Rating: Summary: MOVIE OF THE 80'S Review: THIS MOVIE WAS ABSOLUTELY GREAT!,, ITS A SHAME THAT ITS HARD TO PURCHASE.. I CAN'T BELIEVE THE PRICE OF A USED MOVIE.. SOUND WAS GREAT,, THE MOVIE PLOT WAS UNBEATABLE.. WILLIAM DAFOE WILL ALWAYS BE RICK MASTERS TO ME.. AS WILLIAM PETERSON WILL ALWAYS BE THAT SECRET SERVICE AGENT .. NO MATTER WHAT MOVIE I SEE THEM IN. JOHN TURTURRO ALSO STOLE SCENES. THAT FIGHT WITH THE BLACK PRISON GANG WAS REALLY COOL..... THE WAY RICK MASTER'S ASKED FOR HIS MONEY BACK.. AND THE PRISON GANG SHOT CALLER TOLD HIM TO JUST PRINT SOME MORE OF THAT FUNNY MONEY.. GREAT MOVIE
Rating: Summary: I WANT MY DVD!!! Review: I love this movie! William Petersen is so cocky you can smell it on him. Willem Defoe is one the coolest bad guys ever. This movie is slick as hell (in that 80's kinda way), but it's so well done you don't mind it. It's even got a kick-... car chase in it! I'll wait til the end of time to have this on DVD. So come on MCA and Vestron, get cracking! Also, look for Jane Leeves in a non-speaking role as one of the dancers in the club and later, the loverly pressie for Ric Masters' girlfriend.
Rating: Summary: Too Slick for Its own Good Review: This is one of the best movies of the 80's, and one of the best crime thrillers ever made, with a car chase that is better than the French Connection's. William Peterson would have been a star 15 years earlier than his status now on CSI if anyone had really taken a look at this movie, reviewers included. Roger Ebert gave it his top rating when it was released, but many other reviewers doomed it, along with the un-Hollywood ending (Incredibly for its time, this is one of the last 80's movies to NOT listen to audience focus groups. The ending was supposed to be much different Hopefully the DVD, when and if it is ever made by the studio, will show this ending that was filmed as an alternative. Thank God they kept it as it was). Willem Dafoe's first really great performance even before "Platoon" and better than his "Streets of Fire" acting. Dean Stockwell is great as a smarmy lawyer. John Turturro is great as a Dafoe underling. Even the soundtrack is phenomenal, and fits the shots of a smoggy, smoky LA. I have never heard John Pankow (another co-star) or William Peterson, or even Dafoe comment on what they thought of this movie, but it was at least 20 years ahead of its time. If it was made today, with the public still Tarantino-ized from the mid-90's, it would make 100 million and be nominated for an Oscar. This movie made most of its money via rentals and word of mouth, as it did not do well in the movies in 84-85 because of the "strange" shocking ending. Someone smart will tell the studio to issue this DVD and market it now while many of its stars are still going strong-especially Peterson.
Rating: Summary: I need the DVD!!! Review: I saw this film at the show in 1985. It was one of the best crime thrillers I had seen. It still is....Why isn't it on DVD??? William Petersen and Willem Dafoe are top-notch!! And the movie has a believable, non-Hollywood ending. DVD! DVD! DVD!
Rating: Summary: Nothing Short of Hardcore. Review: This is one of those films that makes you upset you just spent 20 bucks at the theater the other day. They just dont make movies like this anymore. It's straight up GRITTY! Great acting, and Freidkin tears it up. This film has one of the most out of control car chase sequences in movie history. vote for this ...., we need this in our DVD collections!
Rating: Summary: Five stars for the movie Review: There is no DVD of this movie, so I can't really rate a non-existent product. The movie, however deserves 5 stars. A first rate movie in all aspects. It also features one of the greatest car chases ever committed to film. If you thought the car chase in "French Connection" was great, this one will blow you away. I still can't figure out how Freidkin pulled this one off. He turns the "good cop, bad cop" formula on it's head. Great acting by William J. Petersen. He should have been a star based on this performance and the one in "Manhunter". If you're looking for an action packed movie with a brain, then this is for you. I still don't know of any other movie that had the guts to end the story the way this one did. Definitely deserves a first class treatment on DVD. I'm sure that someone is holding the rights to this movie hostage, but it should be given the chance to be seen by a wider audience.
Rating: Summary: Please release this title on DVD Review: This is definitely an overlooked movie highlight in Friedkin's, Peterson's and Dafoe's respective careers. It may not have been a mass audience smash at the time of its release, but definitely warrants a deluxe DVD treatment or even a mid-line reissue. Enough time has passed where this movie definitely still ranks up there with other Friedkin "classics" such as The French Connection and The Exorcist. In addition, this was seemingly a launching pad movie for William Peterson who now stars on CSI. Eagerly await the long overdue DVD release of this title. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Crime drama, great cast and awesome LA scenery Review: One of the characters is a counterfeiter and one is a cop. The cop's (unwilling)girlfriend is in a witness-protection program. She wants to leave him... but he'll reveal her true identity to those who are looking for her if she does. Cop wants to catch criminal... at any cost! Many "seedy" ethical situations for its time.
Rating: Summary: Well done Review: Acting was superb by Peterson and Tutoro. This film was greatly underated in my opinion. It deserved more attention for its outstanding storyline and impressive performances by both Turoro, Peterson and DaFoe.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST Review: BREATHE TAKING, BUT WHY HASN'T A DVD OF THIS MOVIE BEEN RELEASED?
