Rating: Summary: Amazing movie. Review: This review only refers to the VHS version. I have not experienced the DVD version, but it sounds rediculous. This movie is unbelievable. Scorcese does an amazing job, as does DeNiro, Liotta and Pesci. This is the best gangster movie ever made, hands down. You need to go out and add it to your movie collection (unless your movie collection consists of DVD, then wait an hour before buying it) immediately.
Rating: Summary: GREAT MOVIE/SORRY DVD Review: When you compare a movie like the Matrix and Goodfellas, Goodfellas wins tenfold. However, when you compare the same movies on a DVD, they are again night and day, only in the favor of The Matrix. It disturbs me that Scorsese, a huge advocate for film preservation dosen't care more about the quality of his own pictures. C'mon Marty! You did it in Taxi Driver! A huge amount of sales would go up if he and Pillegi spoke on the thing. In addition, there is disc flipping involved? . On Casino, you didn't even have to flip. And, that DVD was more than 3 hours long! If this is the fault of Warner Bothers, then those idiots should respect the fact that this is one of the best films in film history!
Rating: Summary: Great film - Annoying DVD Review: Goodfellas is probably my favourite film of all time so I decided that I would buy it on my favourite format, DVD. To my horror, I opened the box to find it was a single layered DVD, meaning I would have to get up from my comfy position on the couch (which is very comfy by the way) flip the DVD half way through the film and then go back to the comfy position again, which is a bit annoying . Other than that it's brilliant. (But wouldn't a commentry from DeNiro and Scorsese have been even brillianter?)
Rating: Summary: should've been 5 stars Review: this is a great movie for any gangster flick fan! it has the lot, humour, violence, and a great story with excellent dialogue. a must see! i would have given it 5 stars if the disc hadn't been a "flipper" the last thing you want to do have way through a movie is get up and turn the disc, i expect more from warner brothers.
Rating: Summary: ENTHRALLING, VIOLENT, FUNNY, CLEVER, RAY LIOTTA IS SUPERB... Review: This film is a real gem, and deserves to be in the top 10 movies of the 1990's, the cast is 'untouchable' and there is not a weak point I can find in the whole movie. Deserves to be in any serious collectors hands, although I would recommend to anyone who likes the "Godfather - esque" movies.
Rating: Summary: GREAT FLICK! Review: Funny as heck, fascinating, thoroughly riveting--and the gangsters are even likable! Joe Pesci plays the most memorable lowlife ever in film history; Ray Liotta is good; and Robert Deniro plays it cool. Does Goodfellas romanticize the Underworld? A li'l bit, a li'l bit--but not enough where you'd want to join it. All in all, a great film. Even funnier if you remember SNL's parody of Pesci's character in "The Joe Pesci Show."
Rating: Summary: Great Movie! Mediocre DVD! Review: After Godfather I and II, Goodfellas has to be the best "mob" movie out there. But I was disappointed in the DVD for one BIG reason. I had to flip the damn thing over halfway through the movie! I stayed away from laserdisc for this very reason. C'Mon Warner Brothers! There is no reaon that this couldn't have been created as a dual-layer DVD. I'd even spend a couple extra bucks for it.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Mob Movies Ever Made Review: I have noticed that Robert DeNiro was in mostly every Mob movie ever made and I think that is great because he is such a good actor. Goodfella's has to be one of his better ones because they show you how a mob meets people and then kills people and then teaches people. A must see movie for those of you who are DeNiro Fan.
Rating: Summary: Goodfellas is a masterpiece, Scorsese's Best Film. Review: This Film Opens To an eye shot of henry hill, looking out the window, at the cabstand, where all the wiseguys, and paulie, hang out, pauling being the main boss of the neiborhood, i'm not going to reveal anymore, but the film is an absolute gem, a diamond, the scenes, the dialogue, joe pesci, and robert de niro, in my opinion, make the film shine, liotta, was a good candicate to play henry hill, samuel l. jackson, has an appearence. the violence isn't as bad, as people might wan't you to believe, it's justified. never to graphic. a great soundtrack. this is one of those films, before the late '90's with good dialogue, an excellent story, speacial effects, aren't involved, because this is a story about a neiborhood of wiseguys, the life and times of henry hill, jimmy conway, and tommy D. See this film, it's the ultimate crime not to.
Rating: Summary: . Review: Solid, engaging, well-performed film suffers only from two things: Bracco's narration during the "romance," which is extremely annoying, and a few inexplicably silly gimmicks in the last couple scenes (what's with the cut to Joe Pesci firing the gun at the camera?) It's always a little painful for such a generally good movie to throw in something so stupid just as its finishing up. But these are fairly minor qualms; the brunt of this movie is compelling and very well handled. Not as glossy or distinctly aesthetic as a film like the Godfather, with less appealing characters, but this is not a criticizm -- it gives it a more unsettlingly true-to-life feel. Good stuff.
