Rating: Summary: Top 10 movies of all time Review: This is one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. The story is both tragic and beautiful. It's very moving and also includes some of the most unforgetable dialogue of any movie ever made. I never get tired of watching this movie. Please see it at least once.
Rating: Summary: My all-time favorite movie Review: No matter how many times I watch this movie, it will always be my favorite. This is the essential Paul Newman movie. Luke is the perfect Everyman; someone with whom we can all identify. He finds the best in every situation...while in prison, he does not dwell on the negative, but passes the time lightheartedly. While doing this, he also shows the despair of prison life. Combining these two elements is difficult, but Newman perfects the combination and creates one of the best movies of all time.
Rating: Summary: luke is jesus Review: in cool hand luke, luke can be compared to jesus in many ways. he had twelve followers, layed on the table after eating eggs inthe form of a cross. after that, dragline is ike judas, the betrayer of jesus. i could go so in depth about this, but you'll have to see the movie and find it for yourself.
Rating: Summary: You just gotta love Luke. For better or for worse. Review: Cool Hand Luke is just great, classic viewing entertainment. Paul Newman's spirit of non-conformity is so powerful. When we see him smiling in that opening freeze-frame, That classic frame, right then and there we automatically know we're dealing with a man who's head-and-shoulders above the rest. The system will never understand him. There's this feeling that's he's always got something up his sleeve for them. And we see that. There's a quality of life in him, that, even by the end, is never extinguished. Because his legacy carries on. Here's a man who won't betray who he is. Refuses to be catagorized. You gotta love Luke for who he is. The system can't keep him down. He's going to keep going..... push the limits......
Rating: Summary: The ultimate prison movie Review: It' a great movie: well-written, well-acted. I honestly can't think of anything that could have made it any better! Often, I'll drive by a road gang here in AZ, and holler out the window: "Wipin' it off, here, Boss", which elicts a laugh from the men.
Rating: Summary: This is the film Newman should've gotten the Oscar for. Review: NEWMAN SPARKLES IN A ROLE THAT SHOULD'VE GARNERED HIM BEST ACTOR AT THE OSCARS. HIS OSCAR FOR COLOR OF MONEY WAS BASED LARGELY ON HIS BODY OF WORK OF WHICH COOL HAND LUKE PLAYED A HUGE ROLE. THE FILM IS FULL OF IMAGERY (HARD BOILED EGG SCENE) AND EXCELLENT LINES SUCH AS "CALLING IT YOUR JOB OLE HOSS SURE DON'T MAKE IT RIGHT," A LINE USED BY JOHN MELLENCAMP IN ONE OF HIS SONGS. SEE THIS MOVIE. YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
Rating: Summary: This film communicates well Review: A classic film about life in a southern chain gang. The part that kept me amused yet sick to my stomach was watching Paul Newman trying to eat fifty hard boiled eggs. It couldn't tell if he was really sick to his stomach or just good acting.
Rating: Summary: My favorite movie of all time Review: Who can forget that Luke smile? Paul Newman and George Kenedy give the best performances of their careers (which is saying something). I had to break up with a girl once because she didn't cry at the end of the movie.
Rating: Summary: Paul Newman's best role. Review: COOL HAND LUKE is a memorable film on many levels. First of all, the character of Lucas Jackson is so immediately likeable that if you watch this film, you will always respect Paul Newman. That's a good thing: he's a brilliant actor. But the best thing about this movies is the Christ-metaphor. Luke plays his "cool hand" throughout the movie with no apology to the the powers that be which constrict his life and eventually end it. His friends and eventual disciples, George Kennedy included, admire him but can't understand or connect with the spirit inside him which invariably send Luke up against authority. You just watch Luke go up to the cross, trash-talking God all the way. He fought the law, and the law won. (Always does). Watch for the Christ imagery. That and the implications for non-violent protest (a la Gandhi and King) resonate throughout this classic, enjoyable flick.
Rating: Summary: one of the best of the best Review: this is a classic in the true sense of the word. The very definition of cool is portrayed by in this movie.
