Summary: The best supernatural thriller I have ever seen.
Review: If you like horror movies, or classic gumshoe stories this is the film for you. Rich atmospheric story that's worth watching over and over. Not for the squemish.

Summary: Worth a try, but don't raise your hopes too high
Review: Yes, the film conveys the atmosphere of the early 1950s quite well, and the plot unfolds nicely enough. But all the rats in gutters and the constant rainfall in New Orleans seem a bit overdone, not to mention the blood dripping from a ceiling for no apparent reason. Why is it that Mickey Rourke often seems to be parodying rather than acting his character parts? Robert de Niro does his best to avoid parody in playing the devil, but in the end the essential frivolousness of the storyline defeats even him.

Summary: Enduring images of evil
Review: This is my all-time favourite film. From the wonderful opening credits (is the man with the stick Louis Cyphre?) to the stomach-churning final scene it's sheer quality. Mickey Rourke makes a fine job of the seedy private eye, and he perfectly expresses the bewilderment of a bascially decent man unwittingly possessed by evil. Robert de Niro's all-powerful, static and quietly spoken presence steals every scene in which he appears as Mr. Cyphre. The imagery is beautiful, powerful and scary. I reommend that lovers of this film also read the book on which it is based (Falling Angel)- quite different but equally memorable.

Summary: HOT AND STEAMY SUSPENSEFUL MYSTERY!
Review: This is one of those movies you can't watch just once (or twice or three times)! Excellent performances by Mickey Rourke, Robert DeNiro, and, most especially, by Lisa Bonet. Lisa Bonet's earthy sensuality, incredible beauty, and spell binding screen presence seal this as my favorite movie of all time!!

Summary: Manhattan, Coney Island, and New Orleans in the '50's
Review: The cinemaphotography is breathtaking, the plot is thought-provoking, and the effect is lingering. Not bad for a movie that your friends have never even heard of! :-)

Summary: GOT TO SEE IT MORE THAN ONCE
Review: This is one movie that you see for the first time, and it catches your attention, even if you can't understand it completly, and you can't wait to see it again. See it for the second time, (or third, or fourth, or...), and you won't be able to stop thinking about it. Besides, De Niro and Rourke are "so hot".

Review: A Private Detective story with a difference. P.I. Harry Angel is hired by the enigmatic Mr Cypher to find a one time singing star called Johnny Fortune. The case leads him down to the deep south where he encounters a series of people heavily involved in devil worship and black magic. The conclusion is so horrific that Angel wishes that he'd never found out the truth. A very original crime thriller. Recommended. END

Summary: A CRISP, CHILLING TREAT OF THE OCCULT
Review: Let's see. A mesmerizing Mickey Rourke in his element. A brief but blood-curdling cameo from DeNiro sporting overgrown fingernails, dark flowy suits and a baritone drawl. A starkly bold turn from the beautiful Lisa Bonnet who exudes sexual abandon..

Cut to the chase, Angel Heart is a riveting psychothriller with cojones. It absolutely boggles me, then, why this is not the cult classic that it so richly deserves to be!

What begins as a fairly innocuous sleuthing adventure quickly takes on the contours of a supernatural drill, replete with mythological and biblical symbolism, as our private-eye discovers the true nature of his horrifying engagement.

Trevor Jones' riveting score and Parker's immaculate direction could be some of the reasons why this grand nightmare lingers in your thoughts long after the credits have rolled, but whatever the motivation, I highly recommend getting a hold of this classic with an unforgettable twist.
