With the Apex HT-100, which combines a DVD/CD/MP3-CD player with a digital-synthesis FM-AM tuner, a five-speaker surround-sound system, and a subwoofer, music and movies take on added power and depth. Its five satellite speakers and subwoofer reproduce discrete multichannel surround mixes from Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS surround formats. The system packs 250 watts total power, the better to deliver the full heft of dinosaur feet and intergalactic engine rumble. If you're vocally inclined, the system runs karaoke CDs and DVDs, plugging up to two microphones into the DVD player's front panel. A choice of S-video or standard composite-video accommodates most televisions. The player reads DVD-Video, SVCD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-CD. 3D Virtual Surround Sound simulates surround sound through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on a TV) in the event that you aren't using your speaker system or want to listen to music with surround effects. The HT-100 includes a full-function remote control.
