Summary: Just one of the best "chick flicks" ever!
Review: I don't know of a woman on earth who doesn't love this movie. It's just great; the way things can get out of hand in a heartbeat, the consequences of pushing the envelope, the love for their mutual friendship, the bonding, the drama, the humor.... Life! Great, great movie. Perfect casting!

Summary: I guess feminists think crime and murder is ok
Review: Ok look I know at this very minute that there are men out there doing bad things to women. But guess what that door swings both ways and do we really need a Movie like this one to enlarge the gender gap between men and women. I really hate the way this movie shows people abusing firearms, being a gun owner that just drives me nuts! When I saw Susan Sarandons character shoot that guy in the parking lot I just threw up my arms and said "Now that was really stupid"! Sure the guy was a dirt bag and he should be in jail but you can`t use lethal force like that if someone offends you . When she did that she might as well have shot her self because her life was destroyed at that point anyway She should have walked away and got out of there after she got Gena Davis away from him. Well that is all I have to say I am sorry if I offended anyone.

Summary: A cult classic -- not just for feminists.
Review: "BOOM!!" Under fire from Thelma and Louise's guns, the tongue-wagging truck-driver's pride and joy (and extension of his manhood) goes up in flames. Incredulous, its owner stares at the spectacle and lets off a pitifully helpless and, in its helplessness, hilariously comical tirade against the two female outlaws; whose only reason not to shoot him, too, at this point is that it is so utterly more poignant to let him sit all alone by the road side in the vastness of the Southwest, robbed of all attributes of male potency and left to the pity of whoever is eventually going to pick him up and give him a ride back to civilization. By the time of this incident, Thelma has mutated from a subdued and insecure housewife to a self-assured, fearless queen of the highway. ("Something has crossed over" in her, she tells Louise shortly before their final encounter with their truck-driving nemesis.) Louise in turn, who had taken the lead early on in their flight from the police, has overcome her intermittent bout of despair and is back to her old self, too. Now wanted not only for questioning in connection with the death of the rapist shot by Louise but also for armed robbery in another state, knowing that being questioned by the police will inevitably add a charge of murder for the incident which set off their run (and probably also knowing deep down inside that there is not going to be a happy ending to their weekend trip anyway), Thelma and Louise have stopped to care what is going to happen next. Thus emboldened, they make a last great run for it, which ultimately leads them to the vast, endlessly deep gorges of the Grand Canyon. "Thelma and Louise" is all and none of the things as which it has been described. It is about the friendship between two women, about female independence and male sexism, but it is neither a simple "chick flick" nor a monument to feminism (although I have to admit that watching it can have an almost therapeutic effect when you've just about "had it" again with the male slightly-less-than-half of society). Most of the men that Thelma and Louise encounter are two-dimensional cartoon characters, but "Reservoir Dogs" and perpetual tough guys Harvey Keitel and Michael Madsen (of all people) are cast against stereotype. The movie also features some absolutely stunning pictures of the Southwestern scenery and mostly takes place on the road, but it is not just a "road movie" (feminist or otherwise). More than anything, this is a movie about the things that shape the way we are, and about the consequences of our actions. Had Thelma learned to use her brain before and not after their encounter with Harlan the rapist, she would have seen him for what he was and avoided him from the start. Had Louise not been raped herself, she would probably not have shot Harlan at being provoked by him, after the self-defense situation was already over. Impulse? Fate? Justifiable homicide? Hardly. Thoroughly understandable? Absolutely, at least from a woman's point of view. It takes two extraordinary lead actresses to carry the movie's theme, and Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis are the perfect embodiment of the characters they portray. Next to them, not even Keitel and Madsen really shine (although this may be in part due to the thankless parts they play); only Brad Pitt, in the role that made him an overnight star, briefly gets to sparkle. Callie Khourie was a deserving winner of the 1991 Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Screenplay, and both Sarandon and Davis would have been equally deserving of the Best Leading Actress awards. So would have Ridley Scott for Directing, Adrian Biddle for Cinematography, Thom Noble for Editing and the movie itself, for Best Drama - in a year that produced many extraordinary films, it might have been more just to split some of the awards among several contenders, and despite the strong competition ("Bugsy," "Silence of the Lambs," "Prince of Tides," "The Fisher King," "Grand Canyon" and "Fried Green Tomatoes," to name just a few), it seems sadly underrated for a movie that has long since become a cult classic to only have won one of the awards it was nominated for, both on Oscar Night and at the Golden Globes.

