Rating: Summary: Could have been better. Review: This film didn't exceed my expectations. Perhaps it's because Durabont's previous movie (The marvelous, un-paralled Shawshank Redemption) is my all time favorite. Although this movie is not quite as moving, or exhilerating as Shawshank, it none-the-less is a must see. This movie showcases an all around exceptional cast. Even Graham Greene and Gary Sinise make significant impact in their limited roles. This movie is 4 and a half stars all the way. I reccomend you too see it today.
Rating: Summary: Another King Masterpiece Review: I had put off renting this movie for a while, due to the whisperings of a long, and sometimes boring story told on death row. I now wished I hadn't waited so long. This movie was gripping, drawing you in, making you want to get to know the characters. From the moment Coffey's hulking presence enters the prison, the dark and ominous shadows of the prison, seem softer as if reflecting the gentle giant's purity of heart. Nearing the end of the movie, you feel the anguish the prison guards feel as they are faced with the hardest decision. The plot twists, the depth of the characters, the emotions this movie brings to the surface only adds another jewel to the crown that Stephen King wears as "The King of Horror" After seeing this movie, you will remember John Coffey, like the drink only spelled differently.
Rating: Summary: Not what its cracked up to be! Review: People are right, this movie should not be compared to Shawshank Redemption. In all fairness, they are different movies. But also in all fairness, even in a different genre than Shawshank, The Green Mile was not a very good movie. This King film, unlike his non-supernatural stories such as Shawshank Redemption or The Body (Stand by ME), is more comparable to the likes of his thrillers, but with a twist. Things just got all jumbled up because Tom Hanks ( who has been known lately for dramatic, oscar performances), as well as James Cromwell were thrown in to what essentially was another 6th Sense type movie. If you think thats going to far, think about a man bringing dead things back to life, or the spirit or whatever one calls it flowing from the inmates mouth like the shadow creatures in Ghost! What is one to call that if not supernatural? What The Green Mile essentially is, is just a well acted supernatural thiller! It owes more to King's Shining and Firestarter than it does to Shawshank,Stand by Me or even Dolores Claiborne or Misery.Even then, despite some good performances,it becomes another typical, forgetable Stephen King adaptation. At least to me.
Rating: Summary: Good King Film Review: I saw, this movie 2 times one, in theatres the other on video, good movie and sad...read, the book you'll like, it even if your not a Stephen King fan.
Rating: Summary: AN UTTER TRIUMPH Review: The Best! No that word the best does not describe this movie. The word I am searching for is the Greatest! This movie, "The Green Mile", tells the touching story a miracle on E-Block. Paul Edgecomb the head prison guard on E-Block is played by Tom Hanks. Hanks played this role with perfection and shows of his talent. I cannot do ajustice describeing this movie. I strongly recommend this movie to anyone!
Rating: Summary: One of the best films based from on Stephen King Novel. Review: Director Frank Darabont did a extremly well made film that also touching, funny, shocking images and great performances from all known, made this three hours plus made it worth all watching until the film is over. When the film came out, a lot of critics and some of the audiences complain the film being too long!. Hey did you complian with James Cameron`s Titanic, for being also 3 hours + time, i don`t really think so. I have nothing against Titanic, i did liked the film. Director Darabont is one of those guys, who could make a really good adapation from Stephen King also Director Mike Garris(Psycho 4, Sleepwalkers) is the same as Darabont but for television. Frank did excellent job, directing-The Shawshank Redemption back in 1994, also based on Stephen King short story.Highlight of the film are the performances from the actors, especially-Micheal Clarke Duncan(Armaggedon) as John Coffey, Micheal Jeter(Air Bud)as Edward Del Delacroix, Sam Rockwell(Galaxy Quest) as William Wild Bill Wharton and Doug Hutchison as Percy Wetmore. DVD`s has an strong Widescreen(1.78:1) transer and an fine Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. If you really what to see a really good movie-The Green Mile is certainly one of the best film from King and from 1999. Grade:A.
Rating: Summary: Who said three hours was long for a film? Review: Although this film is over three hours long, the time flies past and you never want it to end. One of only a handfull of films I have seen which made me want to watch it again straight away. Hanks is his usual superb self (although the southern accent brings back 'Gump syndrome') and the rest of the cast back him up very well indeed. Another masterpiece from the man who brought you the excellent 'Shawshank Redemption'this film will have you laughing, crying and shouting. This at the moment is probably the film of the year for me. Excellent. The DVD contains a behind the scenes look with interviews with the stars as well as Stephen King himself. A few more options could have been added as the rest is usual DVD stuff - biographies etc. Still the sound and picture are excellent and even if they weren't - the film makes up for it.
Rating: Summary: The TRUE oscar winner Review: First of all, I was extremely angry that a film like American Beauty beat out a gem like The Green Mile for best picture. Now, that being said, I have nothing but awesome reviews for this movie. This movie was well acted and well directed. Screen favorite Tom Hanks gave another oscar worthy performance (although he wasn't nominated for one) who plays a warden of a prison cell during the days of the Depression. Oscar nominated Michael Clarke Duncan gave a fantastic performance as a prisoner who changes everyone's lives forever. I'm not going to ruin the movie for you, but what I am going to say is the when you watch this movie, you'll feel like you're involved in these people's lives. Duncan got robbed of his oscar, in which he definitely deserved (although Osmont from the Sixth Sense deserved it as well), but nonetheless, this is an excellent movie with brilliant actors and a terrific director. A+++++ all the way.
Rating: Summary: Mixed blessings Review: As in Shawshank Redemption, certain actors make an otherwise sentimental, unrealistic, and occasionally sick story palatable enough to endure. Sam Rockwell is sublime as a hellish hillbilly--the primary reason to recommend this film at all. Michael Clarke Duncan is charismatic and emotionally effective, but the role prescribed him is unjustly caricatured and pasteurized--you'd think his mother was the housemaid in 'Gone With the Wind' or something. It feels unethical to beat up on the representation of good, virtuous men in a film, but the prison guards (including Tom Hanks) are Johnny one-notes, like four sides of the same cardboard box, barring one demented co-worker. Stephen King's plot telegraphs from miles away--you can map out all the pending horrors and retributive justices within the first 20 minutes, but the director takes over 3 hours to wrap it all up. Having said all that, it's very watchable and balanced cinematographically, and is pretty good popcorn entertainment--the actors have done an amazing job considering what they were given.
Rating: Summary: "They died because of their love to eachother!" Review: Who did not cry whe he heard those words out of John Coffe's mouth before he walked down the Mile? This is one of the rare Pictures which is based on a Bestseller and which is even better than it! Every Single Character was performed exactly like King described them! Every single one! The Actors which performed their Role were so well chosen by the casting team! No one could replaced them! Its the best movie of this decade! With the most talented Newcomer of this decade:"Michael Clark Dunkan"! Its a movie whos gonna scare you and make you cry! That should have been an "8 Oscars"-Picture! The DVD got some real great Features as: Making of..., theatrical Trailers and lot more! Buy it its worth the money you'll spend on it! Thats for sure! Tom Hanks in his best role ever! A must see!
