Rating: Summary: From Vito's violent beginning to Michael's tragic end. Review: I watched the entire DVD set of "The Godfather" trilogy over a long weekend, and it made for one of the most engrossing, entertaining times I've spent at home alone. The first two films, certainly, are the greatest of the series. The third is lacking, but not a disaster, and serves as a fitting conclusion to the story, for the most part. What the films have, though, is one of the greatest ensemble casts ever assembled. Brando, Pacino, Cazale, Caan, Duvall, Keaton and De Niro come together in the epic story of the violent rise and the epic, disturbing downfall of the Corleone family. Though the third film, in which the tragedy of Mary's death is downplayed somewhat by Sofia Coppola's inept performance (if only Winona Ryder hadn't had that nervous breakdown and created an emotional, compelling Mary that we could've actually cared for...), is a disappointment, the overall story is a grand one. The extras on the DVD are welcome, particularly the documentary detailing the behind-the-scenes troubles on the first and second films. Coppola, on the commentary, comes off as a bit of an egomaniac, but that bravado of his is wholly earned. This is a must-have for any collector.
Rating: Summary: We're not made of money, ya know Review: The Godfather movies are masterpieces...especially parts 1 and 2. However...what's with the price??? There is only ONE bonus disc (whoop de doo!) and lets just say the picture quality is not the best that it could be. Each movie sold seperately would be about twenty, so all three of these movies would add up to about sixty at the most. However, you can not buy each movie seperately, they make you buy all three at once! They're milking all of us for our money and most of us are falling for it. It's such a crime that they think they can get away with scamming us.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Movies Ever Made Review: How can I possibly summarize the Godfather movies in one review? I don't think it's possible. I have seen the first two parts so many times that I'm still waiting for the point at which I can't watch them anymore, but I don't think I'll ever get there. With each new viewing, you pick up on something new, an allusion, a line, an action. If you've seen the Godfather movies, and appreciate good movies for what they are, I doubt you will refuse buying this DVD set. I would pay the full price just for the second Godfather alone. But I am going to assume here that you haven't seen the Godfather movies and explain to you why you should. I don't believe that any movie has ever gotten as much hype as the Godfather movies have, and I still believe that it is underrated. Too many people have not seen this movie. But with its flawless acting (Brando, Cazale, Caan, Duvall, Shire, and the best of them all, Pacino), a perfect script, memorable characters (the Corleones, Clamenza, Roth, Solozzo, Mancini), a great great score, and one of the best directors of all time (Coppola), I have to pity them. Buy this. The greatest movies ever made EVER! The three of them add up to about nine hours of pure Godfather. I wish they were longer.
Rating: Summary: Stunning Review: Rarely is there a DVD collection that is a true, "must have." This Godfather trilogy is it. This collection means you can show your children, your grandchildren, even your parents how the Corleone family started, how it became glorious, and how it adjusted to modern times. The first two movies are clearly in the top 10 movies of all time. Rarely do we get to witness these type of movies, movies that are the caliber of "Silence of the Lambs," or the "Lord of the Rings trilogy. You have to get this collection of DVD's. While this series is not for the faint of heart, there are so many lessons of leadership, loyalty, and family, there is something for everyone. I highly recommend this for your DVD collection. Rating: Summary: The Rise and Fall of Michael Corleone Review: So many things have been said and written about the Godfather Saga, that it is hard to come up with something original to say about the movies. I guess what strikes me the most is the way Michael totally missintrptets his role as the head of the family. And Family is the key word here. He takes what his father has built and destroys it because he forgets what family means. That one thing is why The Godfather movies are so good. Coppola in showing the rise and fall of Michael Corleone makes a a point of what absolute power does to a person. A Masterpiece of film making. A+++++++
Rating: Summary: THE REASON PEOPLE CAN CALL A MOVIE "MASTERPIECE" Review: I cant tell you how much, this movie series is a piece of perfection. Although the third movie dragged the trilogy off track a bit, this is still the GREATEST movie series of all time. ...
