Summary: The Negotiator [The rules of engagment]
Review: In this action-packed thriller Samuel L. Jackson is framed for the murder of his friend. He being a negotiator himself thought this could never happen. He lost his badge, but didn't loose the trust of his wife. He finds out that his friend was getting close to a secret that only a few cops knew. After giving up his badge, he takes four people hostage. (This is where it gets good). To the shagrin of his fellow officers, he doesn't give up. He requests that his name be cleared and charges dropped. The main man he holds is the man in charge of this 'secret'. No I won't ruin the ending for you. (Some slow parts and the more than frequent use of the 'F' word were the only downs) Everything else was fast, smart and to the point!

If you have surround sound, a good DVD player and lots of popcorn, go ahead screw the night away watching, The Negotiator.

Summary: Good acting and good story!
Review: If you are looking for a movie where the story doesn't depends on the action, you have found it! The story of "The Negotiator" is very good (but sometimes a bit complicated). It's also pretty realistic though it has a few unbelievable things.

The performances of Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey are also very good. The only dissapointing thing was the action. Because the gunfights were the same as we have seen in other action movies and doesn't add some new things wich normaly makes action movies so interesting.

That makes this movie not very good as an action movie, but just a good thriller.

Summary: Rusty and not Spacys best
Review: I think this movie is ok but there are a lot of thing in this movie that I would change over again. This movie is flat and would have passed it up.

Summary: Well Acted but....
Review: Samuel Jackson plays a cop wrongly accused of killing his partner. To prevent himself from going to jail he takes hostages in a police station and amid a host of gunfire proves his innocence. Okay, does anyone really believe that his unique method of preventing his incarceration would not send him to jail anyway for kidnapping, reckless endangerment, etc. If you do, I have a bridge I'd like to sell.

Summary: Okay thriller, good acting
Review: Tightly filmed (taking place mostly at night), "The Negotiator" has a look -- and some scenes -- that, in my opinion, seemed to resemble "Die Hard".

Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey give very good, believeable performances. The story gets a little silly with it's "bad cops/extortion plot" but it moves along pretty well.

Summary: A Smart and Satisfying Action Movie
Review: "The Negotiator" is a smart and satisfying action movie that has standout performances from a great cast. Unlike most action movies "The Negotiator" uses wit, not explosions to entertain. This film should have been a huge hit but it wasn't, but if you get a chance watch a movie watch "The Negotiator" you will not be dissapointed.

Summary: Great cast makes this a great action movie!
Review: I have to admit, if this film did not have the acting genius of both Kevin Spacey and Samuel L. Jackson, I'd write it off as another Bruce Willis wannabe. However, both of these heavy-hitters display such intelligence and depth to their respective roles, that I ended up watching it over and over again. Jackson is great as the hostage negotiator who is forced to take hostages himself when he is framed for murder. When Spacey is brought into the fold to talk Jackson down, it becomes a great war of words and wit. Both men have their own agendas, and as actors they have incredible chemistry. The action sequences are good too, and don't weigh down the plot of the story. The supporting cast is great too, and help to add humor to the tense situation at hand. All in all, a great edge-of-your-seat action thriller, with a very good ending. I have watched this over and over, and I still am not bored with it.
