ok. Unfortunately as many people have written; this system is unnervingly loud! Not to mention that the back of the speakers do not have any sort of holes in them for mounting brackets (even though they include them!) so are we supposed to risk screwing our own holes and breaking the speaker to mount them properly? This is basically what I was told from KLH's support. The bottom line: if you like VERY loud speakers at the lowest volume, questionable support service and shoddy quality control and craftsmanship, these speakers are for you!
Rating: Summary: I returned it without even pluggin' it Review: This is actually a DVD player in a big box, with 5 small speakers and a heavy subwoofer, it's not a HTIB, it's not an A/V receiver. This system has no input available whatsoever. It says somewhere in the instructions that the most you would get from a CD is a stereo sound, the Dolby digital is only for DVDs. But the biggest issue is that you cannot even put the sound from VCR/satellite/TV through it, doesn't matter it's quality...
Rating: Summary: Great sound and picture Review: This item is so much more than I thought it would be. For the money to get a stereo / DVD player and radio it is unbelievable. It looks great and sounds better. My family loves it.
Rating: Summary: I found the password! Review: This system is mostly O.K. The sound is actually quite good for the price. I have not found a solution to the volume problem though. It is just too loud at the minimum volume setting. I sent an email to KLH but I doubt that there's a solution. As with many other reviewers, the default password published for the parental controls is wrong. The correct password is 3308 (at least on mine). If I could turn it down, I'd keep it. I have a feeling it's going back.
Rating: Summary: No instructions, no manual and no help Review: This system might be ok. I would need an instruction manual first. The system came without the manual and nobody seems to be able to find one. Apparently this is a new system so there are no manual available for it? One problem that we may or may not be able to fix is the input level for the DVD player. The volume level can not be adjusted on this system it is alway playing TOO LOUD. So loud actually, that we can't even use the system because it is TOO LOUD. We might eventually be able to adjust the input volume level but we will need an instruction manual to do it. Since there are no instruction manuals available we won't be able to turn it down, or live with a system that performs this way. I am sure I will eventually have to return this item.
Rating: Summary: what is the password? Review: Three things: 1) There are no sound inputs, as other reviewers have pointed out. Personally, I don't mind, as I have my VCR running through my home stereo system already. It would be nice if I could play my CD, tape, and record players through it, though. 2) The default sound level is quite loud, but this can easily be adjusted on the "Preferences > Dynamics" menu. You can only get to this menu if there is not a DVD in the player, though, which is just stupid. 3) The unit I ordered came with the parental control settings ON, and the default password given in the manual ("2001") is incorrect. I hope that the tech support phone number will be able to help on Monday, otherwise I will have to send this back.
