Review: This is the very best DVD, I have been wating for a special edtion of this movie ever since i first saw this movie with a freind way back in 1986, and let me tell all who love this film.- The DVD is a must have, the special edition which features the best commentary track ever heard by director Rob Reiner, it also features a isolated music score which rules, the very best part is a documentary filmed specialy for this DVD, this is not some old 1986 promo behind the scenes that's shot to air on HBO when the movie was first released, rather it is a film shot just for this DVD edition which is very good!!! We get treated to being visted by Rob Reiner, Stephen King all now in the year 2000 but also all the remaining actors from Richard Dryfus recalling his time while filming, and Wil Wheaton, Cory Feldman, Jerry O'connell, Keifer Southerland!!!! all discussing how the film affected them recalling funny moments about the shoot, and a very touching tribute to the very missed River Phoenix, all the actors fondly remember this fine actor and how tragic his death was fortold in the last scene of the film.. The special Documentry is 35min long and i promise you will love every second of it!! So run and purchase this gem of a film finally done right on DVD!! big thank you to columbia pictures!! your DVD's RULE!!!!!

Summary: A Classic Coming of Age Story
Review: While some of the acting in this story is at times a little awkward, the story and heart of this modern classic shine through at all times. This flick has stood the test of time and is one of Rob Reiner's best films and one of the best Stephen King adaptations.River Phonenix, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman, and Jerry O'Connell bring the characters to vivid life and are all touching in their own way as they all learn a little of life and themselves on their odyssey to claim the dead body of a dead kid their own age who's been hit by a train. Poignant observations on things that shape our character while growing up, such as alienation, stereotypes, and friendship give this affecting but funny story a sentimental and familiar flavor that can take anyone back to their youth. While perhaps a little sappy at times, the syrup somehow works. The DVD also has an excellent documentary interview with Reiner, King, Wheaton, Feldman, and O'Connell reflecting on the making of the movie. A fine collection to anyone's library.

Summary: New DVD Release Is the Definitive Version
Review: I'm not going to write a synopsis of the plot here or tell you how great the movie is. You already know that. If you are going to buy this movie on DVD and have never seen it, plan to watch the bonus documentary included on the new DVD release first, "Walking the Tracks," a behind-the-scenes look at the making of film as told by Rob Reiner, Stephen King, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman and Jerry O'Connell. You'll hear Wil explain why Gordie doesn't get his brother's Yankee cap returned, what Jerry O'Connell really thought of Kiefer Sutherland, and how Rob Reiner made two of the cast members weep during the train trestle scene! The docu footage appears to have been shot on the late 1990s or even early 2000, and it's wonderful to see these people together again (River Phoenix, who died in 1993, is not part of the documentary, but is referred to by just about everyone being interviewed). The DVD format has the advantage of letterbox format (don't worry--you won't get a shrunk and stretched-looking movie . . . the widescreen format for this movie is superb, and it will make you toss your old VHS copy in the trash five minutes into the movie). The sound is good as it gets, and you'll also have subtitle options (watch dialogue to the flick in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Tai, or Korean). Overdubbed voice options include French, Spanish, Portuguese, and of course, the original dialogue in English. The best part for me was watching the movie with English subtitles, which made me realize for the first time what some of the dialogue was (including some put downs my ears could never quite figure out--"wet end" and "whoremaster," among others). But far and away, the reason you must buy this DVD is to listen to Rob Reiner's personable director's commentary as the film plays. It's an option, so you can still watch and listen to the complete movie in its original format, but if you've already memorized the scenes because you've seen this movie countless times, listen to Rob's (apparently one-take and continuous) comments about each scene. He's also very funny, and his anecdote about the scene in which Ray Brower is found by the tracks is hilarious, despite the somber tone of this section of the movie. Other perks: the long-lost video of "Stand by Me," featuring singer Ben E. King, River Phoenix and Wil Wheaton (the song was originally a #4 hit in 1960 and was re-released in the fall of 1986, peaking at #9--Rob Reiner makes a comment about the song going to #1 both times, but he's not correct). Some other treats round out the DVD, like bios of each star and scene selection. Don't wait another minute. Buy/rent a DVD player if you don't already have one.

Summary: A true King
Review: Stand By Me is a classic and true Stephen King book, and one of those movie adaptations that I find highly succesfull unlike many others. The atmosphere, the city and surroundings are captured nicely, and you're litterally devoured by our 4 young heroes off on their life's adventure. Truly this movie gives you a great feeling, and also leaves material for thought on many things. A remarkable movie, brings back childhood!

