Summary: Nice product until it has a problem
Review: I have this system it is only a Yr and a half old about a week after the warrenty went up it went up.It started to spit cd's out not play dvd's and sometimes not give us back the disk that we put in.Pioneer was nice enough to extend the warrenty.Well 4 months after having it fixed it started doing the same thing again,I called pioneer 2 times and each time they refused to do anything,Finally after speaking with a super visor and exlaning that for a product that is not even 2 yrs old and having to be fixed 2 times in 4 months this is not a good thing. She agreed with me and since the product is doing the same thing again they are fixing it again at their cost.I wanted to post this review so that you can make the right choice on your electronic purchase this was quite expensive when i bought it and feel that it should not need to be repaired 2 times in 4 months,so be careful.

Summary: Big sound, small source
Review: I just got this system a couple weeks ago, and already I'm very impressed. The picture and sound are very impressive. As already mentioned the remote is cumbersome, but I'm beginning to adapt. What I really like is that the display is seperate from the unit. I can place the display on top of the TV, and hide the unit away from the curious hands of my 16 month old. Also appreciated is the midnight function which is helpful when you want full sound when the little one is asleep. Plus my wife appreciates the compact size and attractive design.

One minor dislike is that the cord connecting the subwoofer to the unit is proprietary, and only a couple feet long, so it pretty much dictates your subwoofer placement. Other than that I completely recommend this system.

Summary: Just Do It
Review: I was looking for better sound from my DVDs. Discarded component systems because of the size. I had a Pioneer DV 414 and loved its image, superior to other DVD brands in my opinion. So it was natural that I developed some brand loyalty. The system that brought my attention to this category (Home Theater In A Box ) was a Sony DAV S300. Lovely, nice sound, but I wanted something with more fidelity to subtleties and a richer, punchier bass. After some research, I stuck on the HTZ 55DV. PROS - Full featured (DTS, DD 5.1); AM/FM Tuner; plays CDs, CDRs, CDRWs, VCDs and, of course, DVDs; you can control each speaker's level to fine-tune the system to your room; very clever design with the display/RC sensor separated from the DVD player and the power amp inside the subwoofer; image is even better than with my previous DV 414; sound is rich, crisp, very detailed (depends on the DVD of course); the subwoofer holds mortar explosions from Saving Private Ryan, the Harley Davidson sound from T2 - The Ultimate Edition DVD and the Tyranossaurus Rex roar from Jurassic Park with aplomb; small footprint from each system part; fast loading, menu navigation is also the fastest I've experienced as is chapter changes; has more features than you may ever need but you can leave them behind without any problem if you don't plan to use them; simple to install; has bass/treble adjustments that work with DD 5.1 and DTS; excellent value for money. CONS - The remote is awful, as was the DV 414's, but you can always get a "universal"; Pioneer has not learned to make its manuals look as easy to read as their products are easy to enjoy. I'm really in honeymoon with this system (more than a month). I even got used to its upside down remote. If you're looking for better sound, maybe better image (don't know which DVD you have), a nice clever design with a small footprint, faster loading and navigating through your DVDs, I can only say Just Do It. If it were more expensive, it would still be a good buy. It is much more than an "All-In-One". Take a look at any showroom, but be aware that you may be very disappointed if the sales person doesn't know how to use/tune it. Also have in mind that it was designed for small to medium sized rooms. If you room is big and you like it loud, look for a component system.

Summary: Perfect Home Theater for a small bedroom or dorm
Review: Pioneer calls their new HTZ-55DV a "life-oriented" component system, and that's a perfect description. It delivers DVD-based home theater thrills in a compact, affordable, easy-to-use package.

The small-footprint center console (a mere 11" wide) combines a DVD/CD player and digital AM/FM tuner. Optical and coaxial digital inputs are included, making it easy to connect a compatible DBS system for exciting Dolby Digital surround sound on satellite programs.

Setting up the HTZ-55DV is easy. The four satellite speakers and center channel speaker can be placed on stands or bookshelves, or hung on the wall. The subwoofer houses the Dolby Digital decoder and the system's 6-channel amplifier (30 watts each for center and satellites, 50 watts for the subwoofer). The center console connects to the subwoofer via a single digital cable, so hookup is virtually goof-proof. The video inputs and output include S-video.

The remote control is loaded with pre-programmed codes to handle most TVs, VCRs, cable boxes and DBS systems, and can also learn commands, too. A separate display unit reflects any change you make with the remote. For total stealth, place the center console in your A/V cabinet and just keep the display unit in view.

Summary: Amazing!
Review: Small, nice looking, cleverly designed, full featured, plays CDs, CDRs, CDRWs, AM/FM, DVDs with DTS and DD 5.1 sound, has a subwoofer that shakes my sofa, power enough to bore my neighbors, fidelity enough to make me think someone is entering the room while it's actually one of the DD 5.1 channels in action. The image is top, specially on the Cinema mode. Hard to beat. The DVD mechanism is fast enough to make everything mostly instantaneous (loading, navigating, chapter changes). I've searched a lot before buying (Sony DAV S300, 2 models from Panasonic, Onkio) and am sure I picked the best. It saved me lots of space (sold my stereo mini-system and my previous Pioneer DV 414), looks as any overpriced DVD (it's not progressive scan, though), sounds as goos as many component systems I could have added to my previous DVD/TV. Couldn't be happier. Join the club.

Summary: Wow!!!
Review: This is how a movie experience should be, and for such a small price. Easy to install, easy to operate, and the sound is magnificant. Try watching Gladiator on this thing, and you'll think you are in the middle of the fight... or sinking with the Titanic.

All this in a very sexy box. One thing to watch for, the speakers have 5mm threads, so you'll need to make sure to buy the correct size brackets if you want to hang the speakers.
