Summary: A Brilliant Michael Mann Film
Review: Any fan of Michael Mann's films knows he is a master storyteller
who combines great cinematic visuals with strong characters. Without ever have seen one of his films, you can look at 30 seconds of a scene and see a signature style. "Heat" delivers on all levels. Great insight to the relentless pursuit of goals on both sides of the law. It's one of the first films I found myself rooting for both the good guy and the bad! I do disagree on one point that everyone seems to applaud. That two of Hollywood's best actors appear together in one movie. I challenge anyone to find me a scene in the movie where DeNiro and Pacino actually appear together. The restaurant? I see the back of a head when Pacino/Deniro are talking. The end? I still don't see the two of them together. Brilliant editing and great stand-ins, but I doubt these two were ever together on screen. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong. I recommend this movie highly to anyone who has not seen it. This is how movies should be done. A Brilliant Michael Mann Film!

Summary: Classy movie.
Review: I love this film because it has such a human side to it. I'm usually one for independent films, but this movie is just flat out excellent. I fell in love with both Pacino and De Niro's characters. This movie is really deep. Don't be fooled, it's more than just a cops vs. robbers film. The movie is filled with spectacular dialogue, first rate acting, great direction and lighting, and some intense relationships. Also, the music is wonderful.
Did I mention... Pacino is so amazingly awesome and De Niro is just ultimate cool. Even the little facial expressions say a 1,000 words. I mean, look- even the way Pacino chews gum is fascinating!! Buy this film if you want to see a classy story about two guys from opposite sides of the camp who realize they have more in common with each other than they thought. It's almost like a modern-day tragic shakespearean tale. I can watch this movie over and over.

Review: Heat shines with criminals Robert DeNiro, Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore and Danny Trejo as the "crew" of daring bank robbers
who just want to do one last score and retire at the advice of DeNiro's
Neil McCauley character. There's subplots in the movie which is almost 2 1/2 hrs long.also starring Ashley Judd & Diane Venora
Major Highlite of the film the 13 minute shootout between McCauley's crew and the LAPD

Summary: Pacino Vs. DeNiro
Review: The biggest showdown ever? Yes! Al Pacino is a Los Angeles cop who wants to find the most sophisticated burglar in the country, Robert DeNiro. Aside from personal problems, the men are well respected by both worlds and when they meet in a diner, it's stone setting! DeNiro's character robs the biggest bank in L.A. and the shoot-out on the streets is remarkable. An extravaganza with a huge cast including Val Kilmer, Ashley Judd, Natalie Portman, Tom Sizemore and Jon Voight. Michael Mann's vision is crystal clear and this police-crime saga will never be forgotten.

Summary: Fantastic Michael Mann film...
Review: From the moody, picturesque scenes to the incredible acting, this is one great movie. While Michael Mann movies seem to always ride over the 2 hour mark, his movies (if you like them) never seem like they're over 2 hours. Al Pacino and Val Kilmer being two of my favorite actors are very good, especially Pacino, and it blends great action with great acting throughout (which seems difficult to do these days in cinema).
All in all, a great movie, and one that I'm always pulling out to watch on my system.

Summary: Intense
Review: Just as 'Bullit' became famous for it's car chase through San Francisco 'Heat' should set the standard for bank robbery footage. This film is simply nonpareil when it comes to hold up scenes. Robert DeNiro is a brooding, ice cold, methodical thief who plans a major score with his expert crew. Problem is that he is involved in a cat and mouse game with determined cop Al Pachino who hovers on the edge of burning out but doggedly pursues his prey. The personal relationship stories woven into the mix concerning Pachino, DeNiro and Val Kilmer are only mildly interesting (with DeNiro's story being the best) but the crime action is second to none. Occasionaly the movie feels as if it is biting off slightly more than it can chew but smooth direction keep it flowing and the actors submerge themselves in the plot rather than chewing up the scenery. Jon Voigt has a good role as part of the criminal underworld giving an understated performance. This film is thought to have been part of the inspiration for an infamous Bank of America robbery in Southern California that ended in a hail of bullets. This flick is also a cult favorite with Armored Car guards as another hapless crew is gunned down early in the picture.

Summary: My Favorite Movie of All Time - And I'm Picky!
Review: I won't repeat everything else you'll read here about the superb acting and direction. I will, however, call out what makes this movie special: no one does anything stupid.

Most movie story lines rely on an error in judgement on the part of the protagonist to advance the plot. Both sides here do everything right, brilliantly so, up until the end. You may find yourself thinking "Hey, if I were a criminal, that's exactly how I'd do it". And I don't mean hokey "crime of the century" stuff, I mean real-life criminal jobs. Same for the police, largely.

Ths music is also excellent. I hardly ever specifically notice the music in a film, but it really helped make this one!

Summary: A Great Movie with a Great Gun Battle!
Review: Heat is a great movie directed by Micheal Mann(The Insider, Ali) who does a great job in this movie. This movie has a great cast including Al Pacino(Godfather, Scarface), Robert De Niro(Taxi Driver, Raging Bull), Val Kilmer(The Doors, Top Gun), Tom Sizemore(Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down), John Voight(Deliverance, Mission Impossible) and Ashley Judd(Kiss The Girls, Double Jeopardy). Most movies cannot compete with this cast. I recommend this movie to any fan of Al Pacino/ Robert De Niro and likes some great action sequences.

Summary: A Crime Saga to Remember
Review: Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are two of my favorite actors. So when I found out that they would be in a movie together, I was very excited to see it. "Heat" is a crime saga masterpiece that mixes drama and film noir together. Combine all of those elements together and you get one hell of a movie.

Pacino plays a L.A. detective who is obsessed with his job. He has dedicated his life to put away every single criminal in the state. Much so that he has become obsessed with his job. De Niro plays a criminal who loves to go on heists. A professional he is, and he never gets caught. Soon, the two's lives collide with each other and all hell breaks out. Pacino becomes obsessed with catching De Niro. He will not rest until he is locked up.

That is only half of the story. There are many stories in this crime drama that interact with each other. Other great actors in this film include Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Ashley Judd, Jon Voight, and many more. Every character is unique in his or her way.

The director/writer does an excellent job of making us feel sympathy for the characters, even the bad ones. He has created a very dark and gloomy world in which nothing is certain. Problems lurk around every corner, ready to destroy each person. Don't be mistaken, this isn't an action flick. This is more of a film noir if anything. It's dark, the tone is somber, and it doesn't have the happiest ending. Although there is a bank heist scene in the movie that has to be one of the best action sequences in a long time.

As much as I love Robert De Niro, and he does a great job portraying his character, Pacino steels the show. It's one of his best roles in recent years. He's vulgar, rude, offensive, and short-tempered. But, he also has a heart, and you get to see that as the movie progresses. As serious as his character is supposed to be, he has some of the funniest lines you will ever hear him say. He definitely wins "best actor" in my book.

Again, this isn't an action film. It is very long (almost three hours), and it is very story oriented. The film concentrates on character development the most. This is a great film that realistically portrays these kinds of characters. This is a movie about choices and consequences, and you're not exactly sure how the movie will end. A very good movie that should've received more recognition.

P.S. I haven't had the chance to check out the special features on this DVD. From what I remember, there isn't too many. But that would be because the movie is so long, and it's all on one side.
