Summary: Brutal and ugly, but vital.
Review: Scarface is one of the classic gangster films of all time. My only complaint is it's length. It could have been easily cut down, but that aside, it's a work fans of the genre need to see.Though I have seen movies that are much more violent, Scarface strikes a very deep nerve. The violence on the screen seems much more worse than it really is, and it isn't just the violence that will make you uneasy. The film had to be this way. If you come out of watching it with a "I'd really like to be like that guy!" attitude, then you really didn't watch very closely.

Summary: Miami - The 80's
Review: If anyone had ever asked me what the most unpleasant film I had ever viewed was, my answer would easily have been Scarface. I have never EVER been so completely repulsed by violence. In the 80's, many of the cheap, cookie-cutter action films would glamorize violence as a stimulating rush. Scarface shows us crime as it was, is, and shall remain; hideous displays of cruelty towards humanity. DePalma Brilliantly captivates the dirty, vulgar industry of drug dealing without ever lightening the punch. There is no "good-guy" in this. Instead of having you root for a character, DePalma makes certain that you pray for the violence to end, that you hope for the screen to at least back off of the in-your-face presence of the lifestyle that is organized crime. It doesn't. It only gets more and more filthy. The characters are shot, cut up, beaten, and ravaged without any bit of it censored. The gritty film makes it seem so much more realistic. DePalma has created a rare acheivement, he has shown us the world through the eyes of cold-blooded throat cutters. Everyone gets what they deserve, and knowone is left standing without the world crumbling around them. This film has all of the political commentary, all of the violence, and all of the dialogue to show you how horrible crime is. This film is truly a masterpiece and truly a noble effort. If anyone walks away from this movie saying that all it did was glorify the lifestyle of drugs, they really didn't pay attention.

Summary: One of the Most Offensive Movies in History
Review: When I saw this one, I was "blown away!" I could not believe that an actor of Pacino's level would lower himself to such a blatantly racist and sexist bit of filmmaking. Maybe, it was the big paycheck! Or was it the lack of dialogue that the actor had to learn? I would love for someone to let me know how many times the actor uttered a certain four-letter expletive that begins with an "F" in this film. I lost count! The fact that the major characters were supposedly Puerto Rican makes the casting of Pacino, Loggia, Mastrantonio, and Bauer a major faux pas! I could never understand why this one did not receive an "X" for its violent content and misogynistic depiction of women. Ultra violent in its final frames, the film is unbearably BAD. And that ain't GOOD!

Summary: "Scarface" an overlong mess
Review: Brian De Palma's Scarface looked like the new Godfather when it came out. It had the guns, gangsters, and underground business themes that The Godfather dealt with. But it really turns out to be an overlong, somewhat boring, mess. We get to know none of the charachters, they've all split or gotten killed after just ten minutes of screentime, yet they are a big deal to the story. We can feel no sympathy whatsoever for Pacino like we are supposed to, and as for the music? It makes you feel just like you are watching a dragging episode of Miami Vice, with the theme song playing throughout the show. It could have been so much more, but it's just an overlong mess.

Summary: Pacino's Face
Review: Looked at purely as an improvement on the lousy VHS version in circulation 'til now, this DVD at last allows us to see Brian De Palma's Scarface as he perhaps intended us to see it. And what a glorious mess it is! Al Pacino is mesmerizing as Tony Montana, the petty Cuban thug who claws his way to the top of an ignominious dunghill, only to be shot off by another thug, this time from Colombia. I suppose if you're sick of the glorification of Italian mafioso in The Sopranos, you'll be heartened by [Italian] De Palma's switch to Hispanic thugs. But this is Pacino's movie, and he takes it by the throat from his first scene. De Palma sets up several of his trademark sequences, using crane shots and long takes to best effect (Carlito's Way is a distant second to Scarface), which is a fancy way of saying he telegraphs the violent scenes rather blatantly. You can see it all coming a mile away. A Grand Guignol bloodbath ends the film, in the glorious tradition of Sam Peckinpah. A nasty, brutish, but not short film - Scarface will probably find a wider, younger audience in this immaculate digital (widescreen) transfer. (At last, we can see what happened to the guys with the chainsaw in the bathtub!)

Summary: The World Is Yours ...
Review: This is my favorite movie of all time. Al Pacino IS Tony Montana/Scarface! So there's the "chainsaw" scene. And then there's the "say hello to my little friend" scene. (And I kind of liked the scene when he goes to see his mother and she practically disown's him, but he does not disrespect her in any way. What a guy!) But my favorite scene is when Tony looks up in the sky and sees the air ship that reads, "The World Is Yours". That scene gets me every time. I mean, Al just does a superb job of letting you know what he's thinking. Just all in all a really great movie.

Summary: One of the Best movies of 80's
Review: Where to begin... Well the first time I saw this picture I was in the 8th grade and was completely mesmerized by it. I mean the performance by Mr. Pacino is by far the best in his illustrious career. From the first words that Tony utters in opening scene "Antonio Montana" to the incredible ending, the performance leaves one wanting more. The movie is long but does not feel like its length. I agree with the some of the comments made earlier about the DVD,- in terms of poor sound quality. But I think that is small price to pay for all the extra benefits of the package. The behind the scenes documentary is must see for all fans as well as the deleted scenes. The trailers to this movie were awful. It's no wonder the movie did not do well at the box office in its initial release.(plus the terrible reviews and controversey did not help) I think that for any guy growing up in the late 80's early 90's, this was mandatory viewing. Highly recommended for all.

Summary: Horrifying, unpleasant, tragic, and brilliant.
Review: One would wonder that I would have made a mistake in giving this film five stars, given the fact my one-line review up there seems to make the film a negative one. It is a brutal, graphic (at times), shocking and disturbing movie. Reminiscent of Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs". But then again, life in this dirty business maybe is pretty much like that. If one watches the news one sees those sort of things happen pretty regularly. It is true to say we as spectators turn to films as a diversion from the senseless cruelty and violence that revolve round us in the world nowadays. Yet this is what the film is meant to be. A hard-hitting gut-punch of a film. How about that infamous "chainsaw scene"? Those who saw this movie know what I am talking about. That scene is a bloodfest, alright...but there are others that are equally as unpleasant that don't necessarily resort to bloodletting to make us cringe. It's a great spectacle that shows all...certainly a film not to be missed.

Review: I loved this movie! Say hello to my little freind. I think Al Pacino is the best acter to ever walk on 10 toes. He does the best acting I've ever seen in this movie. It is a must have.
