Rating: Summary: Not bad ... as fiction Review: I liked the movie a lot ... having said that, I will add that they should have changed the name of the character Assante was playing ... 'cause it sure wasn't Gotti.Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of the Gambino family will be able to see through this patented white-wash. Gotti may have believed in honor and all that, but he was also a reckless gambler, a murderer, a drug dealer and -- let's face it, folks -- a not-very-bright guy. If he would've only kept his mouth shut, he probably would still be holding court at the Ravenite right now. Additionally, Quinn's portrayel of Gotti-mentor Neil Dellacroce also was farce. Dellacroce, who I consider a rather fascinating character (I would love for someone to write a bio of him), was described by one FBI agent as the scariest individual he had ever met in his life. Quinn plays him like he's a harmless grandpa.
Rating: Summary: I loved the movie Review: I think this was a sleeper, Anthony Quinn should have gotten a supporting actor award for this!! I haved owned it for 3 months and I would say I watched it 10 times. Worth the price
Rating: Summary: Excellent Mob story Review: I would put "Gotti" up right below "Godfather" and "GoodFellas" as one of the best mafia movies around. An HBO Original Movie, Armand Assante captures the angry, attention-hungry hitman-come-godfather quite realistically. Supporting actors Anthony Quinn as Gotti's mentor and William Forsythe as the rat Sammy Gravano are convincing.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Docudrama Review: I'm generally biased against HBO movies, due to uninteresting storylines, but a film like this (mostly shot in Toronto, but you'd never know) gets top marks for some great character actors, and a solid script. I agree that it tends to favor John Gotti, as stated by one of the earlier reviews, but hey--the film isn't called 'Underboss', now, is it? Armand Assante proves himself to be one of the most underrated actors of our time, and Anthony Quinn is mesmerizing, as always.
Rating: Summary: If you know Gotti, run from this movie Review: If you have read about John Gotti or know anything about Johnny Boy, stay far away from this GARBAGE movie. They had plenty of books to go to for information on Gotti and it was like they made it up. I don't think 5% of the movie was accurate. As a "mob" fanatic I was outraged to even watch this movie.
Rating: Summary: If you want to sleep ...Buy it Review: If you have to go to bed but you can't sleep, this is the right sleeping pill. The actors are bad and they certainly watched too much Scorcese movies, The bloke who's playing John Gotti is like a poor copy of De Niro playing the mafiosi ! This movie is full of claptrap, useless stuff and during more than two hours. If Gotti was a bad guy, how can he leave this stupidity about his life ? The main actor is walking like a clown. It's really [crud] and disgrace the John Gotti's memory.
Rating: Summary: The American Underworld Review: Interesting portrayal of the part of the American economy and life that is controlled by organized crime. This film depicts the rise and fall of John Gotti, an underworld boss who became a household word. It is not unusual for New Yorkers to know who the local mafia kingpin is but Gotti was known by name from Peoria to Portland. A series of violent events (Gotti got the job by killing his predecessor)and dramatic trials along with a media-savvy persona made Gotti appear to be the most powerful unelected man in America. Like a burning comet however he soon flamed out, partly a victim of his own ambition and style. A man who sought to re-build the mafia, "real in your face La Cosa Nostra!" actually nearly destroyed it through his antics. This movie boasts an excellent supporting cast to surround Armand Assante in the title role and zips along with crisp directing but suffers from a lackluster performance by William Forsythe who is badly miscast in the crucial role of Gotti enforcer, and later fink, Sammy "the Bull" Gravano. Several interesting commentaries crop up as the underworld laborers compare their enterprises and way of life to the "legitimate" actions of the United States government. Well worth a look.
Rating: Summary: With you till the end....................................... Review: It's a notable rise and fall of New York crime boss John Gotti a.k.a The Dapper Don. The Dapper Don's rise through the ranks of the Gambino crime family, was first through the support of his mentor, and then through a bold ass assassination of Paul,The Gambino's current boss.
Gotti is the man...New Yorkers all love him! He's changing the rules of the family, as well as making the news and the cover of magazines. "Man of the Year!"
Gotti's world comes crashing around him as his arrogance over beating the government on a rico charge, as well as his thirst for the limelight.
The Dapper "Don" is caught on tape revealing Sammy as a notorious killer. I told ya'll men talk 2 much! Loose lips Sammy gets up on the stand an co-signs with the man against Gotti! Wouldn't you know it...mob underboss, reputed murderer steps to the stand and corroborates.
The Don is doing LIFE.....Fed joint in Chi~town
It was okay, not explosive...
Rating: Summary: Gotti see this movie Review: This movie doesn't have that much recognision but I don't know how. It is possibly the best mafia movie around. It gives you a great insite into how "Cosa Nostra" actually operates. It focus around how John Gotti came to be the boss of the Gambino crime family. It also tells you how he became famous as he dodged court cases and gave money to the poor. After seeing this movie you will wish that you where a gangster. If you like this movie read the books aswell. "FREE JOHN GOTTI!!!"
Rating: Summary: All About John Gotti Review: This movie focuses a LOT more on just the actual man John Gotti rather than all the affect he has. Armand Assante is very convincing and did an excellent job acting. However, unlike The Godfather, this is a REAL story. That makes it all the more fun to watch. It's definitely worth watching if you're a gangster movie addict like me
It's definitely no Godfather, but if you're looking for something new...give it a shot
