Summary: One Of The Greatest Historical Dramas Of Our Time.
Review: Spike Lee's "Malcolm X" is a riveting masterpiece that's thrilling and emotionally moving and powerful. Lee does a great job capturing Malcolm X as does Denzel Washington in his best performance ever. This is a film that lets us know the character and his times. I also loved the structure of the screenplay and film itself. The first half is noirish with the gangster feel of "Scarface," the second is a riveting historical document like Oliver Stone's "JFK." "Malcolm X" should be shown in schools around America as an educational tool about a man and his era. Malcolm X embodied the struggle of the African-American in America. This is powerful filmmaking at it's best. "Malcolm X" is brutal, powerful, hard-hitting and full of great performances. Not even Lee's recent Summer release, "Summer Of Sam," reaches the level of power and intensity of "Malcolm X." This is one of the greatest films of the decade, a true gem.

Summary: Why No Oscar?
Review: To this day, "Malcolm X" is one of my all time favorite films. It is a shame that some of the greatest performances are ignored while equal or lesser performances are praised. For example, Denzel Washington won for "Glory" (a great film) but lost with "Malcolm X" and Laurence Fishburne lost with "Othello" and won for "Whats Love Got to do With It" (an inferior film). And all this while there are screams of discrimination in Hollywood. Denzel wins for a powerful slave role, but not for a controversial figure. Laurence wins for an abusive husband, but not for an awsome portrayal of a Shakespeare character in an inter-ethnic relationship.

Not only is "Malcolm X" one of Washington's greatest performances, it is Spike Lee's greatest achievement so far and I own all of his films. It is a daring, insightful, and moving experience. Brother Malcolm's entire experience can be an inspiration to us all, regardless of our background. I feel it is an important film for all to see.

Summary: One of the best if not the best video I've ever seen.
Review: Denzel Washington's portrayal was beyond excellent; he captured the spirit and the essence of Malcolm X. His portrayal, timing and execution was on the money. My only question is; why isn't this video available in DVD? Almost everyone ranks it with 5 stars. Please get this video in DVD format and in multiple languages. It's a must see.

Review: Spike lee's effort was careful and intriguing...Looking on the screen you were made to believe that Denzel was Malcolm X....I believed it whole and true....They need to collaborate on other efforts...Thanks for the history lesson.....

Summary: A Very Good Film, EXCEPT...
Review: This is an incredible production. Lee reconstructs neighborhoods and places that have been gone for years, and he deserves an awful lot of credit. The film, as a film, works very well. However, if anyone has read about the Nation of Islam and the life of Malcom X, there is a fair amount of information about the role Boston Minister, Louis Farrakhan played in the killing. Of course, if Lee had included Louis X in the movie, he'd end up like Malcom.

Before I get myself killed, please allow me to recommend a great book that covers the assassination better than any other book I've read: "Pillar of Fire, America in the King Years, 1963-64" by Taylor Branch. Although the book is primarily about King, it covers the events leading up to the killing of Malcolm X, including an amazing assassination attempt of one of Malcom X's colleagues during a high speed car chase through the streets of Boston.

After I read Branch's book, I saw Lee's film as a great movie, but historically, a missed opportunity. I think Lee is too close to the subject matter to include all of the details in an objective manner. So despite all the great performances, costumes, sets, and photography, I am left a bit disappointed. I'm waiting for a courageous filmmaker to do justice to Malcom X's life and legacy.

Summary: Spike Lee's virtual tour through history
Review: Denzel Washington was born to play this role. It's wonderful that Spike Lee was able to take his audience through the entire history of Malcolm X. Not just his life as an adult. But we are able to see how this wonderful man became to be.

Summary: MALCOM X: MAKES ME WANNA HOLLA???
Review: Malcom X is one of the best if not the best movie I've ever seen. I won't say it is the best because the plot was biographical and not original. The overall portrayal of Malcom X from class pres. to street hustler to convict to political leader is as good as it gets. This is my opinion of Malcom X as a movie, but many times in society when focusing on Malcom X and his ideas we tend to forget the evolution of Malcom especially his spiritual and eye opening experience during his pilgrimage to Mecca. One can not truly understand or appreciate Malcom until he understands his evolution. There are many things to learn from brother Malcom: his charisma, his fiery rhetoric, and his critical distance but the most important thing to learn from him is his evolution.

Summary: A "must see video"
Review: This film directed by Spike Lee, is one of the best movies I've watched. Denzel Washington(Academy Award winner in a different role but sadly missed on this role)depicts the actions, voice and oratorical skills of Malcolm X in an impressive manner.

No wonder the book based on this movie "The Autobiography of Malcom X" by Alex Haley is a best seller and a modern American classic. This film has influenced me so much so that I am compelled to watch any motion picture that includes Malcolm X, Spike Lee or Denzel Washington. So far it's the only film that I never get enough of watching, I still borrow the video again and again.

However, some viewers may find the running time extraordinarily long, nearly three and half hours! The first part of the film which accounts for the early life of Milcolm X, although essential to the background of the story, should have been shortened. Motion picture, unlike the print media is not to narrate every line of the story.

Nonetheless, it is a brilliant and classic work that I've enjoyed very much. It's the closest you can get to understanding the enigmatic and charismatic figure of Malcolm X. Thank you, the makers of this movie. END
