Summary: Very good, but lacking certain elements....
Review: The Green Mile is a wonderful movie. It weaves comedy and sadness beautifully. The emotions are portrayed brilliantly, especially by Micheal Clark Duncan (is that his name....I'm drawing a blank) who plays John, and he is awesome.Yes, the movie is long, but it is one of the only long shows that went by in what seemed like an hour and a half. This isn't one of your usual Stephen King movies, it has less "horror" and gory "violence." What it does have is a powerful and moving story that stays with you. The pain felt by the (sometimes cowardly) characters is felt by you as well; a result of good acting. But what was lacking? I don't know, exactly. The story is funny, sad, interesting...but it was just weird having a drama with a little magic and so much drama and comedy. I would usually enjoy weirdly-combined emotions, but they didn't quite pull that mix off....but VERY close! Nevertheless, The Green Mile is a film that is DEFINATELY NOT TO MISS! Enjoy!

Review: While this film is not a complete waste of time, it would have done better to be about 90 minutes shorter, and maybe throw a plot twist or two in to boot. That it is so predictable really adds to the ennui of the experience.

Review: Both melancholy and uplifting at the same time, Frank Darabont's adaptation of Stephen King's serial novel reveals itself as the best I have seen. Only a few minor components originally in the novel have been excluded. Excellent, just plain excellent.

Review: The first time I watched this movie I was so moved to tears. I hadn't cried so much since watching "The Joy Luck Club". From the very start the gentle giant of the movie is very likable. There's just a gentleness and innocence in him that makes you question how he ended up where he is - on Death Row. The movie has it's mix of tenderness, sadness and humour. It helps when you have a cast which can deliver the right balance of seriousness and lightheartedness when the occasion calls for it. Tom Hanks was perfectly cast in his role for this reason as was Michael Clarke Duncan, who breathed life into John Coffey the man with a very special gift. This is a must see and an essential edition to anyone's library. Buy/see it today! Remember to keep at least one tissue handy.

Summary: One of the best book to movie transfers I've ever seen
Review: I read the 6 part book when it first came out and as with almost any other Stephen King book, I loved it. I've found in the past that the movie almost never lives up to the book from which it came from. After I watched this movie I went back and read the books again. I was amazed. Almost ever line in the movie came staight from the book and the scenes from the movie where perfectly done. If you have read the book, the movie is a must!

Summary: King Does It Again!
Review: Steven King is the master of being able to blend the human element with the supernatural; and The Green Mile proves to be no exception! In the movie, Hanks is in charge of the Death Row cellblock in a depression era Louisiana jail. Into this grim scene walks John Coffey, a giant of a man who is wrongly accused of a double murder. However, Coffey appears to possess powers of a supernatural nature.......! This story starts off slowly, building up steam as it goes along, until it totally mesmerizes you! The acting is superb, the suspense rivetting, and the realistically staged electric chair scenes are sure to blow you away! As in The Stand and The Storm Of The Century, King provides amazing character depth; proving that the "good" guys are not always so "good" - and vice-verca! My opinion? This movie is a MUST for ALL King fans; definitely ONE OF HIS BEST TO DATE! BUY IT!

Summary: Just As Good As The Book!
Review: I had read Stephen King's "The Green Mile" a long while ago and I loved it! Later on I see that there's going to be a movie starring Tom Hanks that's based on King's Book. I eagerly anticipated the movie. I went and saw the movie at my local movie theatre. I was extremely excited when the movie started. I sat there eating my popcorn, while I was brought back to the world that I visited while reading the book. What's different about this movie and all the other movies that I eagerly anticipate before they come out, it that The Green Mile didn't leave me one bit disappointed. This is solid filmaking here: great character development, a few laughs, tragic scenes, and over-all . . . fun. I recommend anyone who likes real, solid, and last but not least, good films to go out and rent The Green Mile on VHS or DVD (which ever you prefer, I like the DVD-just a suggestion).

Summary: Miles To Go Before I Sleep....
Review: I looked forward to THE GREEN MILE because I am a huge fan of THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. I must admit that the running time of MILE was a bit daunting. But after watching it last night (finally!) I have a few comments. The director (Daranbount) is an excellent story teller. He rivals Spielberg, who does a pretty good job of telling a story. I enjoyed the "episodes" which were told in this film. The performances are excellent. I was amazed at the sensitivity of the actor playing "Cofee". Hanks is very solid. And it is so good to see Bonnie Hunt doing solid work as well (*on a side note, her "Bonnie" t.v. series was the most refreshing thing I'd seen on t.v. in years -- she's very talented). My problem with the movie, however, is this: After all the little episodes are put together, I don't believe the film! Especially the "tag" scene at the end. Based on a Stephen King episodic work, the film has a touch of the supernatural -- healing with hands. Yet, in the end, I just didn't buy it. I wanted to. I stayed with it for 3 hours! I just didn't get the pay off at the end. Now, SHAWSHANK had me bawling like a baby. I felt the pain and joy of those men. GREEN MILE did not take me there, and I wanted it to. My second quibble is the message. Just what is this film about? I was left unsure. Is it about our justice system and capitol punishment? It does seem timely what with all the attention that death row criminals are receiving these days -- DNA tests show many are innocent. Is the film about miracles and love? It definitely makes some statements about those topics. I am left unsure. I wanted to REALLY like this film. I must admit that I am left a bit disappointed. GREEN MILE is above and beyond the quality of most mediocre films -- it is not bad. In fact, at several points it hits a wonderful groove and works on all levels. At the end, however, I believe if fails to be the "film classic" I was expecting.

Summary: What would the movie bee without Michael Clarc Dunkan!
Review: One of the years best pictures,with incredebly good actors as we have never seen before! Even better than the Book written by Steven King! This movie scares us to death, when John Coffee appears for the first time and it makes us cry like no other movie when John Coffee wakes the "Green Mile"! The movie shows us how life can be dark and unfair but also a beautyfull gift. The person who does not cry during the movie has a dammed cold heart! A must see!

Review: The movie was done really well but the script and what the story was about was really bad. The story is about cowardism and is really awful in that respect. They could have found ten different things to do in more than one situation. The main character is a coward and I didn't like that at all.
