Summary: good film
Review: the hurricane starts off as a violent and full of flash backs to fights and times in prison and is interesting then it goes on like that for a while and it gets to the point when you have to be very patient until the end when it is good. and by the way i don't know why this is R in america because in australia you only have to be 15.

Summary: The appeal of how real the whole deal feel is unreal!
Review: Good acting, montage, photography, directing, screening, dialouge and execution. Average special effects. I recommend viewing this movie if u r a kind of person that accepts the recommendation of others towards suggesting movies to watch.

Summary: Be patient with this movie. You will love it.
Review: This is one of the most powerful films I have ever seen in my nearly 15-year-long life. It is the true story of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, and how he was put in jail for a murder he didn't commit. The boxer's autobiography, called "The Sixteenth Round", soon began selling, and it had a strong influence on a young highschooler by the name of Lesra Martin. Lesra and his caretakers then go through a long, exhausting battle for justice in order to set the boxer free.

This film has a nearly perfect script, with some of the best movie quotes ever, like "Hate put me in prison, love's gonna bust me out", "I have committed no crime, crime's being committed against me", "I'll always be The Hurricane, and The Hurricane is beautiful"...okay, I'll stop there.

Another great aspect: the acting! Denzel Washington is absolutely stunning in the lead role. He really knows how to be very emotional during very emotional scenes. Vicellous Reon Shannon is also a welcome newcomer as Lesra Martin, and I can't wait to see him in another movie.

This movie is quite long, and the story may feel a little slow-paced. But if you find yourself getting restless while watching this movie, this is not your kind of movie. You're just not patient enough to enjoy these kinds of movies. You probably prefer mindless comedies or fast-paced action, rather than slow and touching drama.

Bottom Line: Watch "The Hurricane". It will blow you away! (no pun intended)

P.S. I must give credit to Ryan Capuano for his excellent review on this marvelous movie. If I had not read his review, I would never have seen the movie, and therefore this review would never have seen the light of day.

Summary: Familar story but the characters won my heart
Review: It's strange how I knew exactly how this film was going to end but I still wanted it to end that way. An uplifting type of film that everybody has already seen countless times, although Jewison employs an intricate chronology in the storytelling that made things more interesting than expected. Denzel Washington, as always, is a treat to watch. As for the controversy surrounding the film, I just want to quickly say that there shouldn't be one.

Summary: Easily one of the best
Review: Great works of art give us a glimpse of the meaning to life. Here's a quote from a friend: "Finally I watched The Hurricane and now I feel really bad about not having watched it earlier. I resisted watching it for a long time and now I feel like one of the ignorant people who never bought his book and read his story."

I must for the collection.

Summary: DENZELL WAS GREAT AGAIN
Review: HURRICANE SHOWED THE REAL LIFE INJUSTICES IN OUR SOCIETY HOW A FEW WHITE PEOPLE CAN POINT A FINGER AND A BLACK MANS FREEDOM IS TAKEN AWAY. DENZELL JUST BROUGHT THE STORY OUT MORE ON THE BIG SCREEN WITH HIS TOP OF THE LINE ACTING. AND THE YOUNG BOY THAT HELPED HURRICANE AND THE GOOD PEOPLE FROM CANADA THANK THE LORD FOR ALL OF THEM HELPING HIM. IT SHOWED US THAT THEIR IS STILL ANGELS OUT THERE IN ALL COLORS.

Summary: A good movie, but it could have been better
Review: Unlike a number of people, I won't comment on the historical accuracy of the movie. That's not really relevant to whether or not I enjoyed the movie, since I didn't know any of the story beforehand.

This movie is about 2 hours 30 minutes, and I thought it should be shortened by about 30 or 40 minutes. All of that time should come out of the beginning. The first hour of the movie is spent giving background of the man's life. There is no plot development in this first hour. It's important, but largely uninteresting; I don't think they needed an hour for it.

The story, once they start presenting it, is very interesting and the movie is well made. A major flaw, though, is the evil-cop character. He's the most one-dimensional character I've ever seen. On the whole, I think the movie is certainly worth watching.

Summary: A Perfect Movie for the "Touched by an Angel" Set
Review: This movie is nothing more than a disappointing load of garbage, better-suited to be found on network television as a palatable-for-the-masses made-for-TV movie brought to you by Hallmark.

Plot holes abound. To wit: it was never explained what the motivation was for Dan Hedaya's character's life-long vendetta against the Hurricane. Why all the effort? And every scene involving the Canadian troupe was cringe-inducing. A contrived group of feel-good saviors. If the movie is to be believed, the Hurricane was basically saved by a bunch of overacting cartoon characters. The story would have fared better had those characters been Scooby and the gang.

Every "dramatic" portrayal was comical at best, except for Denzel's which was plain infuriating. Here he plays the same character he plays in every movie. It's frustrating how poor this movie is and that it opened to glowing reviews. An Oscar nomination? Pshaw - what a laughable notion.

It's deplorable that a compelling true-life story about an unconquerable human spirit could have been botched so profoundly, but there is NOTHING redeeming about this entire production. Usually if I rent a stinker I'll finish watching it on principle, just to get my couple of bucks worth. Not this time. This is the ONLY movie I ever returned without getting my money's worth. I didn't even bother rewinding the tape in order to avoid the chance of it getting stuck in my VCR.

Read the book instead.

Summary: A Movie to be seen by all!
Review: THE HURICANE is a movie that is to be seen by all ages and members of the family. It speaks of a problem which continues to haunt American democracy--racism and prejudice. The movie communicates its story very well and there are not enough adequate words to say how excellent a job Denzel Washington did as an actor. I was very, very impresssed with the plot and acting from the very beginning and tears were in my eyes as, finally, Carter was declared innocent. To think that such blatant things can happen in the America we love in this day and age is unbelievable.

I highly recommend the film and would hope that someday Hollywood would consider giving Mr. Washington an oscar for such excellent acting. It is films such as THE HURRICANE which will create an awareness in the minds of Americans that we can no longer and must no longer tolerate such behaviour by those who are in authority. In a day when prejudice and racism seem to be on the rise in the so-called first world countries, the movie's message is a must for all. May God help us!
