Summary: "Hey, Donnie, What Does Forgettaboutit mean?"
Review: This movie is great. Wonderfully acted, hooking plot, good payoff, well directed. However, tthere is one scene that is out of place in the movie---a scene so hilarious it should have been in a comedy--a scene bewteen Paul Giamatti and Johny Depp. And that scene is ....forgetaboutit.

If you don't even like mafia movies, you'll lvoe this scene. Finally, someone from the inside explains about Italian Mafioso slang in a method that is oscar-worthy.

"Forgetaboutit means many different things...."

Forgetaboutit.

Review: Another Depp Classic. He plays a man who is in the FBI who has to go undercover in the mob. Its like 21 Jumpstreet but all grown up!

Summary: Semi-slept on classic
Review: This is an absolutely GREAT mob flick, and it's also one of the first movies to start Johnny Depp into more mature and serious roles. His Portrayal of Joe Pistone is amazing. Additionally, Al Pacino's portrayal of Lefty Two Guns, Donnie Brasco's Mentor, is ALSO amazing.

This movie is especially good because it's a mob movie done from the other side of the spectrum. Instead of having the central figure being a mobster, who is destined for either jail or a pine box, the central figure is a FBI agent, who's infiltrated the mob deeper than anyone in the history of the FBI.

Basically, what you get is a main character who is human and has all the traits of a normal person, but it also shows the human side of the mob. You see how a person could become part of it, how they can get drawn in, and how the mob acts like family. And from how it sounds, Pistone got so far into the mob, he wasn't sure if he really wanted out. Depp's portrayal of this is fantastic, and I can't say enough about how much I like this movie.

Summary: Glad I Rented this Movie Last Night!
Review: I have been wanting to see this movie for what seems like years now, due to the fact I love Mob movies and Johnny Depp's acting ability in any film he does. This is one of Johnny Depps first Big leading roles in a film and he holds up even against the great Al Pacino. Speaking of Al Pacino..he should easily have been nominated for a Oscar for his portrayal of Lefty, but more times than not the Oscar Academy has no clue what great acting is (Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York should have won last year no questions asked!). Michael Madsen is always a fun actor to watch on screen and this is one of his best performances. Anne Heche really impressed me with her acting as well and she actually looked kinda hot. The last scene in this film featuring Al Pacino opening a drawer, putting in a few precious items, closing it, only to open it again and leave it ajar a few moments later is truly powerful because of what it implies. This film may not be as great as Goodfellas, but it is one you can mention in the same sentence and not feel guilty about it. Tired of renting bad movies that look interesting because of the cool covers on the dvd, fuggetaboutit, rent or buy Donnie Brasco and go home happy.

Summary: Unforgettable
Review: What a powerful, moving film. I'm a huge fan of Al Pacino and Johnny Depp, so having the two of them together in this film was dynamite. Both performances are spot-on...Al Pacino so much so that I cried at the end of this movie. Don't miss it!

Summary: Donnie Brasco
Review: The fact that this was a true story just really spoke to something within me. The price that the agent played by Depp pays--as well as his family--is so high. It made me wonder, my goodness, how do we ever catch ANYONE???

I am not a fan of Al Pacino. Not at all. Other than the Godfather--which must be some fluke of his career--I find him to be very overrated. He pretty much yells all the way through his films. Hey, buddy, I can yell too and no one pays me a bunch of money to do movies! That aside, this may be the one Pacino film--outside of the GODFATHER, of course--in which I enjoy Pacino. He is really good in this film.

Well executed film.

Summary: Donnie Brasco - A true mafia masterpiece!
Review: "Donnie Brasco" is a true mafia masterpiece and what is more interesting about it is that it is based on an amazing true story. This is the true story of FBI undercover agent Joseph D. Pistone, who when faced with the task of infiltrating a New York City "family," he not only does that, but he did it with perfection. As you will soon learn with this movie, FBI undercover agent Joseph Pistone infiltrated and stayed within this "family" for six years and if it weren't for his superiors' intervention he would've stayed with them even longer, as he was within months of becoming a "made" wise guy when he was brought out.

"Donnie Brasco" represents a sort of coming out for Johnny Depp in that this was really his first adult dramatic role that didn't portray him as a teenager or something in the Science Fiction range. He truly deserves all of the accolades that he earned for this role. Al Pacino's performance was superior for this movie. In so many movies he's made, he's played pretty much the same guy with a different name, this is not the case with his role in "Donnie Brasco," he truly became the character he was playing. This was an Oscar winning performance on his part, the only missing part was the actual best supporting Oscar. The performances by Michael Madsen, Bruno Kirby, Anne Heche and all of the other actors in this outstanding film all served beautifully in making this film the true silver screen masterpiece that it is.

It's kind of odd that British director Mike Newell of "Four Weddings and a Funeral" fame would get the directing nod for "Donnie Brasco" but in the end, it worked out perfectly and he deserves a great amount of credit for the "style" and "atmosphere" of this film. The score for "Donnie Brasco" plays perfectly with every scene of the film, serving to enhance the story.

The premise:

FBI undercover agent Joseph D. Pistone is tasked with the mission to infiltrate Lefty Ruggiero's (Al Pacino) mob family. Posing as a jewel broker Donnie Brasco, Agent Pistone does this with apparent ease. He soon learns that this will not be a quick task to complete and his six year run begins, jeopardizing his family, his career and his life as he becomes so intertwined with this crime family and starts to care about his mob "mentor" Lefty, whose life will become forfeit when the truth is revealed.

For any fan of the "mob" movie genre, I highly recommend this film as it gives a perfect look at the mob lifestyle and it easily ranks up there with many of the famous mob movies. This movie will certainly bear multiple viewings. {ssintrepid}

Summary: A Very Cool Movie
Review: Besides having a great script and superb acting, this film is special for another reason. Throughout film history many actors have tried to capture the essence of being cool. James Dean paved the way in his performance in Rebel Without A Cause. In my opinion, Johnny Depp creates a character that goes to that same level. It's the type of movie you'll watch over and over. This is my favorite movie of all time and I think one of the best great actor teams in Pacino and Depp. Buy this movie if you love a great drama. If you have a problem with vulgarity, this might not be the movie for you.

Summary: One of the best gangster flicks I've seen.
Review: Al Pacino and Johnny Depp give strong performances, one as a poor low-life -an impeccable and different Al Pacino- and the latter as an undercover cop. The film becomes very powerful and believable through the two characters' relationship and the meticulous depiction of mob-like activities; and it is based on a true story, by the way.
Very good film, watch it.
