Summary: No Commentary as Advertised
Review: Of course, if you've seen the movie, you know it's good. But, contrary to what the advertisements about the DVD state, there is NO COMMENTARY of any kind. I don't know what happened, but I was disappointed with that. Other than that, the transfer is clean.

Summary: Great movie, but nothing special about the dvd
Review: As the Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies I was very anxious for a dvd release. I had heard that the dvd would include quite a few special features and warner bros. usually delivers. After just recently purchasing it I found nothing much at all. Just a few stills and a trailer. Some of the menus (like the language option) don't even work right. The only thing I can say is the sound and music is better than ever. I just think that this classic movie deserves better than a feature light, holiday rushed release....

Summary: remarkable
Review: This is one of the truly great films of American cinema. Frank Darabont proves not only that the power of hope is the strongest of all, but also shows us the power of the moving image. Outstanding on every level (despite what leaonard maltin says, the hell with him.)

Summary: on the money!
Review: Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman were spectacular in this film! I seen it 3 times

Summary: The movie is great (of course) but the DVD is lacking.
Review: This is a wonderful film about friendship and hope. And while some critics may disagree, I contend that the length of the movie actually heightens its effect. Kudos to Robbins, Freeman, and the whole bunch. Well Done. But while the film itself is laudable in so many ways, the DVD is seemingly lacking to the same extent.

For a movie of this caliber and quality, the DVD should have included the commentary by Morgan Freeman and the deleted scenes that were initially going to be part of the DVD release (at least according to some official looking internet chatter). Yes the production stills are nice, the trailer is a must have (and well done besides), and the biographical information on Robbins and Freeman is great. Those of us who truly enjoy this movie through repeat viewings however, expected more.

Summary: Answer me a question before you read this.....
Review: Just below this review are a couple of buttons for you to pass judgement on my review. Now as I liked this film and am about to write a favourable review most people will tick 'yes this review was helpful', when what they actually meen is 'yes, I agree with Alex's view on this film' I am a little distrubed to read comments like 'brilliant, one of the best ever' and 200 odd people claim it was a helpful review. You are being asked to comment on the review - not the film, if you want to comment on the film then write a review. ok?

Now the review of this movie - brilliant, one of the best ever:-)

Summary: Great movie on DVD, but features lacking
Review: The video on the DVD is top notch and is shown in great quality. But this is not a DVD to buy for features. The "stills galary" is a joke, its on some time lapse counter that just cycles through some photos one at a time. The "stills" are neat to see, but it'd be nice to control when the photo changes. The menu interface is dull in my opinion. The movie itself is very well done on the DVD. Other than that, the rest of the features on the DVD aren't worth much. It doesn't look like anyone spent any more than 10 minutes on the feature side. Great movie to watch on DVD, and thats about all to see on it.

Summary: On DVD, finally
Review: Well, it's finally here and it is received with mixed emotions. It seems the wait was not worth the pain. For months the release date has been pushed back. The DVD was supposed to contain a commentary by Morgan freeman, but it is missing. Still, though it is nice to have a permanent copy of the greatest movie ever made, finally.

Summary: Shawshank-The Best Movie Ever Made
Review: In my humble opinion, The Shawshank Redemption is simply the best film ever. It combines humor, pathos and hope in an unforgettable visual style.

The extremely high level of writing and acting combined with the obvious chemistry between Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman make The Shawshank Redemption a timeless classic.

Summary: DVD disappointment!
Review: This is a GREAT movie--no doubt about it, BUT the DVD does NOT feature a commentary track by Morgan Freeman.
