Summary: Very good movie
Review: Val Kilmer is a very good actor. Watching him from teenager to an adult is kind of a good experience too for me. He should become more active before he becomes too old for something good for him. I actually like all the movies he's played a role in. This movie is a very good noir except his trumpet playing looks quite false. But all in all, this is a very good movie, although you won't be moved or touched too deeply or even shed a drop of tear for the guy he played and the whole story.

Summary: Psychedelic Film Noir
Review: It's amazing to me how movies like The Salton Sea & Memento (among others) so quickly find there way to the back shelf. Then I read some of the 1-STAR reviews for these movies and I pray that those folks don't represent the movie-going public at large - but I think they do. So, let's all collectively agree that the poor reviews of this movie are nonsense! Regarding the cinematography, this movie plays out like a wonderfully disturbing painting - each frame shot with care resulting in a visually amazing product. Val Kilmer and Vincent D'Onofrio seem to relish their roles - also, Luis Guzman given yet another great performance.
Bottom line: This movie will please even the most jaded of you. Oh, one more thought. Just because you don't like a movie does not mean all good reviews warrant a vote of NO - not helpful.

Review: JUST HOW AMAZING THAT VAL KILMER CAN ALWAYS FINDS HIS WAY INTO LOUSY MOVIES,NOW HE DOES IT AGAIN!

Summary: KILMER IS BACK ON TRACK!!
Review: As long as Kilmer is able to hold his head in its place and sustain the momentum generated by this great movie, maybe his career will go back on track!!!

His acting here is magnanimous, the movie is very well crafted (altough utterly violent.

It is one of those movies that you would not bet a dollar about its quality, but you end up totally surprised.

Summary: Ignore everyone that says this movie is bad
Review: This movie is one of the best I have ever seen in my life. This movie takes some thought to get what it's about, because some people don't really get it at first. But believe me, it's worth the thought. This movie isn't another Memento either, despite what people will tell you. It is nothing like Memento, other than the fact that it has to do with a guy who's wife is dead and he wants to find out who the killers were. See it, and then after you see it, see it again. It gets better everytime you watch it. Oh, one more thing, for those of you who think he's a meth head, watch the movie again and pay attention this time. Enjoy!

Summary: I don't mean to impose, but I am the Ocean
Review: It took me quite a significant amount of time to write a review about this movie, as I didn't particularly believe I could possibly review the movie in a justifying and satisfactory manner.

Here goes :

"The Salton Sea" is already one of my favourites, ever. It took 2 viewings to join the company of my other favourites ranging back to the 40s....YES, this movie is THAT good. I can't fathom how the film wasn't critiqued as positively as it ought to have been. A pity, considering many potential viewers won't watch the film.

This is film noir meets murder mystery meets a slight Monty Python quirkiness. Artistic cinematography, EXCELLENT acting on the parts of Val Kilmer and Vincent D'Onofrio (playing one of the most memorable on screen villians.....EVER), great score and soundtrack. The Salton Sea has repeat viewing quality like no other.

This movie draws the viewer into the confusing, euphoric, mildly humorous and yet bleak, tortured world of Val Kilmer. A heap of memorable and quotable dialog to boot. A truly draining and rewarding film experience. I'm atwitter thinking about DJ Caruso's next project!

If you don't own a copy yet, push this to the top of your MUST-BUY list.

Summary: The Whipped Sea
Review: I think parts of this film are brilliant. But Danny Parker's motivation is just something I can't buy. Danny Parker is a crystal head who used to be named Tom. Basically he's just a poser meth head and he's only doing it cuz some bad people killed his lame wife.
The biggest problem with this flick is that Danny as a character is much more interesting than Tom. I mean he's all upset because he used to be some whipped yuppie trumpet player with a typical yuppie wife (who's about as well written a character as a cover girl for Maxim. I mean if they had a magazine called "Herbal Tea Pseudo Intellectual Cover Girl", this woman would be on the cover). So one day she is killed in an unexpected drug shoot out. I mean he should have been happy, cuz let's face it the man was whipped as whipped can be. He was finally free!! He should have gone and sewn some oats, but NO!! He was so whipped he apparantly can't even recover after old tea leaves is gone and has to track down her killers.
He even keeps his old yuppie clothes hidden in the closet, and tries them on occassionally. WHY? I mean yuppie men are not men, they are just like women. They are the most emasculated men on the planet. They drink chai Lattes and wine spritzers. So how can Danny Parker be so upset over that part of his life being over?
Danny Parker is sexy and he was tattoos and he's interesting. He lives on the edge. I just can't buy the fact that he is just pining to go back and relive the tampon commercial he used to inhabit with little Miss Bath Beads.
They need to reshoot this movie and have Danny fall in love with Pooh Bear and then they shoot up a lot of gak together. It makes more sense and it's more interesting.
If your going to give someone a past, at least give them a past that won't repulse everyone in the theater. I swear I thought I was watching a herbal douche ad in the theater. I had to go home and drink beer and put on a Charles Bronson movie. I didn't bathe for a whole week. This film is an affront to all things masculine. Please, destroy it!!

Summary: beyond words
Review: Absolutely Beautiful. The best movie iv'e seen in YEARS. Vincent D'Onfrio is brilliant. Val Kilmer is beautiful. Peter Sarsgaard is unbelievably lovable. Debra Unger rocks. Luiz Guzman is always great, even in this small role.

Review: Was surprised by it and loved it. Val Kilmer never ceases to amaze me with his range of strange but edgy characters. The fact that this movie strays from the norm is one of its most endearing characteristics. It doesnt paint a pretty picture, it doesnt paint a sad depressing picture. it just tells you the way it is from the main character's point of view. This the most fantastic movie i've seen this year next to momento. :)

Summary: Awesome Surprise
Review: I did not know much about this film and was totally blown away by it. IThe story was wonderfully complex with brilliant color and style. Val Kilmar was exceptional as a torn soul seeking peace with himself after the brutual death of his wife.
