Rating: Summary: It has it's good and bad points... Review: Good point: it's Fake on DVD! Bad point: The English language translation, and Dee's horrid, annoying voice. Good point: the story has been fleshed out a little bit more and is somewhat more satisfying than in the manga. Bad point: lots of kissing left out. Darn. Good point: the addition of the wto female tourists as foils for Ryo and Dee. Bad point: even without reading the manga, they practically had a neon "doomed" sign above their heads. Point of interest: whoever did the animation, used a real place in England for the setting. The minute I saw the hotel, I said, "That's in Derwentwater, in the Lakes District!" It looks exactly like the hotel I stayed at. This suspicion was confirmed by the girl with the Peter Rabbit souvenir (the Lakes District was the home of Beatrix Potter.). Like others have said, if you're a fan of the manga, this is a must see. If not...well, there is better anime out there.
Rating: Summary: If my hubby likes it, what can I say? Review: I bought it on a lark, seeing it at a gay/lesbian display at the video store. While I'm not a top anime fan, I thought I'd see what I thought. It's actually a refreshing kind of treatment, (though I have to tweak the plot -- lots of people dying and only now someone's looking into it? Perhaps that's a Japanese supposition about the British, but it doesn't really fly.) I enjoyed the characters and most of the scenes. My only real problem is I didn't see any other episodes around here or in the stores -- these sort of characters would be interesting in multiple types of situations, especially with the sexual tension going on. And as I said, my hubby watched it the next day and thought it was a riot. He usually doesn't like the anime and movies I like (I tend to like comedic, scifi and fantasy), so it must have something going on.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I didn't think I'd end up saying this but Fake has got to be one of the best animes I've ever seen and I've seen a lot. It has everything! Romance, action, comedy, suspense, and some of the most lovable characters I've come across in a long time. This movie has two story lines. One follows Dee and Ryo's relationship. You'll really find yourself caring about these two guys and actually rooting for Dee to go all the way with him. But unfortunately it never happens because the second story line interferes with it. I really thought the movie would be ruined with this second story line but it was actually very good. A hotel worker's daughter is killed by Japanese men so he takes his anger out on all Japanese people by killing them. This kind of thing happens in real life with racial stereotyping. So Dee and Ryo have to put their romance on hold and investigate the murders. If there is any justice in the world there will be a Fake 2 and it will focus more on Dee and Ryo's love for each other. There could be action but not so much next time. I never wanted the movie to end. I could watch these guys all day.
Rating: Summary: A Crooked Comedy Review: I found this story very amusing. I have never read the manga based on this story but the plot was still easily understandable. I found the anime clever and its staying in my collection for good. The DVD doesn't have any interesting extra's besides dialoge switching. Nothings perfect.
Rating: Summary: It's about time! Review: I have been (im)patiently waiting for this to come out on DVD as well as see how the dubbing was done. All I really want to say is that it is terrific. Sure it was done with the idea that you have been following the manga but the storyline does a very good job of giving enough background info to where you can keep up. I have to say that the man who dubbed Ryo was a great choice; Dee was good too, but for me I just imagined something a little different. One can hope that the adventures of Dee & Ryo/Randy come to the screen again soon.
Rating: Summary: yaoi's best Review: I have never before read a yaoi manga or watched a yaoi anime. But I have to say that I was really impressed with Fake. I was intrigued by the cover of the DVD and decided to chance it. Fake will now be a permanent memeber of my collection. Even if homosexuality is not your thing, Fake is worth a look. It treats shonen ai with care and a GREAT deal of humor. The art is fantastic and the voice casting is wonderful (the NA cast isn't bad either). Seki Tomokazu plays Dee. You'd remember his voice if you are a fan of Fushigi Yuugi (Chichiri/Kouji), X (Kamui), or Evangelion (Touji). Check this OVA out! It's worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Can we PLEASE get a sequel? Review: I just have to say that I bought this, and it's awesome. Seen it 3 times so far on DVD. Very romantic and downright hilarious! But it also has it's very sexy and action-packed highlights in the movie. I just want to know if there can be a sequel to this someday. If so, I'll buy two copies. Like some have mentioned before, it doesn't preach, which is good. But it also has a look into our favorite 27th Precinct boys' lives. Very very good, and the fans are hoping for more. Thank you Ms. Sanami Matoh!
Rating: Summary: Wee! Review: I must say, this movie is flippin hilarious. I love all the characters, so funny!
Rating: Summary: A Very Well Done Anime Review: I recommend this anime to all people who are okay with the gay lifestyle. This anime is very well done and I wish that more were made. The characters are hilarious and there is an interesting plot line. All of my friends who have seen it, even those who do not watch anime, have enjoyed this one. I am glad that I bought this DVD and feel that it is worth the money I paid. You are missing a good thing if you do not buy this anime.
Rating: Summary: A Must See or Buy! Review: I rented the video at a local anime store in town and wasn't completely sure what to expect. I have never read the manga so I wasn't aware of who Dee or Ryo is. Fortunately, I didn't need to know the manga (except for the intro of characters whom weren't introduced very smoothly) though I now yearn to read the manga after watching the movie. I loved the English dubbing for both main characters, especially Dee's obnoxious yet sensitive voice and Ryo's shy and timid voice. I actually wanted their relationship to grow but alas, the second storyline - the murder mystery (though not really a mystery) - had to be solved by these two tough NY city cops. Excellent story, excellent dubbing, excellent art, and of course, excellent characters. Wish a second movie or tv series will be released. Any one care to mass e-mail the producers/animators for that request??
