Summary: Francis master saga
Review: Francis ford coppola created one of the most thrilling movies of all time during the time of 1972 & 1974. With his love of filmmaking he set the rules and showed how it was possible to make a stunning experience in the theaters. Actors like De niro, Pacino, Keaton and Talia Shire dont make the movies less bad. The Godfather collection will echo thru eternity, theres no doubt about that...

Review: I have been waiting for this release since I got my DVD player. .... The absolute grandeur of The Godfather makes this one of the greatest film sagas of all time and I think it would be a shame for any fan to not own this cinematic masterpiece. Even if you're not a fan of part III, this is still a must have flick. Enjoy it all over again!! Show some respect to The Godfather.

Summary: And the Spanish subtitles?
Review: I can't believe it. We've wait for so long to see the release, one of the greatest movies of all time, and they don't include spanish sub or dub.

I'm a great fan of this production, I've seen it so many times I can't remember, I have even seen the release for the TV, with extra scenes that I hope are included here.

I think these movies are extremely great, but please understand my dissapointment, I intend to see this with my family, and they don't speak english, so I thought Paramount was going to release a cool version with multiple subtitles or dubs. I can't thing of a worst waste of DVD, whose best feature is to include multiple subs and dubs. It's even worst because Paramount has the subtitles already, because they've released a spanish version in VHS.

I hope they'll reconsider it, and will include spanish subtitles, they have plenty of thime.

Summary: Crass commercialism at its height
Review: I love the movie (5 stars) but this HIGH PRICED DVD is crass commercialism at its height. The producers simply wanted to cash in on the marketability of the Godfather mystique. If they are true film lovers they should release the movie WITHOUT the old and recycled documentaries at a more reasonable price and release a special edition for those who want to waste their time on second-rate documentaries.

DVD lovers watch out... if this turns into a hot seller, expect to see more of the modern classics packaged in the same gouging way.

Summary: An American Classic......
Review: First of all, let me say that I have not actually viewed this DVD collection (it hasn't been released yet), but I am confident that Mr. Copolla will present us with a DVD version that is consistent with his usual excellent standards. I have been waiting for this DVD set for a long time, as I believe that the Godfather trilogy represents a landmark work of art which mirrors the rise and fall of the Great American Dream.

I would like to address those who believe that the Godfather Saga, i.e. the televised, (and later-released VHS tape set) chronologically edited version to be superior to the original films. While this version may be easier to follow (in terms of characters and story) than the original flashback version of Godfather II, I much prefer the original films, as they provide a counterpoint, contrasting view of Michael and the life of his father, Don Corleone. The first film told the story of Don Corleone's final years, with the subsequent handing over of power to the next generation, represented by Michael Corleone. Godfather II, a much more ambitious achievement, extended the theme of honor and "family" commitment served by violence. The interplay of Michael's machinations with his father's challenges as a budding man of power is a cinematic device designed to illuminate the differences of character between the two men. The times in which the two men live also determine their respective fates. Thus, Don Corleone, through his code of honor and relatively simple options, rises to power; Michael, on the other hand, faces much more complicated choices. The same ruthlessness which made the Brando character successful is ultimely the ruin (in moral terms) of Michael Corleone. It is this dichotomy which the Godfather II film brilliantly displays with its flashback device.

As for Godfather III, I believe that Mr. Copolla made an excellent film, keeping in mind that he would be hard pressed to live up to the reputation of the first two films. Except for Pacino and Keaton, the characters in this film are all new, so some "purists" may have found fault with the performances, etc. merely by comparison with GI and GII. However, it stands on its own as a tragedy of Shakespearian proportions.

By the way, I applaud Mr. Copolla et al for the inclusion of the various "bonus" DVD features (which they certainly didn't have to produce, in order to "sell" this product). October 9th, 2001 seems a long ways away....
