Rating: Summary: What an uplifting movie. Review: Yeah I know what you are saying, how can a movie that spends most of its time in a prison, and a corrupt prison at that, be uplifting? Why because in this movie we see a simple theme, namely that the Human spirit can only be torn down from the inside. Andy's spirit is kept alive and because of it he does indeed survive. The actors in this movie are great. Morgan Freeman and Tm Robbins both do absolutely fantastic job. I could reccommend this movie if it was being sold for $40, but at $14 all I can say is go pick it up right now.

Rating: Summary: A thought provoking movie Review: The title says it all. However, I am still puzzled by how the poster on the wall got pasted back?
Rating: Summary: Shawshank Redemption Review: Good movie. However, I am disappointed with the liberal slant, unless it is typical practice in the USA for a murderer to go free after 50 years. But, even if it is customary, the writers purposely attempted to make the viewer feel sympathy for the murderer. In addition, by design they made the viewer feel hatred for the prison system and for the people who run it.
Rating: Summary: An excellent movie about one man's quest for redemption Review: The Shawshank Redemption definitely ranks in my top ten favorite movies of all-time. It is an excellent movie that stars Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne, a bank manager who has been convicted of murdering his wife and sent to serve out a life sentence in Shawshank prison. He quickly meets an inmate named Red (played by Morgan Freeman) who helps him through some of the struggles of prison life. Between frequent beatings by the "Sisters" and isolation, Andy Dufresne makes it his will to survive. This movie isn't so much about prison life as it is about life in general, which is what makes it so good. The screenplay was well-written, based upon the Stephen King novella "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption". In my opinion (some people will disagree) in this particular case, the movie is better than the book. The story is slowly laid out before the viewer and certain incidents are introduced throughout the movie that show the integrity of Andy Dufresne as well as his ingenuity (i.e. doing taxes for the prison guards). It helps if you pay attention to every little detail since they all collectively contribute to the turning point or climax. Without a doubt, the best part of the movie is the climax, which occurs near the end. I was totally taken away by what was revealed and I hadn't even expected it. You will definitely need to watch the movie to find out what happens here -- don't let anyone ruin it for you by telling you ahead of time. Overall, with the great story, good casting and acting, and an interesting soundtrack, the Shawshank Redemption is a classic movie that should not be missed. After I saw it on T.V. I went out and bought the movie and have watched it a number of times. Highly recommended for anyone as it tells a great story about life, struggle, and redemption.
Rating: Summary: Freedom Review: What a movie! I love Tim's way of seeming as though he was the teacher's pet most of time, when he never ever was! And what a surprise they all got when he was gone. Just goes to show you that a honest man sentenced for a crime that he didn't commit when put in a certain circumstance can become what he must to survive. And right the wrong and save himself! And that evil is sometimes hiding behind a false face, someone who is pretending to be a good man.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: Like Tim Robbins character says its about hope. This movie presents the viewer with something that seems devoid in such a landscape of deprivation and horror. To feel that good after seeing a prison movie, is incredible.
Rating: Summary: A true classic Review: I just want to state that Maltin`s Guide review misses the point completely. This film is not overlong; every minute is needed to build its momentum, it is not predictable or hollow. On the contrary, it is a surprisingly probing, deep, view of the tenacity of the human spirit and the value of friendship. Compassionate and deeply rewarding. Barring Renee Falconetti in "The passion of Joan of Arc", few actors have topped the moving performances of Robbins and Freeman. "Redemption" it is, indeed.
Rating: Summary: ** The Shawshank Redemption - A Classic ** Review: The Shawshank Redemption, what a fantastic, well-done movie. I can't say one bad thing about it... Let me first explain to you what the film is about.
Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), is a young and successful banker whose life changes drastically. He is convicted and sentenced to double-life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her golf-pro lover. The prison is called, "Shawshank." There he meets many people, good and bad. One of the inmates, is named Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman). Red is known as the person, "who can get things." Andy is in need for something, so he goes to Red; that's where their relationship hits off. Nonetheless, Andy makes other friends. The movie basically is about prison life, with a twisted ending.
The movie may not sound like much, but it's unbelievably good. I got into the characters right from the start. This is a movie that all should see... This is one of my favorites!
Rating: Summary: A hopefilled journey through time. Review: Tim Robbins stars as a man who is put in jail after being wronglly accused of killing his wife who commited adultery. In jail he meets many different characters including Morgan Freeman, who won an Oscar for his role in this film. Wonderful acting, wonderful everything! I love this film. I can watch it over and over and over and never get sick. I always cry at the end, it gives me so much hope. Hope is all we really have, and that's the one thing no one can take a way from us is hope...hope and God.
