Rating: Summary: just another scorsese flick Review: dont get me wrong this movie was cool, but it took a long time to actually get started
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE GREATEST FILMS OF ALL TIME! Review: The two masters of gangsters, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, are back from Goodfellas (also an amazing film) and are kicking a** once again in Casino, a film directed by the man himself Mr. Martin Scorsese. Written by the man who wrote the novel, Mr. Nicholas Pileggi. This film is one twist after another and is wonderfully acted, written and directed. Maybe perhaps Sharon Stone was miscast...No, she was capable. This is a very dramatic/violent film that is beautiful in its own way. Joe Pesci being always hilarious and De Niro always being cool, I loved thier characters and Don Rickles is wicked too. If you can't take this kind of film I suggest you stick to Disney films. this is a powerful and effective film that did NOT get recognition at a certain award ceremony. But who cares, its a spectacular film. Once you roll the dice, theres no turning back.
Rating: Summary: A Masterpiece. Review: Endlessly fascinating, director Scorsese's 3-hr. epic of greed, love and ego run amok in Las Vegas in the 70s & 80s is among the finest films in recent memory, if not all time.Casting, direction, music, story, editing are all top-notch. Only "complaint" is that Pesci should have toned it down with the "f" word.Nevertheless, this is a terrific film whose reputation should soar in the years to come. Don't miss it, particularly if you liked Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, The Godfather and The Godfather Part II. Masterpieces all!
Rating: Summary: Compared to other Scorsese, it's just your average flick. Review: Martin Scorsese has directed some of the greatest movies of all time (GoodFellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Mean Streets, etc.), so I expected a whole lot more from Casino. The movie has a good storyline and the soundtrack rocks, but the movie just somehow always seems to drag off someplace. I think the main reason the movie is so off-beat is because of the camera-work. Scorsese has always used stylish camera angles in his films, but in this one he just seems to pick the wrong spots. Not only that, but this movie could give you a headache. DeNiro's character (Sam "Ace" Rothstein) is a fairly interesting character, and I think that DeNiro could win the record for most cigarettes smoked on-screen. Sharon Stone gives a great performance as DeNiro's money-hungry, drug-addicted wife. And Joe Pesci is typically his funny self. But I seriously think that the movie could have somehow been a whole lot better without his squeaky, mousy voice narrating over some parts and constantly unnecasserily keeps using the F-word. I think cursing makes a movie more compelling, but he just got on your nerves. Overall, I guess, the movie isn't really all that bad. It's a 3-hour look at how passionate greed, gullibility, and ultra-violence turned a glitzy empire into a yuppie-infested place that gives Disney Land a run for it's money. The ending is probably the best part. And after you see it, you will think twice before letting someone you don't trust see your aluminum baseball bat.
Rating: Summary: Brutal and compelling Review: This motion picture is, in my opinion, actually a trilogy. The first part deals with the seedy underworld of Las Vegas, of gambling and its aftermath, its dark corners and tricks of its trade. Almost like a documentary. Then it becomes a domestic drama about a couple trying to deal with two totally opposing and dangerous lifestyles. He (the DeNiro character) is a man who's trying to run a casino but has vast mafia ties which threatens his credibility as a legit businessman; his wife (Sharon Stone) wants to remain devoted, enjoying some domestic bliss and a materialistic lifestyle, but is firmly rooted in an ill-fated love-affair with a money-guzzling pimp (James Woods). All of this is complicated by the third portion of this film involving a gangster friend (Joe Pesci) who is not only brutal and murderous, but is giving the local mob a bad name with his mindless crime rampage. This film is not for the fainthearted--but gangster films should not be. One of the many lessons I learned from this is ... Never cheat on blackjack at a mafia-run casino!
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This movie is a lot like Goodfellas, with action suspense, drama and so on. It is a very clever movie with a good storyline. A real winner!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST MOVIE OF THE 1990's! Review: There's just too many good things to say about Casino. Although the movie is kid of long at 3 hours, one never loses interest. The storyline follows Sam "Ace" Rothstein (Robert DeNiro), as a business genius being sent to Las Vegas in 1973 when kids didn't go and everything was run by people you didn't see. Being the brains of the operation, the bosses know that Ace must need muscle to protect him and take care of the dirty work. Everything seems to be running perfectly well until beautiful hustler Ginger (Sharon Stone) Walks into Ace's life. This film brought Robert Deniro, Joe Pesci and master director Martin Scorsese back together with famed writer Nicholas Pileggi (Wiseguy, basis for the 1990 mafia hit Goodfellas). Stone was nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards for her portrayl of the sexy scarlet turned alcoholic. Casino is a must-see and fans of any mob-style movie like the Godfather Trilogy, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, etc. Should not miss this!
Rating: Summary: I rate it 6 stars. Review: Can I rate it 6 stars? If I could, I would certainly do. This is one of the great films I've ever seen. When I like a movie, I also like to see it often and regularly. That's why, without kidding, I've seen this film 50 times or greater. I learnt almost all of it by heart (I only saw the french version, but it's so well translated by France, I almost lost my mind when I heard all the insults of Joe Pesci and the rough lyrics of De Niro and Stone!). This movie is 3-hour long, but it doesn't matter : it looks as if it's one and a half. It's not hard to watch it two times in a row, without stopping. I often do "Casino days", watching the movie over and over, about five or six times, eatin while studiing the text and shouting all the lyrics. And for god sakes, what a music! I immediately bought the two-CD soundtrack (it's really worth the price I payed) and listened to it while working. These great 50-60-70 songs are just filling my mind sometimes, and I can't stop singing them! If you haven't seen it yet, run at the video store. It's a real must!
Rating: Summary: With De Niro and Pesci running Vegas, what could go wrong? Review: Martin Scorsese once again proves that true stories make the best movies. An excellent companion piece to GOODFELLAS, Casino tells the story of Sam "Ace" Rothstein, an oddsmaker for local mob chiefs, who is recruited to run the Tangiers Hotel and Casino. Bringing the mob to Vegas works out in the beginning, until Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone turn up the heat. Told with no holds-barred truth and brutality, Casino is incredibly acted and directed by De Niro, Pesci, and Stone. Excellent supporting roles are also delivered by James Woods, Frank Vincent, and Don Rickles.
Rating: Summary: Puke! Review: The worst thing ever to be shown at the cinema. I puked in my pants and had to go naked home. I almost froze to death, cause I had to walk 20 miles. Don't watch this film - if not for your own sake, do it for me!
