Summary: Snubbed
Review: I am not usually so inclined to rave about a movie, but alas I must break my mold. The shawshank Redemption should have won all 7 acadmy awards it was nominated for. Forrest gump was a good movie, but not as redeeming as Shawshank. I bought this DVD and was stunned by not only the picture quality, but the score in full surround. Buy this now! You will not regret it.

Summary: Great to see movies like this are still made
Review: Great movie in every respect. Should have won out over Forrest Gump for best picture, but who cares anyway? One of the best movies of all time...

Summary: A Special Film, Good DVd value, but no commentary
Review: I would have bought this great film in any case, but I was extremely disappointed with the lack of commentary by Morgan Freeman which was advertised in the Amazon DVD description. As for the Dvd.. you do get a crystal clear transfer and incredible sound quality on this one. The sound transfer is fantastic with the clarity of the voices on an amazing level. I was really looking forward to the commentary, but it isn't there! The cost is low and definitely worth the cost for the dvd, but there are few extras in this dvd. Great acting, great musical score, and very uplifting.. unlike the Green Mile which was good but not very inspiring the way this one is. The Freeman/Robbins chemistry is fantastic, very powerful.

Summary: Ditto the complaint for no commentary...
Review: This is a good movie, but this first release on DVD is disappointing. Expect a Collector's Edition in the near future, perhaps when "Green Mile" comes to DVD. In the meantime be warned, this DVD has few extras and NO COMMENTARY TRACK.

Summary: Outstanding
Review: If you do not have this movie in your collection, please don't be thwarted from purchasing it just because the DVD doesn't have a lot of flashy extras. Although I understand the frustrations of misrepresentation, it would be its own misrepresentation to tell people not to buy this movie simply because an actor/director doesn't explain each outake step-by-step or provide interactive trailer recommendations (aka commercials). This movie doesn't need a behind the scenes epilogue, you'll be able to get the clear and beautiful message that was intended just from watching the movie. This movie tugs at your very soul -- the stark prison setting only dramatizes the real message of the movie: faith, friendship, and to decide whether to 'get busy living or get busy dying'.

Summary: I preordered this for the commentary...
Review: ...only to find that when it arrived, it had none. I almost returned the DVD, for this was the sole reason I ordered it. But because the film is one of my favorites--far superior to the racist, treacly Green Mile--that I kept it. A testimony to a work of art triumphing over false advertising. Shame on Warner Bros. for dropping the ball not giving this fine film a DVD with the embellishments it deserves. Memo to the Amazonians: please correct the description of the DVD before more people order a product that you cannot deliver.

Summary: The best movie of the 90s
Review: Every decade has a film that stands out. I believe that The Shawshank Redemption is such a film. Other reviews have put it better that I ever could.

The quality of the DVD transfer is very good. The soundtrack is excellent with subtlety and remarkable detail. (note the sound when the warden throws Andy's rocks). The lack of extras is quite disappointing. I hope that there will be a Critereon Edition of this DVD some day.

Summary: Best Movie Yet
Review: Well what can I say about this movie. I thought that it was really well performed by Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. It starts out as with Andy (Robbins) in a court room accused of a murder which he denies that he did. They send him to prison for 40 years and then the movie starts getting really good. I mean REALLY good. I have never seen such a good story written before but now after I saw this I can understand that there are some really amazing talent out there. I liked the ending of the movie because it is a really satisfying ending it makes you feel a lot for these two characters Andy and Red (freeman) and after seeing this movie I have come up with some great ideas for a book about prison life

Summary: MOVIE = 10, DVD EXTRAS = 2
Review: as a movie, there are very few, if any, movies that can be enjoyed like shawshank redemption. as a dvd, i was utterly disappointed. it has been said that there would have been commentary by director and actors, deleted scenes, etc. however there is none of that. since trailers seem to be standard on dvd these days, there were virtually no extras. but still, the dvd is one of my favorite based on the movie and the transfer!

Summary: One of the finest films I have ever seen!
Review: The Shawshank Redemption is a movie I missed at the theaters. I don't know why, but I just never got around to seeing it. SR has developed a huge online following since then, and I've heard plenty of praise for it. While the DVD contains no extras, I couldn't resist the price. The other reviews elequently describe this masterpiece. But, I had to add my voice to the choir and proclaim that The Shawshank Redemption is one of the most terrific and uplifting films I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. The characters, story, everything is beautiful. How this film lost out to Forest Gump in the 94 Oscars, I'll never know. SR will be regarded as THE defining film of the 90's. Do not miss this one!
