Summary: Authentic. Humble. Amazing
Review: It's 3:03 a.m. and I have just spent 1 hour writing a fabulous review of this credible, creative, and cautionary movie. Some may not see all that's presented here. That's okay. Just remember, it's been around since 1992, and people keep comming back to it. It truly is Amazing in its authenticity.
Previously, I wrote a small book including nuances, as a review of Thunderheart. When it came time to submit, I pushed the wrong button and lost it all. That's why this is so short. The Spirits often use fun to teach a lesson. Enter, Humility.
If you're interested in growth, or just want to broaden your perspective on Native American life, watch this. Better yet, buy it. I did.

Summary: Thunderheart has staying power
Review: It's been ten years since Thunderheart appeared in theaters, and it is still holds up as a powerful, insightful, and eloquent film.I have traveled through the Pine Ridge Lakota reservation and Badlands National Park in western South Dakota, around which Thunderheart was filmed. I've made pilgrimages there both around the time this film appeared and as recently as last week (I live in Texas). Anytime I am close to that area, Thunderheart is the first film that comes to mind, just as Dances With Wolves inevitably comes to mind when I'm in the Black Hills, just to the west. Thunderheart successfully combines the Lakota's modern 'Feds on the Rez' dilemmas with a wry, witty, ironic, laconic sense of Native American wisdom and mysticism. The film loosely and hauntingly combines the Leonard Peletier story (see "Incident at Ogalala" and/or read Peter Matthiessen's book "In the Spirit of Crazy Horse") with implications and memories of the Wounded Knee tragedy and the plight of a dispossessed and plundered people. Kilmer and Sheppard get top billing, and both are good, but really, Graham Greene steals the show. His sassy, kick the dirt, Lakota Charlie Chan detective is priceless. Thunderheart conveys the sinister reality of the present along with a triumpant confrontation for which those of us who care about the plight of the Plains Indians certainly hope. "This land is not for sale. This land is not for sale!" Buy this movie, and show your support and your sympathy for the people who once lorded over the plains.

Summary: They should have named it "Days of Thunderheart"
Review: Just kidding. This is such a good movie. It would be a shame if more people didn't get to see it. All the characters are so interesting to watch. I saw it on cable when it came out and I had to own a copy when I saw it in the store. No gimmicks, just a good story and good actors.

Summary: Good suspense, action, and a nice twist to the plot!
Review: Kilmer is an FBI agent sent to investigate problems on a reservation. The local yokle tries to convince him its really nothing, but when the girl that Val be-friends gets killed, he's determined to find out the truth, which is a bit of a twist. Could it be a Government cover up???

Summary: AN ATTENTION GETTING FILM FROM THE BEGINNING TO END!
Review: Michael Apted has done it again! I believe this director to be one of the most tallented in film today! This film is a fine example, and when you add an excellent cast-It's a winner! If you haven't had a "look" at "INCIDENT A OGLALA-THE LEONARD PELTIER STORY" do it. Graham Greene is an absolute jewel, a fine actor that really shines in this film. Get it! See it!

Review: My initial reason for watching this movie was because John Trudell is in it and I am a big fan of his albums as well as an admirer of his. When I finished watching it, I had a whole new respect for Native Americans as a people, and the struggles they've endured and fought through for decades. It was sometimes painful to watch, but I think it is a very important film that tells a story that needs to be told.

Review: One of my all time favorite movies is this often overlooked classic. Ted Thin Elk, a genuine Souix chief, is one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen on film. His authentic spirit radiates from every frame he is in. Graham Greene is always brilliant. Val Kilmer makes his role seem like second nature. He is passionate and unspoiled. There are a few moments that do seem a little cliche, though I only thought that after I had seen the movie a few times. The photography is mesmerizing,
and the script has many moments of sheer poetry. I love a story that can be read in layers, and that deals with life beyond the visible surface. Native American spirituality is woven throughout fabric of this story, but it never bogs itself down in esoteric mumbo-jumbo. It packs a punch, and the ending always makes me cry.
