Summary: MX3950
Review: I actually own the MX3950 model. (It holds 5 discs). I have not experienced any glitches when watching my DVDs. As for the weird message someone says appears on your screen after watching a movie that's longer than an hour...never happened to me. I love the sound on the system...I truly feel like I'm at the movies...you can hear the sound outside! The only thing I don't like about the system is you can not have your own background...you have to keep the standard Phillips DVD screen when there are no discs loaded or you're listening to CD's. I had a Samsung player that would let you load your own photos as the background. But that's minor. I really do enjoy the system and would recommend it to others. If you have a SAMS card you can get my model for the same price Target is selling theirs.

Summary: Very Good System
Review: I had a little trouble setting up this sytem with my T.V., VCR, and DirecTv system. This is mostly my own fault. The actual set up of the Philips MX3550 was quite easy - everything is color coded. By that, for those who don't know, is that the five speakers included in this system all have a different color wire end. The back of the Philips unit has the matching color where these need to be plugged in. Anybody can set this up.

I really enjoy the sound this unit produces for the price. The only problem I have noticed is that every now and then - maybe 3 or 4 times during DVD playback, there are some strange blotchy marks on the screen. They go away quickly and everything seems to be fine. They last about a second. It has happened on EVERY DVD I have watched on this sytem. It really doesn't bother me too much though.

Overall... this is a GREAT system. I actually bought this when they were offering speaker stands for free... This was a great bargain. Many features which have been listed in other reviews and the product description.

Summary: Good entry level system
Review: I purchased the MX3700D after Christmas 2002 and have been very happy with this system for the price. It is my first DVD player and first experience with home theater. The surround system adds a whole new dimension to the viewing experience. I have a small to medium size room for my "home theater" and this model fills the room with sound very well. The MX3700D comes with a 100W powered sub and even with the volume at half power it rattles the whole house. I also recently purchased a Philips 27PS55S 27" TV with the component video inputs. I am happy with the combination. The remote is fairly easy and straightforward to use though I'm considering buying a single programmable remote to run everything. My only complaint is the same as a few other comments I've seen here and that is an occasional glitch on the screen during playback. I dont know if this is due to scratches/dirt on rented DVD's or if it is partly the player. Even brand new/clean DVD's seem to have an occasional glitch. These glitches last only a fraction of a second but are still visible. So far the problem is small enough to not be annoying. The player has a wealth of features and can play decode all the popular audio formats. I was missing the benefits of DTS untill just recently. (You have to select the proper audio track before you play the movie on DTS enabled DVD's)(If you are new to DVD's and are considering buying your first DVD player spend at least enough to get a "home theater in a box" type system. Buying a DVD player and just hooking it to your TV doesn't begin to let you enjoy the added features of DVD.)I'm hooked on home theater and if and when I move to a larger house I plan to dedicate a room to a larger home theater. I'm certain that some time in the future I would like to upgrade to a fancier component system but for now the Philips MX3700D fits the bill nicely. (also don't forget to get the free surround speaker stands from Philips. Their website has a form to mail in.)

Review: This is one of the best Home Theater systems I have ever seen. The sound is un beatable but the look could be better. Other wise this is a very nice system to have if you want so good quality sound! It really makes those action movies sound good.
