Summary: Thesis is great, but i can't say as much for the dvd.
Review: It goes without saying Thesis is a very good thriller. It starts off like your usual movie, but grows and develops into something far more complicated (not to confuse this with "complex"), and far more intriguing.
If you're reading this dvd review, i'm taking it you've seen the movie, so i'll just proceed to describe the dvd itself.
While Fight Club or Snatch are -good dvds- (regardless of the movie itself), Thesis is the exact opposite. It's a joke.
There are absolutely NO features (not even trailers, which is sort of the norm). You can't turn the subtitles off, which is just such a darned shame. The keepcase sheet is shameful, but it's way better than the printing on the DVD itself.. which looks like a tasteless, simple and -cheap- attempt at a cd print. Also, since it's "Regionless" (which isn't either good or bad for me), the encoding is different than any other dvd.. and dunno about the rest, but my dvd player can't display it's running time.
Thesis is the sort of dvd you'd think they threw together minutes before mass-producing it.
Anyways, it's the only dvd version you'll ever find (to date), and you're still getting one hell of a movie, a tad on the expensive side, but great none the less.

Summary: Worth the time
Review: It has your suspense, gore, slight eroticism, interesting characters and all that you could want from a first time director. While I didn't walk away thinking my life had been changed, I did think that being entertained while watching something that was making a social critique is better with believable character interaction and good directing. The three major characters worked well together presenting some interesting and at times exhilarating dynamics. I am also very impressed with Amenabar's contributions, writing and directing a movie is an impressive feat for anyone, especially making it enjoyable to sit through in your first major production. I recommend it; it's worth your time.

Summary: Buena Pelicula

Summary: Excelente pelicula, mala presentación

Summary: Una buena pelicula ~ mi favorita

Summary: Great.
Review: Last year, I rented this movie and sat in front of the TV with my notebook in my hand, planning to study and watch at the same time. Five minutes into the movie, the notebook was completely forgotten. This is one of those movies that traps you and won't let go - exciting, fast-paced, and scary. Some of the scenes from the movie keep haunting me. If you buy this you won't be sorry.

Summary: The Best Spanish Film I've Seen
Review: Reviewer: Kris Bol from Marshfield, Wisconsin USA I saw this film in Spain while I was visiting and this was the best film yet. The horrific twists and turns that this movie takes you through is amazing! First you think one thing, then something makes you think another! Fabulous and a no-turn-off movie! You want to hide your eyes, but don't want to because you're afraid of missing an important piece of the movie!

Summary: Stuck In My Mind
Review: The fact that the snuff film industry actually exists is scary enough. This film is a chilling look at peoples obsession with money and violence. I won't go into the plot, but I will say that all fans of psycological thrillers, mysteries and horror should check this one out. The acting was appropriate, and it was very well directed by Amenebar (who went on to direct the US hit "The Others"). This one will stick with you long after the credits have passed.

Summary: poor quality dvd and some flaws in film
Review: The picture quality seemed to be a little substandard on my DVD of Thesis, or possibly this is a faithful translation of the original material.
The movie itself is nowhere near as good as abre los ojos, and treads on mostly familiar ground, although it is possible to see the way the craft has progressed from here.
There are some pretty big holes in the story which are best just left alone, the twists and second guessing are without doubt the highlight, and there is doubt in your mind right until the end.

Summary: Genio! Genio total!
Review: The protagonist finds her thesis advisor dead of an asthma attack suffered while watching a video tape that he had found in the basement of the university's movie library. She pockets the tape and calls the police. At home, she finds that the tape is a snuff movie and the victim is a fellow student who has been missing for months. Possession of the tape puts her in an unenviable position, and neither ensuing events nor the ending is predictable.

Maximum appreciation is achieved if one understands European Spanish, but the subtitles---British slang and all---do the job. The dialogue of Chema, especially, the offbeat, flawed, likeable geek, is a treat for the ears.

When I was a teenager in 1960's Spain, I had access only to movies given the imprimatur by the family-oriented Franco regime. Brigitte Bardot movies were banned; foreign movies were cut and dubbed; Spanish movies were maudlin pap, and Thesis would NEVER have been made. Under these Falangistas a great deal of suppressed genius went into inventing emabarrassing diseases that Francisco Franco was rumored to suffer.

Since 1975---the year that Franco did Spain the favor of dying---genius has burgeoned , and Thesis is a prime example.

Eat your heart out, Francisco!
