Summary: Best movie I have ever seen...
Review: This is the type of movie that makes you love movies! Brilliantly directed and acted, this movie grabs you and doesn't let go. The mark of a great movie for me is when you really believe it could happen, and this seems so likely to have happened. This genre of film noir has always been my love and this movie definitely helped enforce that love.

Summary: Brilliant!
Review: In this complicated story, the characters immerse themselves in the most brilliantly crafted webs. The entire cast is stellar, with Kevin Spacey again stealing the show as Jack Vincennes. His final scene in the film SHOULD NOT BE MISSED!

Summary: The type of movie Hollywood needs to produce more of.
Review: I admit that I am a movie buff and love all types of movies. But, this movie seemed to strike me more than others. From the setting of the '50s to the great casting for every part, this movie really suspends your disbelief and you feel as if you are one of the characters. The plot thickens as the turn of events keep you guessing on "Who Done It." Defintely a buy rather than a rent.

Summary: Stunning
Review: LA confidential is one of those few films that have you on the edge of your seat throughout, then as the credits roll, you sit with your partner and debate whether or not to sit through it again. The setting is wonderful, the colour is deliciously washed out, and who would have thought Guy Pierce would be so focussed? Kevin Spacey again puts in the kind of performance that makes you wonder - how can one man be that good? That easy with the role? Script, performances, cinematography, editing - top class, intelligent film making. Beautiful.

Summary: This was one of the best movies I've ever seen!
Review: I bought L.A. Confidential on the strength of a movie review. The review I read gave it 31/2 stars out of 4. The price was right, so I bought it, thinking it would be a good movie. After seeing it, I would say that it's a great movie.

As other reviewers at this site have indicated, it seems that this film was sold short last year. Titanic got most of the publicity. I have to admit that I'm one of the few who haven't yet seen Titanic, however I can't see how it would top L.A. Confidential.

The extras on the disc are great. The acting is superb. The sound on DVD is fantastic. It is altogether a super buy on DVD.

Summary: A modern classic shines on DVD
Review: The film version of L.A. Confidential amazingly captures the tone and spirit of James Elroy's classic and complex novel of misplaced morals, greed and corruption. The DVD version of this film is fantastic! The sound crackles, the images are crisp while retaining the subdued and subtle colors of the original and the action "pops" in widescreen format. The extras include very interesting documentaries and previews, and an interactive map of Los Angeles that shows where scenes from the movie take place as you click on them. The director, Curtis Hanson, is obviosuly very proud of this movie, and it shows in the amount and quality of collateral material on the DVD. There are some scenes where MPEG "jaggies" show in the background, but the overall image quality is fantastic. END

Summary: Brilliant!
Review: This film is a work of art. It brings back the true noir of Hollywood. It was based on the book by James Ellroy which he wrote so it could not be made into a film. Helgeland and Hanson changed that around. A marvelous spell-binding mystery that keeps you guessing to the final pay off. I loved it!! END

Summary: A return to classic film noir
Review: This film was absolutely fantastic! I rented it and loved it, then had to have it. All the characters in this film kept me gusessing. Yes I was trying to figure out who was the bad guy and I was completely surprised when I the film ended. Everyone is not who they appear to be.

Having it in the DVD format makes it even better. There is nothing like seeing a movie in wide screen where the sound system is fantastic. END

Summary: Chinatown is the way to go
Review: L.A. Confidential is probably the best reviewed film of 1997. But I urge your readers to watch Chinatown starring Jack Nicholson. L.A. Confidential is a well-crafted film with wonderful actors, particularly Kim Basinger. But in the modern film noir genre, Chinatown is still the way to go. END

Summary: the BEST movie of 1997!!
Review: When I went to see this movie, it was with some hesitation--this sort of film is not usually my cup of tea. But, when I walked out, I felt like I had just spent some of the best 2 hours and 15 minutes of my life. A wonderfully written script, excellent direction, gorgeous sets, and some of the best ensemble acting I have ever seen. It's really a shame that so many people got caught up in the "Titanic" jugggernaut--I really believe that "L.A. Confidential" rather than "Titanic" will stand the test of time. END
