Rating: Summary: "....And A Nice Chianti" Review: When I first saw this movie in 1991, I realized that I had just witnessed a fine piece of film that will no doubt go down as one of the finest thrillers ever made. When the movie went on to win all of the major Oscar awards, it was nice to see that the industry thought so too. After the pleasant, but non-distinguishable "Manhunter" 5 years previous, the unsuspecting audience finally got to see Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter in a way he was meant to be seen. The movie was directed by Joonathan Demme, and was based on the book by Thomas Harris. The film follows Clarice Starling, an FBI agent in traning, who is played by Jodie Foster. She is brought in on a case involving a serial killer known as Buffalo Bill. He is a dangerous psychopath who has killed numerous women. To help track him down, Starling must go to see Hannibal Lecter who might be able to help her track the killer down. Although Brian Cox did an admirable job as Lecter in "Manhunter", Anthony Hopkins really brings the character to life. It is his character. No one can touch him or his performance. The cold stare and the diabolical grin and winking. Just knowing who he is and what he has done only makes the charmingness all the more creepy and frightening. Hopkins does it with ease and grace, and never goes overboard. He makes Lecter real. And there is nothing scarier than when something comes across as real. The same could be said for Foster. We all know she is a phenomenal actress, and she proves it again with this performance. We connect with Agent Starling. We want her to win and catch the bad guy. That same feeling could not be acheived with Julianne Moore in the role in "Hannibal". Ted Levine as Buffalo Bill, is a one man creepshow. Just as eerie and creepy as Tom Noonan in "Manhunter". His voice could send chills up anyone's spine. The direction is top notch. The writing is intelligent and clever, and is way above most other thriller screenwriters' heads. Big credit goes to Ted Tally for writing an impeccable script. The movie is a real thriller. It is what a thriller should be. Not overly gory, but more to do with the people and the situation. Plus, you don't usually get classic, memorable characters like this in most films. It's a movie for people who love movies. Love 'real' thrillers. Unless, of course, you are the one who wrote the review below saying how hilarious the movie was and basically showcasing your inability to access intelligence. The follow up, "Hannibal", was nicely done, but a huge disappointment nonetheless. We can only hope that the new "Red Dragon" carries on the torch from "Silence".
Rating: Summary: Another Review? Review: Here we go again, with another in over 200 reviews, but I take some liberties here with trying to figure out why Hopkins was attracted to this role. He sure is menacing and believable as Hannibal Lecter. Probably too believable, and Jodie Foster is equally good, but far outdistanced by this predator. It gives chills and spine-tingling tremors, this film. Don't watch it alone!!
Rating: Summary: Hilarious! Review: This has got to be one of the funniest movies ever made. Me and friends couldn't stop laughing. The funniest part was when Buffalo Bill is dressing up like a woman. If you are in the mood for a great comedy, disguised as a horror film, this is the one for you. Also check out Hannible, Silence of the Hams, and Dead Alive for a night of gut bursting laughter!
Rating: Summary: Great Film, Bad Horror Movie! Review: This is a good drama, but Horror/Thriller/Suspense Film, it is not. Ask any horror buff, who isn't tied down to a particular genre and they'll tell you, that this film isn't scary. Some would argue that "Oh but people like this really exist, this is real", so, it's real, big real. Those kind of horror movies suck. Then some will argue "Oh well, you just like a bunch of killing and gore." Well in case you didn't know this, for all you "reality" horror buffs, gore is a very real thing. Ask any one who was in WWII or any off the other wars, and they'll tell you. That just proves that "reality" horror buff reviews aren't reliable, they are posers trying to sound intelligent, but to us real horror fans who don't care what kind of horror film it is, you sound stupid! This isn't scary, and that is the final word!!!
Rating: Summary: One of the best films of the 90's Review: This thriller proves to be a fully satisfying expierience. The actors are great, especially Anthony Hopkins as the chilling Dr. Lector, who may be the best murderer of this genre since pyscho. It is much better than your other run of the mill thrillers of the 90's. Namely, films like the Bone Collector, thanks to the Lector charachter. Because this film is top notch production. The only other film (of its genre) to rival it recently is Se7en. If future years this film will no doubt be looked upon as a classic, even more so than it already is.

Rating: Summary: WORTH TO BE SEEN FOR A FEW TIMES Review: Is it even better than the book and I loved the book.
Rating: Summary: ALWAYS AN INCREDIBLE MOVIE! Review: This movie haunted me the first time I saw it. I was moved by Anthony Hopkins incredible acting and being able to act out as a murderer so well. When he acts in this movie I really feel that he is a real person, and a completely different person then he really is. I love how this flick shows murder, love, and a mystery that just keeps unfolding. I have always loved this movie and it is on my 6 favorite movies list. I believe that almost anybody can enjoy this. It is an incredible thriller and an enthralling tale that holds its interest throughout the run of the film. I can't see how anybody wouldn't get something out of Jodie Foster's scene when she is walking in the dark, completely lost, and she shows amazing emotion as if she is really there. I think everyone should be able to love this film, and is a 90's classic.
Rating: Summary: 5 stars for the movie, but 3 stars for horror movie. Review: This film really isn't that scary, but it was a very well-made film. Great acting, good plot, some blood, a cannible, what more could you ask for! It is also pretty funny as well, like a line at the end of the movie "I'm having an old friend for dinner." I almost died laughing. It is a great movie, but if your looking for a scary movie look some were else. Try The Exorcist, The Evild Dead, The Omen, or Salem's Lot. If you just want a very well made film, see this one.
Rating: Summary: Was it a butterfly?? Review: If you like anyhony hopkins, then i suggest that you watch this spine tingling horror film. Hannible "The cannibal" Lecter, is in a mental hospital for many reasons, and the so called "doctor" isnt exactly what he makes himself out to be. he hates rude people which is why he eats them. In his mind he is doing a "favor" to society. jodie foster, who by the way was soo much better than juillane moore, playes clarice starling, a fbi agent in training at the accademy, when she is called to investigate a few things. she was the best in her class whice is why she was singled out.can you see what hannible has for her in his own mind? anyway, i dont want to spoil this film for you. A word of caution to peoples with weak stomachs and people eating during the film, dont watch this while eating, especially the face part. it was needless to say excruciating to watch. but this movie is awesome. In my ways, i could have a conversation with man, being civil he has many inspiring things to say. anthony hopkins deserves much credit for playing this man, he is definatly worth watching.
