Summary: One of my favorite movies
Review: For some reason this movie got bad reviews. My friend and I LOVED it. The story line was inteligent, it was all in all a great guessing movie. since i like to know what happens, my friend told me what would happen, had she not, i wouldn't have known what would happen or the end..so this movie is in no way predictable. The cast is great....Charlie Hunnam and Bejamin are not only amazing actors but very good looking as well. My friend liked the movie so much, she went to theaters and watched it 3 times. I didn't get to see it til later so I only saw it once, but the day it comes out you can guarantee I will be at the store to get it. I've recommended to everyone at school that they should get it, or atleast rent it. This is definetly once of my favorite movies. Don't listen to all the bad reviews, they're wrong! Watch this movie!

Summary: My senses ABANDONED me when I decided to see this movie.
Review: I believe that this movie was definitly thought up by a extremely creative inividual. This movie is really great if you are used to the plot line jumping every which way. Flash backs and fast forwards all add to this complicated and somewhat boring movie. Sorry if you enjoyed it but I really like to not be happy when the movie ends and to be honest I grew really restless and annoyed with this story line.
It all begins with an innocent girl next door, Katie Burke, starting her final year at university. She is plunged into chaos when a detective begins to look for her asstranged boyfriend Embry Larkin. Embry had been gone and believed dead but now Katie swears he's back. He tortures her mentaly until they meet face to face, curtosy of a note left by Embry. They talk but it ultimately it ends up that Kaite is led to keep seeing him because she is still in love with him.
By now Katie has already created a relationship with the charming and handsome detctive, who is a ex-alcoholic (this adds nothing to the movies plot and I don't even know how it would be coherent in this scenerio). The two engage in the relationship however it is very focused around Embry and his actions towards Katie. So as the story develops as they become "closer" to catching Embry when Katie is attacked by him and of course the protective boyfriend follows after.
Now this is where it becomes confusing because through Katies screams at nothing the detective finally discovers that Katie has a problem and it isn't with Embry Larkin. He says the dreaded 5 words: "You can't come with me." and Katie is pushed over the edge killing the detective as she did her boyfriend (which you find out through a flash back). So yes this girl is a skitsofrenic murderer and the reason for which it was never found out was because at those times no one was looking for them or needed to for that matter. To top it off, the building in which they were killed is purposely collapsed for rebuilding purposes within the week so no worries.
Now there are many more things that occur during the movie that make it all the more suspenceful and unexpected however by breaking it down I'm just not sure I can appreciate this film for all it is worth.

Summary: Abandon : The Worst Film I've Seen This Year
Review: After the great sling of thrillers like "Signs" and "The Ring" I thought going to see Abandon would be pretty well worth my money also. Well..I was wrong. The predictable storyline, if you can even figure out what the main plot is, the mediocre acting and the unoriginal ending, the whole movie is pretty much worth half of what you pay at a matinee showing. The only up points were the moments when you got startled, and the few times when you felt like it was suspensful.

Summary: Why You Should Ignore The Critics And See ABANDON
Review: Okay. I know the critics slammed this film. I know it did poorly at the box office. Forget all that and listen up.

Stephen Gaghan's directorial debut Abandon is an really fine film. From it's grainy 70s style photography by the cinematographer of Requiem For A Dream, to the script, Katie Holmes' most controlled and emotionally invested performance, and the haunting score, it's worth a viewing.

I live in Los Angeles. I'm a screenwriter and I own a production company. I see hundreds, literally hundreds of films each year. Critics, for the most part, are really not that bright. They all have bones to pick and if they feel they'll be frowned upon by fellow critics for supporting a film, they will fold.

The cast is great. Holmes is absolutely stunning. Gaghan doesn't let a single Joey/Dawson's Creek facial expression slip through. He uses Holmes' face, her beauty, her eyes, to convey someone who is absolutely coming apart at the seams. The pacing, the lazy, dreamlike time lapse feeling of the film is what her character is all about. The pacing and structure of the film are a reflection of her mind set. There's very little not to like here. Bratt is also really good as a recovering alcoholic cop.

It all works nicely. Hopefully Gaghan will try to get the DVD loaded up with extras. I think this is a film that deserves a second look.

