Rating: Summary: Funky humor Review: Dee is insane. I kept expecting him to scream "I choose you, Pikachiu!" and throw a red and white ball to do battle with Ryo's virginity. The background story was interesting. A nice little whodunit kind of thing. The art was pretty good and Dee's lustful attempts at getting a peice of Ryo were hysterical. However, the whole thing was Japanese-romance-novel contrived. I've seen the same cliched romance in a Godzilla movie (we have a lot of those, don't ask). I've been around men all my life. I have never met one that would get a piece of follow-your-heart-and-face-your-feelings advice and then suddenly realize that he was in (insert hearts and cupid here) love. The subplot wasn't too bad. Someone is killing of Japanese-Americans. It was interesting, though not only simple to figure out, but the motive was as contrived as Ryo's sudden realization of his feelings for Dee. No surprises. Good art, good characters, hysterical situation, bad storyline. If you can tolerate the run-of-the-mill Japanese anime melodrama, then it's not a bad movie.

Rating: Summary: I still don't know why it's called Fake... Review: Definitely worth watching -- it's cute and fun. This OAV is based mostly on part of the second serving of the manga, with a flashback to part of the first, but it's fun to see it animated, and to hear them. The animation style is a bit heavier on the face faults than some, and the voices once in a while make sudden changes in volume and emotion in a not-exactly-normal way, but it's funny (and meant to be). It was easy to ignore the very '80s nature of most of the outfits, but not so much JJ's shorts. Heh. I guess that's my personal WTF detail. The DVD includes Japanese soundtrack only, Japanese w/ english subtitles, English soundtrack only, and English w/ english subtitles(?!). I wished for Japanese subtitle options, on English or Japanese or both, but hey, can't have =everything=. I really wish there were more -- maybe a whole series based on the manga -- so hey, everyone buy it and maybe they'll be convinced to produce one. ;)

Rating: Summary: Superb gay anime. Review: FAKE is a stunning project. The movie presented is actually a bit of a compression of the SECOND issue of a manga (Japanese comic) of the same title. Although the movie attempts to show all pertinant background information of the characters involved, it leaves out some details. In all, however, it is an excellent movie, and quite a daring import, given the american attitude about homosexuality.
Rating: Summary: It is the privilige for women to watch FAKE Review: Fake is an absolute entertainment DVD for women yonge or old. I strongly disagree with some viewers about yaoi. Please just remember that it is the privilege of women to view Japaneses yaoi mangas and DVDs. If you are a man and you never watches Will&Grace, please do not bother to pick up the DVD and to be picky about it. You should just dive into your ball games. Do not criticize the DVD just because you have no stomach for yaoi. To be honest, FAKE is the great DVD, very artistic. There is amazing computer graphic effort. The plot is more like a comedy than a romance or mistery. Even a little romance between two main characters is quite artistically done. Besides there is no explicit yaoi at all. I just wish there were a real TV series based on the manga. A short OAV DVD is just too short. If you are a husband, you may order FAKE as a gift for your hard-working wife. Just leave her alone after all kids are in bed. Do not watch with her if you are scared of any gay stuff unless your wife invites you. If you are woman with independent sprits like me, order it for yourself. Relax after a day's hard work. FAKE will not betray you. Well, just remember that yaoi is for women (besides there is no real yaoi. Am I a spoiler?)
Rating: Summary: Recommended for all Review: Fake is one of the most interesting anime OAVs I've ever seen. Captivating until the very end, Fake will keep you on the edge of your seats. Fake is a story about a gay New York cop named Dee and his police partner Ryo. The pair has taken a trip to England for a little vacation time; yet what they do is anything but relaxing. A murder has been committed at their hotel, and it's up to Dee and Ryo, along with some wacky other characters, to slove the case. Fake is definitely recommended for any anime fan, novice or expert. Fake is thirteen and up for content, but there is nothing too bad. Fake is a good anime, even if you have never seen a shounen-ai (gay) anime before.
Rating: Summary: It has it's good and bad points... Review: Good point: it's Fake on DVD! Bad point: The English language translation, and Dee's horrid, annoying voice. Good point: the story has been fleshed out a little bit more and is somewhat more satisfying than in the manga. Bad point: lots of kissing left out. Darn. Good point: the addition of the wto female tourists as foils for Ryo and Dee. Bad point: even without reading the manga, they practically had a neon "doomed" sign above their heads. Point of interest: whoever did the animation, used a real place in England for the setting. The minute I saw the hotel, I said, "That's in Derwentwater, in the Lakes District!" It looks exactly like the hotel I stayed at. This suspicion was confirmed by the girl with the Peter Rabbit souvenir (the Lakes District was the home of Beatrix Potter.). Like others have said, if you're a fan of the manga, this is a must see. If not...well, there is better anime out there.