Rating: Summary: The most widely renowned crime dramas in cinimatic history. Review: Director Frances Ford Coppela is know for good films like Apacalypse Now as well as other known films but nothing will ever compare in his film history to the recognition and true brilliance of the Godfather legacy , that both for him The Godfather and The Godfather:Part 2 has been paraised by his peers , by reviwers , by filmgoers ,by the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sceinces and even the biggest of them all the American Film Institute infact both The Godfather and it's sequel are both on the top ten AFI movies of all time. Not to mention the first film is the one film that made a full fleged overnight household name out of Al Pachino as the role of Micheal Corleone that has been the most rememberd of his career. The Godfather:In this first and most respected film winner of Best Director(Coppela)and Best Picture of 1972,introduces us to the Corleone family with Don Corleone(Marlin Brando), who has been in a failed assasination attempt by Sulutzo and Bruno Tatalia wich sends his son Michel Corleone(Al Pachino) on the run from Sulutzo until he brings the idea forward to the family to make a hit on Sulutzo and his cop accomplice, when he succesfully makes the hit he is now told from his family to be in Sicaly for a year.Tragically Don Corleone passes away as well as a hit on his brother Sonny(James Caan),Micheal makes sure that he settles business with the 5 familys that have been threatning his family by carefully ordering hits on all of them to place Micheal in position to be the new Godfather of his family. The Godfather:Part 2: Again Frances Ford Coppela does the impossible and his sequel earns Best Director for him and Best Picture for the film a feat that has not been eaqueld. In this film Micheal is coming to grips with his newfound power as Godfather of the family untrusted by some and stroghanded by others evading an attack on his family he decides to go away on business to Cuba,Meanwhile we also see the rise to power of his father Don Vito Corleone this switches back and fourth from period to period explaining the simliaritys between him and his father as Micheal trys to negotiate a business deal with hyman Roth he realizes that there might be a snitch in his family,as Micheal accends more and more to power so to does his father but dealing with the start of the Cuban civil war and the government court hearings to find out anything about the mob as well as a war between familys Micheal has just as many problems as his father did when he was younger and older as the film progresses, but the real problem that Micheal finds out is his brother Friedo who is the rat and Micheal deals with it as he does with any problem that dissapoints him get rid of it even if it means his own family member. The Godfather:Part 3:Shunned by critics but is a great finish to a great lagacy,Micheal now is about the same age as his father just before he died and the same mindset as his father Avoding violence when he can and trying to get his family legitimate at all costs by building a new international business firm with the Vatican and problems with an untrustworthy family enimey Joey Zazo cause stress and sickness for Micheal who wishes to protect his son and his beautiful daughter(Sofia Coppela)but when things start falling apart and an attack on all the familys and Micheal is set up it brings Micheal right into something that Micheal wished not to get into a blood fued between familys when the order is given by Micheal's sister(Talia Shire) to make a hit on Joey Zazo it put's everything into play for the fall of the Corleone's empire but the one thing that Micheal was not seeing was that his family is being targeted and his daughter is the price for his sins wich Micheal wishes and thinks thouroghly in the film were the fault of his familys disfuntional lives with his family fallen apart Micheal bears the same out come as his father and dies of natural causes ending the legacy of the Corleone family. The Godfather features disk:With documentaries and traliers and countless interviwes with actors and cast and crew and deleted scenes in chronlogical order a family tree as well of production notes stills and an hour and a half making of documentary on this extrodinary legacy this disk gives you everything you wanted to know on The Godfather's history from script to screen to praise everything. Rating: Summary: Worth watching it more then once Review: I got this movie about 6 months ago. I believe that one way or another I did watch the movie more then 4 times. This is not becasue the story is thrilling. The way the Director made this move is really attempting to watch. There are also Marlon Brando, Al Paccino making the move really attractive. There are many important notes that apply to the real life as well. Sometimes I got the feeling that the movie changed my way of thinking and behaving.
Rating: Summary: Masterpiece Review: Film making rarely reaches this level. While many were dissapointed in Part 3,the final install ment of triologies (think Star Wars) often pale in comparison. The middle segments are usually the strongest. If 1 & 2 didn't exist, critics would have been kinder to 3. Copolla seems to want to tie up the loose ends when in reality those ends still dangle before us and tantillize us even today (think Sopranos). The DVD set is well constructed and vast;ly superior to the 25th Aniv. VHS edition
