Summary: WHAT ARE YOU PREPARED TO DO PARAMOUNT?
Review: Boy this is an excellent film, action packed, great story and the acting is amazing, no wonder Sir Sean Connery won the Oscar for this movie, about time they honoured this great actor, and the rest well, Robert De Niro is great, he really got the Capone people wanted, or at least that I wanted, he is funny, aggressive, elegant, cocky, a show off, almost a cartoon, very violent cartoon when eating in a round table, just as we would be if we were in his position, and the scene where he bashes one of his henchmen over the head with a baseball bat, what a great scene, not just that part, but when he talks to the gang as well. (...), and if you haven't seen it, shame on you, this is a true classic, a film you can watch many times and not get tired of it. Everything is amazing, the customs are very good, the soundtrack is excellent, I had never heard a more brilliant soundtrack, classic and very like gangster like, it takes you back to Chicago 1930, plus when Sean Connery and Charles Martin Smith die, the music really gets you, kind of like Schindler's List Theme (hear the sample) the Death music theme in the movie is very nice(please hear sample too). And the movie has very memorable lines and speeches specially from Sean Connery and De Niro, "What are you prepared to do", "He is as dead as Julius Caesar", "He pulls a knife, you pull a gun, he sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue" All from Connery, and from De Niro, "You can get more with a kind word an a gun that you can with just a kind word", "Enthusiasms......what are mine, Baseball", "There is violence in Chicago but not by me or anybody in my organisation, and I'll tell you why, because is not good business.", etc. Also, Kevin Costner shows that he is not a bad actor, just has a bad screening selection when it comes to pick films, because he is very good in the film, a true good guy, and Andy Garcia with Charles Martin Smith make a great supporting cast, and although the star is supposed to be Costner, Connery and De Niro stole the show, Ness is shadowed by Al Capone and Jimmy Malone. Brian the Palma did a great job, he was prepared like Connery says, unlike Paramount, which again made a lousy DVD, the only special feature is the trailer, what was that about, at least Braveheart had a commentary an a little documentary, but nothing, no talent files, no commentary, no deleted scenes, documentary about Capone and his booze empire of gangsters, nothing. Again the film is worth the 5 stars, but not the DVD, the picture and sound fine, but the rest, just a "kind word".

Summary: Brain De Palma's Best!
Review: This is, IMO, De Palma's best movie. The director losses the Hichcock obsession that he had when filming his other movies and directs this one like only he could.This classic confrontation between good and evil stars Kevin Costner as federal agent Eliot Ness, Robert DeNiro as gangland kingpin Al Capone and Sean Connery as Malone, the cop who teaches Ness how to beat the mob: shoot fast and shoot first. The movie also includes a young Andy Garcia as a sharp shooter to the Untouchables. This DVD is a must for any fan of mob movies, cop movies, and good movies period. The movie has a great transhpher making this DVD a must have.

Summary: DeNiro Great, Costner Terrible!
Review: Kevin Costner continues to mumble his way through another film. A superlative supporting cast and great cinematography. DeNiro as great as ever. Costner is Mr. No Emotion. I watched most of the episodes of this on TV and was always glued to the set. Kevin Costner brings new meaning to the word listless. Robert Stack was quintessential as Ness. Never knew if he was married, single, divorced, widowed or even celibate. But Stack was the man in charge and you knew it. Costner seems to rule by committee. Dangerous to do this. Yes he is incorruptible, yes he is plodding in his methodology. He is actually just plain plodding in everything. Had a local arts editor once who loved Costner, made her toes squirm. She didn't understand the first thing about theater but loved him anyway. The movie would be great if Costner had been replaced as Ness. With him in it is just ho hum.

Review: This is a great movie! Kevin Costner is a great actor and this movie shows it. This movie has a great story line. Robert DeNiro plays the role of Al Capone unlike any other. There are alot of good actors and this movies brings them together( Sean Connery, Robert DeNiro, and Kevin Costner ). This movie deserves 5 stars! This movie has alot of action! Go see it soon!

