Summary: I really didnt want to like this movie...but I did
Review: This is an example of an actor, Tom Hanks, who underplays his role most of the time that when he does come to a highly emotional scene, it is that much more powerful. Nothing is more evident of this than when he is with Coffey in more than a few memorable scenes. Duncan is so convincing, so real, that it becomes a chore to remember that he is just an actor. There is a dignity in his character that becomes indellible. He deserved an Oscar. Hanks, who in my mind, was the finest actor of the 1990's, is the heart of the movie, from beginning to end. The character is the creation of Stephen King, who does an extraordinary job in his novels and who is eternally underrated by the literary community. But it is Hanks who breaths him into life. In the final scenes, there is such anguish, such turmoil, a dichotomy of emotions on the screen but an absolute one for the audience that it stirs, compounds, and soars to a very real, unforgettable experience. In the end, there is an overpowering feeling of melancholy, nostalgia, of things gone past and of things never to be. I truly enjoyed and admire this film on every level. It is another example of the talent Stephen King has. Stand by Me, The Stand, Shawshank Redemption, Shining and now this, Green Mile, all stand as wonderful movies that more than make up for the bad adaptations of his works. Highly recommended.

Summary: Too heavy-handed
Review: Well made film and I would have probably liked it more if it hadn't been so heavy-handed. The inexorably evil prison guard and the epilogue offended my intelligence so much that it clouded everything else in the movie. I can see why it's a hit with the audience though. I can see how it renews the faith of many, especially during this era in which it has become hip to be ironic and cynical. Of course, "Magnolia" also deals with faith and grace and divine intervention but it did not come anywhere near "The Green Mile" in terms of box-office receipts, which goes to show that people still like their spiritual messages simplified, and sugar-coated.

Summary: amazing movie
Review: This is a very touching and emotional story. The Green Mile takes place in a prison, in E Block. A mysterious, monstorous inmate arrives(John Coffey), with an amazing healing power. he is accusing in murdering two little girls. Michael Clarke Duncan from an Acadamy Award and Tom Hanks are outstanding. Watch it with open heart from begining till end and it will bring your heart to tears. You won't even realize how the 3 hours of the movie passed by.

Summary: sledgehammer american propoganda
Review: After seeing The Shawshank Redemption which was an amazing story about the human spirit with believable characters I thought this film would be equally enjoyable. I wonder if I am alone in thinking that the whole story of the mouse fairytale of the mouse city in florida wasn't just american myth making about disneyland and micky mouse at it's worst. And all the religeous connotations of the John Coffey (JC) character being an almost straight representation of Jesus Christ a bit too much to swallow for someone who likes their symbolism in films too bit a bit more liberally chosen and wouldn't have chosen to watch the film if it was advertised as a moralistic tale almost straight out of the bible. I just felt a bit manipulated that's all, I'm not averse to this type of film I just think it needed a bit more of a balancing voice really.

Summary: A Must Buy!
Review: The Green Mile is definatly on my top 3 lists. The movie touched my heart in such a way, no other movie has done. It has many lessons to teach you. It is a heart-warming story that I will watch over and over again. It touched my heart so much that it was the first time i had ever cried in a movie. Michael Clarke Duncan got robbed from an Acadamy Award. Him and Tom Hanks are OUTSTANDING! If you get this, it will be the best decision.

Summary: A brilliant prison film
Review: From the first frame right through the final cut, The Green Mile is an astonishingly powerful, suspensefully crafted picture that is extremely hard to fault. Nominated for 4 Academy Awards, the movie has at its centre a moving performance by Michael Clarke Duncan, one that left me numb a little while afterwards. He pulls off a brilliant showcase with Tom Hanks, who has stunning screen prescense. The script is charmingly sad and brillianty planned, while Frank Darabont (who also wrote) gives very plausible efforts in his directing. Although the result is a film that misses the best film ever made quality of 1994's The Shawshank Redemption, also by Darabont, this is still an elegant picture that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled.

One last thing, ignore the bad-mouthings about the length of The Green Mile. I didn't mind it, and it has such a high level of intrigue and utter superbness that 3 hours will feel like 1 to you too.

Summary: ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC DRAMA
Review: WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE THE MELLOW DRAMATIC BEAUTY OF THIS AWESOME MOVIE. IT HAS A GREAT PLOT, EXTREMELY WONDERFUL SCRIPT, COOL DIRECTION, AND BRILLIANT PERFORMANCES. WHY THIS MOVIE FAILED TO WON AN OSCAR IS COMPLETLY UNBELEIVABLE. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT WATCH IT WITH OPEN HEART FROM BEGINING TILL END AND IT WILL BRING YOUR HEART TO TEARS, GUARANTEED. IT HAS ALL THE INGREDIENTS OF AN EMOTIONAL MASTERPIECE, DO NOT MISS IT AT ANY COST. CHAO!
