Rating: Summary: Ding Dong the witch is dead Review: Well, how bizarre was that? It was pretty bizarre. It's one of those alternative kind of films you like to see every now and then, just to realise how bizzare it is.There were actually a few laughs included, but you sort of don't know what to think, so you just sit there with a puzzled look on your face. It was good how everyone's stories conflicted so much, and were so biased, that you knew everyone was full of carp. Danny Devito didn't make use of his sense of humour, but SNL's Will Ferrell did, so that wasn't too bad. Casey Affleck was quite irritating but I guess he was meant to be. See this film if you don't feel like seeing attractive or smart people on the big screen!
Rating: Summary: Drowning Mona cast and crew Review: I saw the movie just because it had a good cast like DannyDevito, Bette Midler, Neve Campbell etc. but the movie turned out to be a flop. It was so boring that I had fallen asleep in the middle of the movie. There was no suspense, no comedy, no drama, no action. The movie could have been filmed minus these casts. Normally the type of cast would talk good or bad about the movie. But this movie was no way near. In all it was a waste of time.
Rating: Summary: Quite entertaining all star cast black comedy Review: The movie is about a local sheriff (Danny Devito) investigates the mysterious death of a local (Bette Midler) which was hated by almost everybody in the town. I would have given it 5 stars if not for the unsatisfying ending. But the movie isfun. It will keep you watching and something funny pops in every few minutes to keep you smiling. All of the stars give decent performances. The picture quality of the DVD is very good and so is the 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. Strangely, for this movie, the sound design put the songs to the rear channel only and in stereo but I like it. It it a fun little movie that didn't get deserved attention in its theatrical run.
Rating: Summary: A complete and Utter failure and waste of time. Review: I hated this movie. I came in thinking I would be thoroughly pleased, but I was thoroughly disgusted. This movie is not only dumb, awkward, lengthy, boring, trivial, and ridiculously unrealistic, but it is also lude and sick. I don't want to remember this movie, and I wish it would have been better. Well, if you're still with me on this review, then let me explain the story. Mona, played by Bette Midler is off on a normal leisurly drive when she is headed towards a cliff and her brakes stop working, so she plunges off to her death. I thought it was kind of sick, and that started the movie off badly for me. After people realize she's dead, most of the people are actually happy because they hated her so much. Now, it may be regular for people to hate each other, but most people would not be happy when someone close to them died, even if they did not like them. So, then you start to meet some of the characters, a shy man somewhere in his 20's, his shy fiance, a badly dressed and thoroughly irratating waitress and Mona's wife who is having an affair with the waitress. Doesn't that sound like an appealing cast of characters? (Laughs sarcastically.) Sounds bad right now doesn't it? It gets worse. The whole plot is ridiculously impossible and just makes the viewer feel embarrased and angry that they payed money for this utter waste of time. I won't delve into the more disgusting parts, but if you want to know the main reason that this mvoie is not funny? SOMEONE DRIVING OFF A CLIFF AND PLUNGING TO THEIR DEATH IS NOT FUNNY!!!!!!!! If you like Bette Midler, see First Wives Club, if you like Danny Devito, see Twins or maybe even Junior, and if you like Neve Campbell, see the Scream movies. But at all costs, avoid this movie, it's completely terrible and a waste of time. On top of that, I wish I could have given it 0 stars.
Rating: Summary: Seriously Underated Review: This film is one of those that for some reason you can't turn away like Breakfast of Champions. Not for those who don't enjoy dark humor, I loved it. Some of it was predictable but what film doesn't have that? Definitely worth viewing.
Rating: Summary: I really envied Mona - she didn't have to watch it. Review: This movie is more than bad - it is a serious insult to the consumer, somewhat like selling Firestone tires, Pintos, or maggot-infested meat. It is not remotely funny and the tired visual jokes only provoke a feeling of embarrassment for the actors involved in this turkey. Unfortunately, I watched this movie one week after viewing Magnolia, another waste of time. These two movies have degraded contemporary film writing and direction more than Ed Wood could have ever done in his lifetime.
Rating: Summary: Unusual Black Comedy with full of plot twists. Review: This was film called by critics, one of the worst films of this year, why?. This is clearly better than some of the films, i`ve seen of the pictures of 2000. Drowning Mona is better than The Beach and Scream 3 and Some another films. This is a very underrated film. Director Nick Gomez makes the picture, the filming style unusual for a black comedy. This is surprisingly good movie and is full of fun plot twist and always keeps you guessing, how did killed Mona. The good thing about the film is Cast and Story almost half of it is told is flashbacks, about the crazy and weird stories about Mona. Director Gomez is doing tribute to films like the 1986 comedy Ruthless People(also starring DeVito and Milder) and Someway to the mystery suspense thriller to the 1995-The Usual Suspects. Don`t listen to the critics on this one. This is a fun black comedy to watch. Grade:A-.
Rating: Summary: Not all that funny Review: Great cast, somehow not quite either with the material, or the material wasn't for them (probably not for anybody for that matter). The Yugo joke gets old pretty fast. That's about the only funny thing I remember in the film. Black comedy can be funny, but this film just wasn't funny.
Rating: Summary: WHY IS THIS FILM CRITICALLY PANNED? Review: This film is, so far, my favorite one. It's hilarious in every way and a all-star cast makes it even better. This just may be the best film made, and it's easily the best comedy film ever made. If you want to laugh for eternity at the funniest film ever made, buy this movie. I watched this film on pay-per-view in a Cleveland, Ohio hotel room a few weeks after it came out and it was amazingly funny. Is it possible for movies to be funnier than even the most hilarious real-life happenings? Yes. This is the one.
Rating: Summary: DROWNING MONA IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE Review: Drowning Mona is what I consider to be the best comedy I've ever seen. With an all-star cast, each scene has something funny about it. I'm going to tell you some of the funniest moments so you'll see it: In a series of flashback sequences that show some of the ways a main charachter's hand could have been decapitated, all involving him reaching for a beer. Then there's a scene where Bette Middler takes a golf club and does wonders to a car- there's too many funny moments to mention. I strongly recommend this film for anybody looking for the funniest film ever made. Rated PG-13 for violence, profanity, mature themes and sexual content. And for the queasy: There's a vomiting scene in this film, its only downside.
