Summary: Killer system for a boombox price
Review: To start, I am very familiar with high-end home theater systems, as I've spec'd and installed systems from modest-budget systems to $16K systems. I personally own a fairly nice home theater/music system. I bought the Koss based on other customer reviews for a friend who just recently moved into a studio apartment. For approx. $..., I am truly astounded by the decent quality of the audio and video. The vocals are clear and intelligible. It performs acceptably well for those Hollywood "WOW" action scenes. Stereo playback of CD's sound far better than anything else in its price range. Can it compare to systems costing thousands more? No. But it certainly holds it's own to systems costing hundreds more. Installation was simple. After breaking open the box, I had the whole system connected and placed in 10 minutes. The connections are all well-labeled and color coded. The satellite speakers even come with threads to accept placement using any off-the-shelf universal wall-mount, which is how I setup the surrounds. Remember, this whole audio system, including integrated amp and tuner, costs less than many DVD players alone! So what are my nitpicks? Well, system setup of the speakers is buried in the on-unit menu system, and setting the clock is a pain because I had to dig through the manual to find the directions, which ended up being slightly confusing. As with all systems, to make the most out of its capabilities, speaker/sub placement needs to be carefully done, especially with the limited capability of the "sub" to ensure that it doesn't sound too boomy. When compared to a class higher in quality, the sound is too accentuated in the midrange, while the bass could do with considerably more articulation and the highs could be more detailed. Though overall, especially considering the price, I can't imagine a better home-theater/music system value for $.... A very surprising 5 stars!!

Summary: Koss C220 = DVD player + Amp + Speakers + Tuner
Review: This is pretty much a souped up dvd player. Take your standard DVD player and add: amplifier, speakers, am/fm tuner. And that's what you get extra for your extra [money]. The sound is good for the price. The MP3 player is frustrating. Yes it does play your songs, but they navigation is non-existant, neither is shuffle or other interesting (and standard) ways to control the playing of the songs. The DVD player features are same as you can find in any cheap player. For me the two real advantages of this system are: price, and having many components integrated under the same remote control.

Summary: Be warned!
Review: This system has no digital inputs, so if you want to use it with an Xbox or a PlayStation 2 for Dolby/DTS playback, you're out of luck.

Consider yourself warned.

Summary: OK for the Price
Review: Sorry, but I think the sound quality is only mediocre at best. I am not an audophile, but I do have certain expectations. These speakers are basically just computer monitor speakers. As a result, they are most certainly tinny. Don't expect a full, rich sound. For videos, this is OK because voices fall into the midrange sound category, but, oh man, can it sound harsh during an action sequence. And if you want to use this as a receiver, the sound quality of musical reproduction may dissapoint. I bought this as a ... vehicle to break into DVD \ Surround Sound. ... I think I got about as much as could be expected and I am not disappointed - but I got what I payed for. Don't expect anything more. Just by way of comparison, Radio Shack sells small monitor speaker brackets to hold the speakers up on the wall for $ 30 each (yeah, *each*). Do the math; the little bracket costs more than the speakers themselves. This system is fine for the college kid, or the basement "secondary" set-up, or the family who just wants the dvd \ sense surround without the high quality and accompanying price. I also agree with another reviewer that the fan is surprisingly loud and if you listen closely to the speakers, you can actually hear a noise impulse that seems to be consistent with the fan rotation - suggesting really poor isolation in the electronics. My two sense worth...

Summary: Lot of Theater, Little Price
Review: This is a nice piece of equipment. It sets up quickly, doesn't cost a lot and is a nice beginner set for someone just getting into home theater. The speakers are powerful and pick up the surround sound beautifully.

Summary: Receiver Problems
Review: I have had the same problem three different times.Sent the unit back to Koss,it was returned and was fine. After 3 months, same problem arose. After about 3 months, same problem.I will have to send back to Koss again for repair/replacement.
The problem is:Soundfields do not switch when the "mode" button is pushed on the remote. It stays on "stereo" and cannot be changed. This only happens when in "tuner"[radio] mode.
Other than that,I like the system for the price, and Koss's service is excellent.

Summary: nice and impressive but noisy
Review: Koss C220 DVD/Receiver Home Theater system is compact while quite feature-rich. It was rather easy to set up. The mass of wires needed for all the connections, however, is somewhat overwhelming and hardly pleasing in esthetic terms. The remote is functional but its buttons and icons are clearly too small. The image quality (even on an old TV set I hooked the system to) was pretty good. Audio was less impressive, especially for music. The reason: noisy cooling fan, which compromises all the sophisticated sound features, unless you turn up all these 300 watts (not my style). Since there are no quiet fans, next time I will be looking for a unit that has none, even if that means a bigger box.

1. Make sure there is an audio CD in the player's tray.
2. Using the remote control, key in the following:

Summary: Great value!
Review: I just received the Koss C220 home theater system. We ordered it for our college aged son's apt. We opened it when it arrived to be sure it worked okay before forwarding it to him in another state.
I had promised my wife we would return the unit if it seemed "cheap". I read a review and switched from a more expensive unit I was sold on and tried the Koss.
I have the reference M&K THX system and was afraid she was expecting the same kind of quality. We were both amazed at the quality and value of the unit. It may blow up tomorrow but initial response to the product is amazement. Don't let the low price scare you off
