Rating: Summary: One true consensus ! Review: To be honest, sometimes it seems odd that so much people write similar things about this magnificient film, but then again, everybody ,including myself ,wish to express and convey his thoughts and emotions in his/her special unique way. Hence, I decided to take my time to write a few words . I hope you'll like them (The immediate reason for this is that I'm currently reading the novel, four years after seeing the movie for the first time). Andy Dufresne. The name evokes nobel feelings in me whenever I hear it.Portrayed so wonderfully by Tim Robbins,it represents so much ; A man who had had everything, lost everthing and, finally, gained everything back. His character is one of the most inspiring I've ever known. What a man ! An example of the strength of the human spirit, and one basic rule : diligence and patience with a little bit of luck and wisdom can get you anywhere . . . Even outside the walls of Shawshank state penitentiary... If you've seen it once - see it again ! It never loses it's impact. Watch it whenever you're down and feeling like everything is going wrong .I bet it shall lift your spirit just a little bit higher ,and help you through the crisis .
Rating: Summary: Good Drama Movie Review: If you've seen the Green Mile, this movie has that kind of feel to it, except without the supernatural stuff. A very good movie, Morgan freeman was great.not quite as long as Green Mile so you don't have to have 3 1/2 hours to watch it. Good emotionally driven movie.
Rating: Summary: See it to believe it. You'll root for the bad/good guy. Review: Growing up, did you ever get accused of something you didn't do? What if you went to prison for it? How would you feel? How would you feel, stuck inside a prison with many other folks, most of which could be classified as psychopaths? How would you feel if death and rape and truly evil people were the penalty for a crime you didn't commit? Kind of like the star of this movie... This movie covers a mans journey into hell, the cruel treatment at the hands of his jailers and his fellow prisoners, the friendship between him and his one true friend, and final redemption from the worst that true institutionalization and cruelty can bring. There's so much wonderful feelings in this movie. Lots of reasons to own this one. Get it.
Rating: Summary: What are you a freaking geologist? Review: One of the best phrases in the movie. Of course here it is edited. I have noticed some downgrading this movie for the language. I really didn't notice any excessive foul language. If there was none you would have to wonder if this is a pre-scool or a prison. If you are going to a 'R' rated movie set in a prison.....grab a clue. This was just a phenominal film. Excellent story line, exceptional acting and one of the best endings in history. I read the book when it first came out and this is one of those few where you can't say "the book was better".
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: If you've seen The Green Mile, then this is very similar.
Rating: Summary: Review of Shawshank Review: This is a pretty good movie...but guess what! It can join the ranks of movies that can't stand without punctuating every other sentence with the four letter F word. Oh and also, I've noticed all the movies use God's name in vain, but I've yet to see a movie that denegrades Monammet. How about it...you chicken? You bet. Guess Speilberg and all the others hate Jesus, love gutter black , and are afraid of the Muslims. I also noticed the main villain is a trumpted-up "Christian". Let's hear it for the head-chopping Muslims. BM
Rating: Summary: Great theme - lousy language! Review: I loved the movie on TV, was disappointed with the four-letter words on the DVD. Why can't they make decent family entertainment?
Rating: Summary: Don't Miss the Point Review: This is one of the best movies ever made with superb acting. It is comparible to "Scent of a Woman", "Forrest Gump" and "Rudy" in its portrayal of the triumph of the human spirit. Those who criticize its length, to them I say - IT'S NOT LONG ENOUGH. It personifies Dumas' message of "Wait and Hope" in The Count of Monte Cristo. I watch it at least once every couple of months to remind me of what is important in life. I recommend it without reservation.
Rating: Summary: The Shawshank Redemption is very overrated!!! Review: It's alright to watch ONCE. It's very well done, but painful to sit through this long movie twice. All you do is wait until he tries to escape; the only exciting part of the movie. The narration by Morgan Freeman is just plain goofy. When it starts, 'The first time I laid eyes on him (Tim Robbins)..." I thought, who cares what he is thinking. Also when Tim gets the free beer for some inmates, what's with him just sitting there with that, that smile? Have a beer you idiot, or join the conversation, or relax, don't just sit there staring with that smile. And finally (DON'T READ THIS if you haven't seen it yet) what kind of ending is it where two dudes are together on a beach. Really sounds like fun to me. And what would they talk about? 'Man jail really sucked... Yep, it sure did.' On the positive side the classical music scene was excellent. There's definitely much worse movies, but please don't buy this one. Too many people I know already own it, and it's not worth watching again.
