Review: I decided to watch this video because I had seen Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting and I have also read the book by John Grisham.In retrospective the film's basic idea is very simple - David vs. Goliath in a legal courtcase. Matt Damon plays a rookie lawyer, Rudy Baylor, who has just passed his Bar exam to be a lawyer. He then teams up with a 6 year old "lawyer"(he hasn't passed the Bar exam) to open their own small firm. Rudy has this case where a family is sueing an insurance company for not providing the operation needed for their son who is dying of leukemia.Hence the term David vs. Goliath. The film isn't just about that though, Rudy meets a victim of domestic violence and decides to help her because of his history of abuse. Before this film I wasn't a keen fan of courtroom dramas, but that has now changed thanks to this film, and I'm sure you will like it as well.Although it is obvious where the film is leading to, the style which the plot is delivered to you and the sharp script, along with a supportive cast (Danny DeVito + Danny Glover + Claire Danes) certainly make this film worth looking into.

Summary: A Good "Lawyer" Movie.
Review: Typically, I'm not big on courtroom type things, but one of my friends recommended this movie to me and I can't say that I was disappointed with it. I enjoyed the whole thing; the acting was wonderful. And it was slightly humorous to hear Matt Damon's Southern drawl! An all around good movie.

Review: On a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to give Rainmaker a (9), taking one point away for not giving Clair Danes more on-screen time. She is a fantastic actress. I loved the heart-warming yet suspenseful courtroom drama rooting for the underdog type movies anyway, but when you add strong convincing performances from the whole cast it makes the movie that much more enjoyable to watch.

Review: THE RAINMAKER is a by the numbers adaptation of John Grisham's bestseller. Director Francis Ford Coppola explores no new grounds in this film, but elicits competent and professional performances from a stellar cast. Matt Damon who plays Rudy burst onto the scene in this movie, released just before his Oscar winning screenplay and starring role in GOOD WILL HUNTING. Damon captures the youthful impetuosity and naivete of a just bar-approved lawyer who finds himself involved in a case against a big insurance company. His assistant is played by a restrained Danny DeVito. Their boss is played by an unusually understated Mickey Rourke, who shows up on screen looking halfway decent for a change. His clients are wonderfully played by Mary Kay Place and Johnny Whitworth. Jon Voight delivers an Oscar-worthy performance as Damon's devilishly cold opponent; Roy Scheider has a brief scene as the CEO of the insurance company; Randy Travis has a thirty second scene as an irate juror; Virginia Madsen is wonderful in a small role as the claims adjustor who was fired; Claire Danes is appropriately cast as the abused wife who turns to Damon for help. Oscar winner Teresa Wright turns up in a lovely role as an elderly lady who wants to leave her money to a tv evangelist.
THE RAINMAKER is perhaps a little too long (it clocks in well over two hours), and offers little in the way of suspense. It is competent, involving and ultimately satisfying, however. Matt Damon proved the hoopla about to come was deserved.