Summary: I Liked It Alot!
Review: Abandon was a very strange movie. I heard about the movie earlier in the year on a website and thought that it looked pretty good. When I saw it I thought that it was strange but great. Alot of people say that Abandon is very predictable but I didn't guess the ending. The ending was great and left you in a state where you knew that there had to be a sequal. This is the type of movie where you just have to ignore what all of the reveiwers think and just go see it if you think that it looks interesting!

It stars Katie Holmes as.....Katie Burke who is in her senior year at college. Katie is under alot of stress trying to finsh her thesis and taking job interveiws. She is also just getting over the fact that her rich boyfriend Embry has been missing for two years. Embry is played by Charlie Hunnam. Since he has not spent any money or has been seen everybody thinks that he is dead. Enter Detective Wade Handler who is a recovering alcoholic and has been assigned to find out more on the Embry case. Wade's investigation leads right to Katie and he questions her to find out more. Everything is fine untill Katie starts to see a person who looks exactly like Embry. The supporting cast is also very great. The very talented Zooey Deschannel (The New Guy, Big Trouble),Gabrielle Union and Melanie Lynskey also light up the screen.

The only problem with Abandon is how it is a little slow at the beginning and the scene when they are drunk or high at a party. I felt that that scene was a little too much. To conclude I liked Abandon and if I have a little extra money it would probally become part of my DVD collection.

ENJOY!

Summary: Predictable
Review: All I can say about this movie is that I guessed how the whole story was gonna go just by watching the trailer and a few interviews with Katie Holmes. This movie is not for the thinking kind and moves so slowly that you'll wish you were the one halluciniting and not the characters in the movie. All the actors did a fine job. And Ms. Holmes turned in yet another terrific performance giving this movie its only redeeming quality. However, I went to this movie to see a thriller and a mystery, hoping for a few scares, but I came out of it sad. Sad that the main character has so many problems in her life and sad that I didn't go see The Ring instead.

Summary: Abandon-Your Average Thriller
Review: After seeing Abandon, I was feeling rather odd. This film made sense, but ripped off other movies with similar plots. Katie Holmes and Benjamin Bratt star in this thriller from writer/director Stephen Gaghan. He wrote the Academy-Award winning screenplay for Traffic (2001). The film is great and has a great cast, but it can't help this illogical, psychological thriller from being a bit successful or appealing. I enjoyed the film, but it's good just seeing it once. Stephen Gaghan's script is good and sohphisticated, and his clever style of writing and direction help this film, but it still doesn't shimmer.
Katie Holmes plays Kathyrn, a good college student who is writing her thesis but is having serious trouble completing it, due to something which she keeps fretting about. Her old boyfriend played by Charles Humman, is haunting her. He disappeared two years ago and she has memorable moments of him and her together. Benjamin Bratt plays the detective investigating the case, but Holme's character is not that willing to cooperate after a while. And so the plot thickens, yeah right! This film seemed like it would be a little eerie and creepy, but it fails on all attempts to make scared it makes more upset and disappointed that scared to death. The film is decent, don't get me wrong it's an average film, but truly not the best. The ending will shock you, just kiddding probably not! But I might add that Katie Holmes's acting is good and we get strong performances from her as well as Benjamin Bratt. So the performances are great, the plot is decent and well that's about all I can say about Abandon.
Abandon is rated PG-13 for Drug and Alcohol Content, Sexuality, Some Violence and Language. This film is acceptable for kids 13 and up, not preteens. The violence is understated and there are some brief sexual situations. Fairly reasonable.
Anyway see Abandon if you must, because it's worrh your time and money. In theatres everywhere October 18, 2002.

Summary: McGill Alumni pay close attention...
Review: The movie itself is pretty bad, but as a McGill graduate, I was pleasantly surprised when I was flipping channels and happenned upon scenes of Leacock, Upper Rez, Douglas Hall, the Royal Vic Hospital, and even the football field that our proud Redmen share with the Montreal Alouettes. Definitely worth checking out...

Summary: It was reasonably entertianing, but...
Review: ...for a mystery/thriller, there was very little that was mysterious or thrilling. From the first 15 minutes of the film, the end was obvious. Call me crazy, but I like plot twists that I don't see coming a mile away.

But hey, it could have been worse - it could have been Disturbing Behavior.

Review:
What a lame, boring movie. Did the producers have money to burn when making this? Benjamin Bratt..You have done, and can do much better than being in such a lackluster movie