Summary: Terrific movie...
Review: Thelma and Louise decide to take the weekend off. They plan to go to the mountains, but an unexpected stop in the way changes their plans - Thelma is almost raped, and Louise kills the guy. From then on they escape from the police, making matters worse for themselves. Even though the story line is VERY predictable and cliched, the great acting makes this movie worthwhile to watch. The ending scene, where they decide to drive off a cliff and die free instead of getting arrested was very strong.

Review: Let's go on the road! I'm packing now! LOL! (But hey, maybe someday!) ;):b :smokin ! We are definitely both on a Journey aren't we Sis? LOVE IT! Ok, now a review! This movie is fantastic. Five stars without a second thought. Why? It makes the viewer think about CONSEQUENCES! My daughter will definitely watch this, when I feel she is mature enough! ALL WOMEN should see THELMA AND LOUISE! We MUST look ahead and see what the end result of our actions Could be BEFORE we ACT! (Problem is, no one knows how they affect other people...we can't read minds! I wish men knew this!) However, IF we can accomplish this, (thinking about the possible end results of our actions) then Susan, Geena, Brad and Ridley didn't fail in their efforts. This movie has an amazing lesson! Watch it and learn...I am going to watch it again...RIGHT NOW! I hate the alternative ending! I wanted them to LIVE! I want a Thelma and Louise II! Maybe I should write the script this time! Summary: FEMINIST ANTHEM
Review: Over here in Iceland where I live they are showing this movie on tv and somehow the tv station put together a summary on the film which states that Susan Sarandon and Gwyneth Paltrow star in this film together!! What a marvel. Who knew? Luckily a friend of mine has control over one tv guide that goes out to all parts of Iceland, so hopefully people will rely on his accurate account of the film which would state that this is the film, starring Sarandon and GEENA DAVIS, that launched Brad Pitt into stardom. This is the film that inspired many women to action, renewed friendships and made some women feel powerful. Although most women probably did not end their lives the way Thelma and Louise do in this film, women everywhere gathered some sense of togetherness from this film when two friends go on the run as events and circumstances around them escalate. Soon they are running from the law and feel that they have no alternatives although the detective on the case, played by Harvey Keitel, seems sympathetic and sincere in his desire to bring the twosome back peacefully. The film is witty, full of surprising events, and you will enjoy it although the end might not be the happiest one in film history.

Summary: Ridley takes it to the road
Review: This is one of the best movies of the '90s. On one hand it is a great tragedy but on the other hand a liberating experience (at least for our two heros). The actors are excellent, and the cinematography as well. Some really great shots of the wide open space in the US (something we don't have here in Europe). But what makes this movie a classic for me is the ending. There are not many movies from Hollywood going for the logical and best ending without any compromises. The extras are also ok, showing us an alternative ending (which is not THAT alternative:-) and commentary by Ridley Scott.

Review: My girlfriend and I watched the film for the first time last night, and our response was "what's all the fuss about?" It never drew me in; it always just seemed like a bunch of Hollywood types playing caricatures of white trash, with many absurd plot twists along the way. Harvey Keitel's attempt at a southern accent was particularly embarrassing. The annoying soundtrack, which sounded like some Don Henley B side, was particularly annoying and obtrusive. Brad Pitt's performance was the best thing in this film. Overall a waste of talent.

Summary: So much potential
Review: This movie, and particularly the ending, had the potential to be so much better than it was. The first time I saw Thelma and Louise it didn't strike me as feminist but simply humanist. Despite some corny dialogue, a weak script and a group of somewhat shallow supporting characters, the movie did manage to hit a few emotional chords. But the best thing about this movie was the cinematic side. Outstanding performances from the lead actresses, breathtaking scenery, superb direction from Ridley Scott and a brilliant musical score by Hans Zimmer make this a must see for anyone who appreciates good movie making.

Review: Just in case you didn't see this in the theaters... This flick is definitely about women standing up for themselves. The gals go off for a weekend of play and their weekend becomes one very long, very unplanned trip to a brand spankin' new lifestyle on the VERY wild side.
