Review: Okay this movie has to be one of thee best mafia/gangster/mob movies ever besides Scarface and The Godfather I & II. I'm 16 years old and I love this movie to death. To the kid who was 12/13 or whatever, first of all you should expect that this movie is gonna be somewhat violent with Pesci in it(not that Pesci goes around killing in all of his movies) and if Deniro is in it than you know something is gonna happen(something always does when Deniro is around) but also the rating i mean it was rated R...i mean they dont put the ratings on there just to have em on there so u should have known it was going to be violent....and i do agree that the movie was at its low point when Liotta was on dope but still that also made it a strong point cause that kinda thing happened to hoods but yet no one talks about it.....all in all this is a good movie

Summary: There Needs to be a Collector's or Special Edition
Review: NOTE: THE TWO STARS IS FOR THE DVD, NOT THE MOVIE. THE MOVIE DESERVES 5 STARS.

Yes, this review doesn't really concern the movie. Just know that "Goodfellas" is one of my favorite Mafia movies. Everything about the movie is superb, and it deserves 5 stars all the way. So please, DO NOT THINK THAT THIS REVIEW IS ATTACKING THE MOVIE, because it's not.

What this review IS attacking is this terrible DVD. I didn't know I was buying a smaller version of a laserdisk. Why does the movie have to be on two sides??? I don't get it. Yeah, it might be a long movie, but they were able to fit "Casino" all on one side. So what's up with that?

There better be a special or collector's edition coming out soon, because this movie needs one bad. Not just because it's a classic and a masterpiece, but because it needs to be on ONE side! When I buy a DVD, I expect just that.

Other than the movie being on both sides, the DVD really lacks in special features, the picture quality is so-so, and the sound could've been improved in some parts.

Again, "Goodfellas" is a masterpiece in my mind, and it deserves 5 stars. But the DVD is just awful. In fact, calling the DVD "awful" is being too polite.

Warner Bros.: Come out with a special edition, for crying out-loud!!!

If you love this movie, don't get the DVD. Just get it on VHS and wait until a better version comes out. TRUST ME on this one. Unless they have updated the movie and placed it all on one side. If that's the case, please let me know and I will have to re-buy it.

I will write a real review for the movie in the VHS section sometime soon.

Again, the low rating is for the DVD; NOT the film.

Summary: What kind of people are you?
Review: Martin Scorsese has an eclectic collection of truly great movies under his belt including 'The Last Temptation of Christ', 'The Age of Innocence', 'Taxi Driver', 'Mean Streets', 'Casino' (this movies sort of sequel) and many more, but for me only two come close to being this films equal, 'Cape Fear' and 'Raging Bull'. 'Goodfellas' surpasses even these with the sheer truth of it. This was the film Ray Liotta was destined to make in my opinion. This wise-guy imparts his whole world for our delight and delectation, laughing at us as he does so. The entire cast are superb so I won't bother to name them individually...no point in that whatsoever. 'Goodfellas' is immensely funny, shocking, kinda' sexy and wonderfully suspenseful. I totally feel the fear Henry and Karen Hill are experiencing as they bow to the weight of the inevitable and sign themselves into the 'witness protection programme' at the end. I'm also extremely glad he, almost alone, by dint of a charmed life, is saved...though dammed to a prosaic life of hum-drum tedium like the rest of us that almost manages to wipe the smile off his face. I like this guy. ... excellent movie from the opening shot to the righteous end.

Summary: LOST FOR WORDS!!!!
Review: What a classic. but first i must address the review on the first page from "a 12 year old viewer" titled "Goodfellas" (I think). Well first, De Niro is one of the most important characters in the movie (along with joe, ray etc.). Its also alot more than just "Cuss words and blood", actually watch the movie instead of just the violence and language aspect of it, anyway, this movie is not intended for an audience of your age. The movie shows an accurate representation of the mafia in america during 1930 through to 1980(and beyond) as well as a damn good story. Each actor (and actress) give it their best and it shows. Watch this movie because it is the best mafia movie ever made, i liked it better than the godfather movies, but thats just my opinion. (although the kid had a point about the pretty heavey violence and amount of swearing, but its pretty funny).

Summary: An ALL TIME CLASSIC
Review: This movie has it all. I really do not like going into detail about the story. The storyline is great. The characters are remarkable. The acting is extremely, the best i have scene in a Drama movie.