Summary: Kevin Costner -vs- Robert DeNiro
Review: Who better to play Eliot Ness & Al Capone, this is an excellent film that really grips the viewer, Sean Connery lends a great supporting role as Costner's mentor, who shows him the way to bring Capone down, but Capone is not going down so easy, the confrontation between Costner's Ness & DeNiro's Capone after Capone has his friend killed is a sight to see, whether it ever happened then is anybody's guess, but this film really gives the viewer insight to Ness' obsession with Capone,& his pursuit as well, DeNiro is over the top as Capone, but very convincing, Andy Garcia is a rookie marksman whose skill comes into play in the ever-famous train station sequence, it would take me forever to explain this scene, but it is one of the true edge-of-your-seat scenes ever filmed in slow motion, Capone's assassin Nitty is played wonderfully by Billy Drago, an actor that is apparently still struggling & has not aged it seems, his Nitty is so evil that you can't wait for him to get his, & get his he does!!, in a rather funny moment that is quite memorable, great set designs & costumes & it really has a 1930's feel to it, Brian DePalma has recreated prohibition Chicago very nicely here, If you like Costner,DeNiro, & Connery, this is a must see!!!

Review: I didn't like this movie. I think that it was a good idea for a movie but it was very "hollywood". Big names, effects but no sustance in the story.

Review: It's no wonder that Sean Connery won an Oscar for his role as Chicago cop "Malone" in this very enjoyable flick. Of course, any movie that has Connery, Robert De Niro (as the grimly realistic Al Capone), and Kevin Costner (finally giving an excellent performance), should be instantly one to watch. Set back in the days of the Prohibition, the movie chronicles (unhistorically) Eliot Ness and his crusade to bring down the most efficient and powerful crime organization ever to touch America. The acting is, as said, top-notch, with terrifc performances by Andy Garcia and Charles Martin Smith as Untouchables. But it was Connery's character that really carried the movie and kept us in our seats the entire movie, sprouting wisdom like Charlie Chan from the memorable "He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. If he sends one of your men to the hoshpital, you send one of his to the morgue! That's the Chicago way!" to "He's as dead as Julius Caesar... Would you rather it be you?" My single complaint: the backdrop of Chicago was not to elegantly done. In fact, it's painfully obvious that all the cars are exactly the same, and the city streets too clean (True, New York was also too clean in The Godfather, but that drew attention to Marlon Brando being gunned down. In Untouchables, it just draws attention to twenty gleaming Henry Fords).

Summary: GREAT MOVIE!!!
Review: It's prohibition, and Chicago's bootlegging business is running rampant--a slap to the justice department. In Chicago, the cops are dirty, state government is corrupt, the citizens deitify Capone, and the gangsters rule the town. Elliot Ness(Costner), a do-gooder looking to catapult his career, heads a random group of characters (the untouchables) against EVERYONE. He enlists an old irish beat cop(Connery) to teach him how to bring Capone down. In this relationship b/w Connery and Costner is the heart of the film. The acting is first notch. Yes, even Kevin Costner is good in this movie. But Connery and Deniro really steal the show. The duo delivers quotable lines throughout the movie. Sean Connery: "He pulls out a knife, you pull out a gun. He puts one of yours in the hospital, you put one of his in the morgue. That's the Chee-Ka-Go way." Absolutely brilliant. DePalma is brilliant. The grandiose style of music and imagery bring you back to the time of Prohibition. There are some scenes where you don't even watch the actors b/c you're too busy marveling at the set. The DVD. Well, given that it's not "Collector's Edition", "Criterion Collection" and so on...you can guess on the content. Almost NONE. It's a standard bare bones DVD. I was pleasantly surprised by the picture and sound quality though. The sound and visuals compare to modern day movies. This Movie is so watchable. I can picture myself watching this movie once every year or so...and enjoying it every time.

Summary: Classic Capone !
Review: Great movie. Great acting and great Director. You should know the story. It is about Al Capone (De Niro)and the treasury officer (Costner) who hunts him down. Watching it today is still as exciting as I first saw it in 1987. Too bad the DVD is a bit dark so I have to raise the brightness level 2 notch and the sound quality is good but again I have to raise the volume level a few steps from my usual setting. But overall a great DVD that should be in every movie lover's collection.

Summary: Great film despite Kevin Costner
Review: When I saw "The Untouchables" in the theatre in 1987, I remember saying to my companion that "the guy who played Elliot Ness just didn't stand up to the rest of that powerful cast." Nothing much has happened to change my mind about Kevin Costner's wooden portrayal of the Prohibition-era G-man. However, the rest of the cast is outstanding - Robert deNiro's Al Capone is just as diabolical as you might expect, and Andy Garcia's George Stone is as flawless a performance as I've seen. Sean Connery deserved every kudo he got for his role in this film - without his presence, it would have been rather lukewarm in a lot of places. This one is not to be missed by Connery fans.
