Summary: Depressing, but well acted.
Review: The Academy Award nominations for this film were well deserved. All of the roles were very well acted. I felt for the characters; their joys, sorrows, and trepidations were mine. That's why the ending seemed so depressing to me. And that's just a warning, not a mark against the movie. Stephen King has no qualms about killing off characters, so the ending of this movie wasn't surprising. It would be interesting, though, to read the book and see what changes were made in the movie.If you're looking for a good drama, this will probably satisfy you. Just make sure you have a three hour block of time set aside.

Review: Despite not being a King fan, nor usually in love with 3 hour movies, I found this movie exceptional in its depth, its wonderful, incredible cast, and its delicate handling of such a macabre subject. Hanks is as extraordinary as always, but each member of the cast is just as terrific. A must see. You'll never notice the 3 hours. They'll fly by.

Summary: A Surprising Winner
Review: Even though this movie is three hours long, time seems to fly by as you watch it. I cried and laughed throughout with great reason. Tom Hanks has proven himself as a "Heinz 57" actor: there is no genre he must limit himself too. He's funny in such classics as "Big" and "The Bachelor Party." He's serious in "Philadelphia" and "Forrest Gump." To put is simply, talent runs through his veins. The Green Mile begins many years after the depression. Our main character is older and decides to tell the story of his job as a guard on Death Row, aka, The Green Mile, during the Depression. We meet the other characters, including the obnoxious Percy, and find each actor posessing the ability to portray him or her with great validity. While attempting to avoid giving away the plot, I must admit I was surprised by the twists and turns within the movie. I'm not much of a Stephen King fan, but I find myself wanting to get a hold of this book in order to compare it with the movie. Like many other writers, I fell in love with the character of John Coffey, so amazingly performed by Michael Clarke Duncan. Being a miracle worker, as it turns out, isn't as easy as it seems. This movie also allowed me to review my beliefs when it comes to the death penalty. While I favor it, I think we need to be absolutely sure of a person's guilt before pulling a trigger, injecting a poison, tying a rope or turning a switch. It allowed me the opportunity to re-evaluate circumstantial evidence. To end, I want to make a comment about Percy. I must say I was delighted with the interaction between him and "Wild Bill." Both got what they deserved. The devil inside of me thought of everyone throughout my career who knew someone on the "inside" and received promotions and/or jobs because of that. May they all end up in the same circumstance as Percy!

Summary: One of the few good book to screen movies I have ever seen
Review: At first, I was very weary of this movie. After reading the serial, I felt that Paul Edgecomb should be played by someone very gruff and stern and that John Coffey should be played by someone with a almost mystical look to them like Djimon Hounsou. I am also usually skeptical of movies made from books that I have really enjoyed because usually the movie does not do the book justice. Upon seeing the movie, I realized that all my fears were unfounded. Tom Hanks was perfect casting because though he was not the gruff man I had invisioned, he could play all the tender parts really well. Likewise, Michael Duncan was the perfect Coffey because he not only physically looked the part, but he could just sap you dry of tears when he talked. All in all, this is a great movie, satisfying to those who have read the book and a good see to those who haven't. Just remember to bring tissues, you will need them.

Summary: Very good movie, but slightly overdramatic...
Review: This movie is not as good as the book but compensates for the differences in the way things are portrayed to the viewer in each respective medium very well. I didn't think Hanks's accent was good or necessary and the first time I saw Coffy exhale the bugs I thought 'gimme a break... more corny special effects in a Stephen King movie' and it ends up coming off a slight too sappy/overdramatic to me but otherwise this is a solid movie. Wild Bill is a jerk but is a lot of fun to watch and Coffy did a great job too. I also really liked the actor who played Brutal... he did a great job and should hopefully get more chances to show his talent in the future. The acting as a whole here is superb; Delacroix, Percy, the other main guard, and even the mouse are excellent. This movie makes me want to club baby seals... its that good. Yum.

Review: Well...! I honestly think this is a film for everyone. (Then again, I'm only 13, so I shouldn't have even watched it.) But I'm glad I did. I saw it two nights ago and I'm still thinking about it. In fact, I stayed up half the night crying! I kept telling myself, "It's not real, why are you crying?" But I couldn't stop. I think his name was Michael Duncan? He is one DAMN GOOD ACTOR! Almost the whole movie he's in pain or crying. He does such a good job of it! He plays a character who is huge, strong, and built, yet he takes absolutely no advantage of this. He's timid, quiet, and mild-mannered. When he first arrived at the prison, they asked him if he had any questions. He quietly requested that the lights be kept on after bedtime, because he was scared of the dark. If you're as immature as I am, you'll probably want to smash the TV when you see how cruel and horrible Percy, one of the prison guards, acts. But don't worry, he gets what he deserves at the end. Well, close to the end. But the fact that such a gentle man (Now I'm talking about the guy Duncan plays) is FALSELY accused of murdering two children (He was trying to HEAL them! ) and he still gets punished is excruciating! I was crying my eyes out! Well after watching this, I guarantee you'll still be thinking about it a week later!

Summary: A touching and uplifting movie
Review: This movie is brilliant. The 3-hour running time may seem excessive to some, but it enables the story and characters to be slowly and thoroughly developed. The attention to detail is exquisite and the tale lovingly and absorbingly told. Tom Hanks is in charge of "The Green Mile" where condemned killers are housed in a jail in the 30's. Some of them are pure evil and some, such as the man with a pet mouse, are decent human beings who committed their crimes in a moment of all-too-human emotion. But one of the prisoners, John Coffey, is a magnificent human being housed in the body of a giant. He is a black man wrongly accused of killing two little white girls. He possesses supernatural powers which he uses in a sacrificial way to help others, most notably the wife of the warden who has a terminal illness. The story sounds a bit farfetched in the telling but it is beautifully illustrated in this movie. As wonderful as Tom Hanks is, the best performance is Michael Duncan's as John Coffey. His acting is beyond acting--he is John Coffey in this movie. This is a movie to be watched, savored, enjoyed, and pondered well after the viewing. It would have been a very worthy Academy Award winner.

Summary: OUTSTANDING MOVIE !
Review: This was a movie I had not plan to watch, but today I picked the movie up from the video rental store. I was surprised at how good it was.There is a cliff hanger around every corner. I was also surprised at the lenght of the movie; close to 3 hours. After seeing this film, I plan to read the book for more details. I understand the book got great reviews, and I can see why. Go out and read the book first and then see this great movie. This recommendation is a sure winner for the reader as well as the movie goer. I wish I had not waited so long to view this film. Oh well, enough said here, I am off to buy this book by Stephen King, "THE GREEN MILE". This is story telling at its best.

Summary: Best Movie Of The Year ?
Review: I can see how people would like this movie. But I just could not bear to watch it after reading the book ! The book is 10 times better and if people say the movie is so great then they have not read the book. And I can not belive the book did not get more credit for being so much more magnificent after the movie was such a big hit. But it is deffinately worth watching, but I would have to recomend reading the book before you watch or if you have already watched the movie do yourself a favor and read the book.