Summary: "Goodfellas", a brilliant motion picture
Review: Goodfellas would have to be one of the most brilliantly pure interpretations of gangsters in the United States that I have ever seen.
Starring Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and Joe Pesciand Lorraine Bracco, 'Goodfellas' was written by Nicholas Pileggi and Martin Scorcese, although much of the script is based on a true to life novel by Pileggi, spanning 30 years of lif in the mafia in the United States.
De Niro's performance of the criminalistic Jimmy Conway gives the film a naturalistic power, purely describing many of the capabilities and needs of a gangster. But not only is this film ingeniously acted, director Scorcese uses many daring film techniques, such as lengthy scenes without using any cuts (check the scene where they enter the niteclub).
There are brilliant performances by all; in particularly the often exuberant Joe Pesci, for which this picture garnered him his first oscar. Liotta is versatile in his role of Henry Hill, and Lorraine Bracco plays a gangster's wife with pure perfection. All things aside, Goodfellas is a fantastic movie and is one to stand the test of time for many years to come. This film is worth watching many times. I give it 5 stars.

Review: I've seen many Gangster/mafia flicks and none of them even came close to comparing to this work of art. It's a classic, it's a downright masterpeice! Everything about this movie was just amazing. If your into Mafia movies put this movie infront of all of the others. Amazing screenplay followed by some amazing actors who single handly played a wonderful preformance. I'm surprised this movie didn't win all of the academy awards. This is defiently one of the top ten best movies of all time. Own it today!

Summary: Goodfellas
Review: After hearing everybody talk about how good Goodfellas was, I couldn't wait to see it. I figured with the combination of my favorite actor " Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, this would be a wonderful movie. Well, I was wrong. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Goodfellas is a bad movie, cause it's good, but it's nothing but cuss words and blood. Plus not to mention, Robert De Niro wasn't really in the movie all that much. See, there was 4 main characters starting with Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Robert De Niro, and Paul Sorvino. I'm not a big Ray Liotta fan, but I think he played his part pretty good until he got messed up on crack. But Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, and Robert De Niro all work for Paul Sorvino. Basically they steal stuff like cigarettes off of trucks at the airport. Joe Pesci won an award for his crazy roll of Tommy Devito. He was basically out of control. I think the down fall for Goodfellas is that it's a true story and they were all (i mean all) stupid. Ray Liotta- didn't do stuff hisself. He left a girl to make a phone that he knew she would mess up. Robert De Niro- guilty by just hanging out with Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci. Joe Pesci killed everybody who so much as looked or said the wrong thing to him. Then he killed a made guy, and he wasn't one. He knew that it would get him killed, but he killed him anyway. Then he fell for that bs story that they would turn him into a made guy. Well, watch the rest. Overall, it's worth viewing once or maybe twice.

Summary: GREAT MOVIE! HOPE A DVD UPGRADE IS IN THE WORKS.
Review: MARTIN SCORSESE'S GOODFELLAS IN MY OPINION IS ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER. BUT THE DVD WAS GIVIN' ONE OF THE WORST TREATMENTS. I BECOME APPALLED WHEN I'M WRAPPED UP IN A HELLA GREAT MOVIE LIKE "GOODFELLAS" AND I'M INTERRUPTED BY HAVING TO FLIP THE DVD LIKE SOME 1980's LASER DISC. I AM SURE THAT A SERIOUS UPGRADE IS COMING SOON. NOW ABOUT THE FILM ITSELF... IT WAS NOMINATED FOR BEST PICTURE IN 1990. GOODFELLAS IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES... GREAT PERFORMANCES ARE ALWAYS FOUND IN A SCORSESE'S PICTURE, NO EXCEPTIONS HERE. ROBERT DE NIRO, JOE PESCI & RAY LIOTTA ARE THE LEADS AND THEY ARE ALL IN TOP FORM. THE SUPPORTING PERFORMANCES BY LORRIANE BRACCO & PAUL SORVINO ARE ALSO VERY CREDITABLE. SAYING THE LEAST "GOODFELLAS" IS THE BEST MOB MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN! SO WITH THAT BEING SAID, I SUPPOSE THIS DVD WILL DO FOR NOW. SOME REVIEWERS HAVE REDUCED THE AMOUNT OF STARS BASED ON (HAVING TO FLIP THE DVD). SCORSESE'S FILM IS A LEAGUE ABOVE PERFECTION AND SHOULD NOT HAVE IT'S AVERAGE LOWERED BASED ON PACKAGING OR POOR CHOICES ON HOW THE DVD WAS DESIGNED.

Review: I'm echoing other reviewers here...when a piece of dross like Pearl Harbor has already had multiple releases, how can it be that one of the finest American films is treated so shabbily?
Where's Criterion when you need them?
Hold out for an improved release.
