Summary: Nice Little Budget System? HA!
Review: I've read all of the reviews, and while I can see both sides of the coin, be aware that sure "it's a nice little budget system" IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO REPLACE IT NEXT YEAR. If you want to spend $220 PER year on a home entertainment system, that's fine. After purchasing the system and being told by customer service after 10 months "send us $200 and we'll send you a new unit" rather than offering any type of repair - I'll shop elsewhere for my system. In this instance, you get what you pay for.

Summary: Excellent Machine
Review: I bought this machine last year for X-Mas and it has worked great ever since. I got the full year warranty and purchased an extended warranty since it was a major purchase. I was even allowed Preventative Maintenance. Anyhow, I live in apartment and this unit is more than powerful enough. Haven't had any problem playing CD's, CD-R/RW's and DVD's. I can also watch VCD's. Never regretted the investment

Review: This thing never worked from the get-go. We thought we just had a bunch of dirty discs. Since we're not avid movie-viewers, by the time we figured out it was the dvd player, warranty was out. Looking at other reviews, seems like this thing either works or it is a dud. It's a crap shoot, our advise, don't waste your money like we did, find something with better quality control. Just sign us, "ripped-off"

Summary: Piece of JUNK
Review: I bought this system last year. I had kept it in the box for about 2 months because I was planning a move and did not want to hook it up. I hooked it up in Nov or Dec of last year and played two DVDs. Had problems with both on audio and had to adjust language to either 2.0 or 5.1 before it would play right. Most recently I joined a DVD club, bought many DVDs and have problems playing any DVD that does not have language choice of 5.1 or 2.0. Called manufacturer and they said too bad, it's out of warranty. What a waste of money. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Summary: Pretty Good System
Review: This is a pretty good system for a meduim sized room or apartment. The sub isn't all that loud, but if you get another sub to go with it it sounds very good. I have had this system for about a year and it has satified me a great deal. I recommend people to buy this item because its afforadable, reliable, and has three things in one! (radio, dvd, and cd players) You can't beat a better deal for the quality you get from this item.

Summary: Inadequate product with inadequate warranty
Review: Product purchased through Amazon died after nine months; alas, warranty is only 90 days. No mute button. If you switch from DVD to TV, you must restart DVD from beginning. Speaker are a joke; fortunately, receiver has sufficent power to support my existing rectilinears. Biamped sub-woofer is always on, a power consumer, even when unit is off. Had to purchase a separate RF-generator for $30 to access my TV.

Summary: Great Piece, Great Price
Review: I bought this piece as "Used & New" for $$...I was expecting a system with some missing or damaged components. But I felt it was a good deal even if the Player was working. So went ahead and bought this system.
This was shipped earlier than expected. When I opened the box to my surprise the box was packet perfectly with all the items brand new. Opened it and assembled it within 10 minutes. It was very easy as wires and sockets were color coded.
The sound is great, just like watching a movie in a theatre. The inbuilt onscreen MP3 player resembles Winamp and is great.Totally the system can match any high end Hometheatre system. Don't think twice looking at the cheap price. Its a excellent piece and you'll really be happy after buying it.

Summary: Affordable Sound for the Home
Review: I cant complain. I was sort of worried that there wouldnt be enough intputs (because i found it hard to find schematics and pictures of the back of this unit), but there are two sets of inputs and one set of outputs. So ive got my Playstation 2 and TV. All the sound from my TV gets redirected through the Speakers. The sound quality is very good, ive listened to some of my CD's on it, testing it with classical to Heavy metal. All of which sound marvelous. Ive even had complaints from next door that they can hear it too well. You cant beat this unit for it's price! Its got a DVD player and an MP3 Player built in!

Summary: Decent for the money
Review: Picked this up because I needed something for my 15 x 15 foot family room that had a small footprint and low cost. Also, I wanted my kids to be able to play DVD's with-out using my high end system. This is a slim player, and the speakers are small as well. Koss has a good rep, but this unit (after checking the fine print in the manual) is actually made by Oritron. The install was easy enough, everything is color-coded. The wires to the speakers could be longer. If you aren't going to set-up the front speakers and center channel very close to the DVD unit, you'll be paying a trip to the store for speaker wire!.
The sub-woofer could also use a longer wire. The on-screen instructions and calibrations are user-friendly; you can adjust items like distance from speakers and loudness of each speaker. Also- if you have an old t.v. (with-out inputs), you'll have to buy an RF modulator. So even though, the initial price for the Koss DVD player is low, you can have an additional outlay [money] for extra wires and the modulator. Performance-wise, the system is not bad. Althought the unit only puts out 200 watts (over the 5.1), the sound is clear and strong enough. You're not going to be able to fill an auditorium with the sound, but it's adequate for a decent sized room.
The sub-woofer pumps out plenty of bass as well. There are the usual settings for stadium, hall, disco, live, etc that you can play around with as well.
We put the Lord of The Rings DVD on and it sounded great.
You might want to adjust the surround settings to fit your soundfield. The fan is loud, but if you're not sitting on top of the unit, it's not noticeable.
The remote control has small buttons, but not microscopic. The system takes a while to load a dvd. Also, if you want to load or remove a disk, the DVD defaults to on and you'll lose the picture on your tv screen. This aspect is absolutely maddening! All in all, for the price, you get an integrated system that ties everything together nicely since it also has two aux inputs (so you can pump your tv and vcr through it as well).
As a secondary unit (that you could let your kids use as a knock-around system), it's fine. Just don't expect the quality of an [expensive] system.

Summary: Hopeful but Disappointed
Review: The low price of this product was attractive, and perhaps a red flag, but I have respect for the Koss name, and took a chance. My main complaint is with the noisy cooling fan. (Other reviews had mentioned this flaw as well). Because of the shelving available to me, I need a slim-line unit, and a fan may be the only option for these. I'm guessing the "fat" units use heat-sinks instead of fans. I don't really know, but at normal listening levels I found the fan noise distracting. Additionally, after playing around for about two hours, I still couldn't seem to get the decibel levels to adjust for surround. I don't know if it's the system or me, but either way it ends up unsatisfactory. I will spend a little more money for something I like better. The product seems to be made solidly, and the design is attractive, but the downsides makes it unacceptable, and I have returned the system.
