Rating: Summary: It stinks Review: 1) The lowest volume setting for DVD/CD playing is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY TOO loud!! I thought it was a problem with my unit, but other reviews here tell me otherwise. 2) The radio tuner doesn't tune in anything. 3) There doesn't seem to be any way to get the TV/cable/VCR to output sound through the speakers. 4) There doesn't seem to be any way to get the DVD sound to also come out through the TV. 5) You basically have NO manual to work with! You'll laugh when you see what they enclose. They do print an 800 # for support, but you'll get a recording that tells you they cannot accept voice mails at this time and that you'll have to call back. The onscreen setup isn't any easier. You'll pretty much have to know what all their codes and options mean. Unless you're an expert on home/video (which isn't the target audience for this product), you'll have no idea what most of the configuration settings mean. On the up side, the DVD player itself is good, but certainly not good enough to get the whole thing. I'm sending it back. Thank goodness Amazon.com has a liberal return policy!
Rating: Summary: OK DVD player if/when it works Review: 1) Volume problem when playing CD (too loud) 2) DVD played OK 3) Setup was easy (color-coded) and manual was OK 4) Got a replacement - same CD problem and DVD is broken as well - sending the whole thing back. 5) Would have been a nice system if it worked.
Rating: Summary: Lowest Volume Setting Still Too Loud Review: Although the DVD player & speakers are nice, the sound is still REALLY loud when the volume is turned down to "1". The volume is completely off at "0" and is loud at "1", very loud at "2", and continues up until it is ridiculously loud. I tried fiddling with all of the settings, but I could not reduce the volume to a moderate or soft level. Since I live in an apartment, I wanted to watch DVDs at a moderate volume with theater-quality sound. I could only get the sound moderate-to-soft by turning off most of the speakers, which defeats the purpose of a home-theater system.
Rating: Summary: Value City Baby Review: At first I was purchasing this HTIB as an inexpensive unit for a spare bedrooom. Once I had the unit hooked to the televsion, tweaked the placement of the speakers and listened to a few music videos, I realized that it sounded much better than my $400.00 unit that is hooked up to my television in the living room. The bottom line......Great sounding unit for the money...Oh Yes...It also is a DVD player as well.
Rating: Summary: Details, details! Review: Bought the system and had little trouble with the setup. I agree that it is loud. The system doesn't seem to adjust volume at all via the set up menu despite what the manual claims. It is also very frustrating to go play a PG movie only to find the parental locks are on and guess what- the manual has the wrong password. I would really like to see the correct default password posted. Overall I will say the system is a vast improvement over what I had before.
Rating: Summary: Cannot use with Cable or Satellite TV Review: Even thouth it says it is a receiver. It is not. You cannot hook up your cable TV to it and use the speakers. You can only use the speakers if you play a DVD or listen to the tuner. It is not a true theater in a box as it says. I will be sending it back.
Rating: Summary: Piece of .... Review: Got this thing for my girlfriend as a Christmas gift. Hooked everything up Christmas eve, she was so excited, then the DVD player didn't work. Won't read DVD's or CD's. Thanks for ruining her Christmas KLH! That is why I buy Sony only...learned my lesson on this one.
Rating: Summary: This system stinks Review: I bought this system as a Christmas gift for my husband. I am embarrassed to even say I spent one cent on this so called DVD Home Theatre System. Can you return it? I do not even see where you can return this item. We will be watching the a DVD and the volume will just go mute. It is very aggravating. If you turn the volume up past one you get blasted! I would not recommend this system.
Rating: Summary: didn't bother hooking it up Review: I bought this unit because of its high rating and it seemed economical. The problem is there is not a single input, if you want the sound from your TV or VCR to play through this unit, forget it. I guess its my fault for assuming this product would have such an obvious feature for a home theater. I gave the unit 3 stars because I did not actually try it, once I saw there were no inputs, it was on its way back. ...
Rating: Summary: Best Home Theater for $89.00 it's terrific for the price Review: I eagerly waited for this home theater system when I ordered it. A lot of the reviews said people had trouble with the passwords and the volume or it didn't work. However a lot of people also raved about the unit.I received the unit and it took me about two hours to set it up correctly.First thing it says at the beginning of the manual the password is 3308 and later it says it is 2001. I can't belive people didn't try both numbers. Also people complained that there was real audio level control, but that is covered in the manual under settings>dynamics. One person said you have to eject the dvd to get this menu,if you read the instructions all you have to do is hit the stop button on the remote twice, everybody who complained didn't read the manual,my good friend bought a Zenith surround sound system for $400.00 and belive me this unit sounds just as good as his.The bass will rumble your stomach and the seperation is fantastic this unit should be selling for 3x the price I Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!the only thing you need to know is that all the surround settings are turned off at the factory when you get it just follow the manual and you should be ok.
