Summary: The Best Hollywood Movie in Years
Review: Yes, "Titanic" may have been the best spectacle in movie theaters last year, but this was the best movie--chock full of consistently superior writing and acting and replete with a story that treats its viewers as thinking adults rather than mindless entertainment zombies. Guy Peirce and Russell Crowe are outstanding as L.A. cops with diametrically oppossed ideas of what constitutes "justice" (or so it seems). You haven't seen good cop/bad cop played like this EVER! Plus, it's mind-blowing to hear them both expound in their native Aussie accents during the documentary footage included on the DVD. Kevin Spacey and James Cromwell are also marvelous. I wasn't all that keen on Kim Basinger, though, who isn't asked to do much except be pretty. Everyone else is certainly acting in Oscar-calibre range. Despite the convuluted plot, Curtis Hanson directs in a style that's easy to trust and by the time he brings us to the home stretch, I was sitting on the edge of my seat. There's never been a movie this smart with this high a body count. Dark, beautiful, brutal and brilliant.

Review: I don't agree with many critics that L.A.Confidential deserved most of Titanic's oscars, but it definitively is a masterful film that is brilliantly acted (by Spacey, Basinger, Cromwell, DeVito and of course the two Australians), well written and has a gorgeous art direction. Goldsmith's music is a winner as well! A must see! Really!

Summary: This is One Film That Shouldn't Be Kept "Confidential".
Review: L.A. Confidential. Wow. This has got to be one of the most entertaining, gritty, and (yes, you heard me right) humorous movies in recent years. The entire cast is superb, especially Basinger, Spacey, and Cromwell. This, ladies and gentleman, is the film of '97, NOT Titanic or anything to do with it. The people at the academy should get their heads examained. Anyway, the plot focuses on one main story (A grisly murder in a coffee shop), and lots of little sub plots involving a writer for a tabloid named Hush-Hush, a bunch of hookers cut to look like movie stars, and stuff like blackmail and police corruption. Very good stuff. A very worthwhile and must see film with a powerhouse finale. And watch the end credits. Notice anything significant?

Review: A brilliant film with more than it's share of those truly memorable scenes that let you know how much you've enjoyed the movie. The interrogation scene was fantastic, and as usual Kevin Spacey's was the best performance in the entire piece.

Review: The movie by itself would be well worth owning this DVD. But, the extra material provided on the DVD make it one of the best you can own. Inside information on the filming of the action in LA and the behind the scene writing and directing information makes this a soon to be classic. The next time I am in LA I will plan to visit all the hot spots depicted in the film.

Summary: This movie was one of the best movies i've ever seen.
Review: I loved this movie. The acting was great the sceanery was great the action was very neat. Kevin spacy was excellent and the rest of the cast was just as good. This movie is for anyone who likes action movies with a great plot. The plot at sometimes may seem hard to follow but at the end it all comes together. You heard from me off the record on the qt and very hush-hush.

Review: L. A. confidential had the titanic misfortune of being released in 1997. It certainly could be the best film of either 96 or 98. Audiences paid multiple admissions to view Kate and Leonardo; they will buy the DVD to see the charactors of L. A. Confidential over and over as well. Much as a mark of a well made film, it improves with each viewing. One picks up on a sub-plot, or gesture, or particular choice of wording with each repetition - but the viewer does not tire of the plot or acting. Like the Godfather or Star Wars, it mixes seasoned professionals with gifted unknowns in an intriquing story that grows to consume your thoughts well after the image has stopped on the screen. A movie about crime, where the production was really robbed at the awards.

Review: This film is a great period film as well as featuring some great unknown acting as well as the stellar performances brought forth by Kevin Spacey and Danny DeVito. The DVD itself has a superior layout in its' design and function, very user friendly. Great story and not to forget Kim Basinger who delivered an excellent role as well.

Review: L.A. Confidential was, in my opinion, the best film of last year and the DVD is just great. Tons of extras that are actually fun and worthwhile to explore, superb sound, and a beautiful Widescreen picture make this a "must-have" for film fans. One of the very finest DVD's I have had the pleasure of experiencing.

Review: Russell Crowe comes out of nowhere to portray one of the all-time great movie tough cops in Bud White! Kim Basinger proves that she is more than a pretty face, and the entire cast keeps you so into the movie that you don't want it to end. This screenplay keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the plot twists will throw you...gauranteed!