Summary: One of the best legends of all time
Review: To say "Stand By Me" is a classic, is to be modestly talking about the film. In my opinion, it's more than a classic, it's a legend. It tells an unforgettable story of four friends who set off on a journey to find a missing body of a dead teen. Along the way is the real journey of the movie. It's mainly a story of teenage boys hanging out and growing up at the same time. On their way to find the dead body, they will encounter conflict and have even more good times. "Stand By Me" has more unforgettable sequences than just about any other drama movie. You'll never forget some of them such as the story that Gordie (Wil Wheaton) tells to his friends about a pie eating contest and when they all encounter leeches. And of course, one of my all time favorites from any movie, the scene where Gordie and Vern (Jerry O'Connell) are on a high rise train track when a train is coming from behind them. Kiefer Sutherland puts on a great performance as the boys' main enemy. River Phoenix also puts on one of his best performances before his death a few years ago. "Stand By Me" is one of my top ten favorite movies of all time and I know a lot of people who feel the same way about the movie. It's a classic in every sense and I recommend it to anybody no matter what kind of movies you like.

Summary: childhood and the moments you cherish
Review: Richard Dreyfuss narrates the film as he writes the story of an adventure that took place in his childhood with some characters he'll never forget. In the innocent 50's, Gordie (played masterfully by Wil Wheaton) is the lonely, unwanted brother of a beloved son who has died (John Cusack). His father is cold and unloving and the family constantly recalls the dead young man that could do no wrong, while neglecting the son that they have in their midsts... preventing Gordie from being able to mourn the brother he looked up to and misses dearly. A group of local teenage thugs with names like "Ace" (Kiefer Sutherland) and "Eyeball" are switch-blade wielding punks who happen upon the body of a mentally challenged boy who has been missing for a few days. As they make plans to return to the site to recover the body for a reward, Eyeball's younger brother (the late River Phoenix) and friend of Gordie's overhears the details. Gordie and 3 of his closest pals embark on an adventure to recover the body before the thugs do and have experiences that change their lives in the process. The story is far less about the body, and far more about the relationships the boys have with their fathers and each other. They camp out in the middle of woods during their adventure and tell stories and share their hearts with one another. Sometimes tender, sometimes drop dead funny, the story will give you a glimpse into the tender side of boys they rarely feel comfortable in sharing in our culture. Deep, caring guys who have been supressing their self-doubts, fears and anger and sometimes manifesting the emotions in humor, delinquent behavior or just overeating. The acting is superb and you feel less like you're watching a film and more like you're one of these guys, joining them on their adventure. It's amazing to see the chubby little Jerry O'Connell who grew up to be the buff chick-magnet on "Sliders" and bittersweet to see the late River Phoenix in his screen debut at a time in his life when there were no drinking binges or illicit drugs. The film is rich, tender and bittersweet. The soundtrack is also a definite keeper. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Takes you back to childhood
Review: Stand by Me is one of those movies that reminds you of the joys of being a kid. It reminded me a lot of the fun parts of my childhood. The movie deals with four boys going on an adventure to find a dead body, since it is based on the Stephen King novella,"The Body." The four boys are really different from each other, but they form a bond that will always exist. I think that it is great at the end when Richard Dreyfus in a small cameo as the adult Gordie says that he will never really have the same kind of friends as he did when he was a kid. To some degree, I believe that many people can relate to this feeling. River Phoenix(Chris Chambers), Wil Wheaton(Gordie LaChance), Corey Feldman(Teddy Duchamp), and Jerry O'Connell(Vern Tessio) are great as the four buddies who travel together in search of the dead body. They relay a true sense of companionship as the young friends. Some of the highlights include Gordie's pie eating contest story, the mad dash for Gordie and Vern to get to the other side of the railroad bridge, and the scene where Gordie stands by Chris and tells Ace(the older bully) to leave or there will be another dead body. If you ever want to go back and relive some of the adventures of your childhood, then you don't want to miss this movie.

Review: I liked Stand By Me because it reminds me of my friends. it reminds me of my friends and I because we have such imagination that we just take stupid chances.Stand By Me is my favorite movie. I saw for my first time when i was 10. I'll never forget the funny situations they got into.

Summary: Set out to see a... dead body.
Review: I loved this movie, not to mention the book (The Body, by Stephen King). It is about four 12 year old boys hiking out to see a peers dead body. It is so funny, with cussing, and typical 12 year old boy stuff, and it is also serious at some times. The boys don't really have great parents, and mostly just hang out with each other. They set out, with some money, and meet so many stops along the way. It brings suspense at the end and guaranteed to keep you in all the way through. It reminds me so much of me and my friends, I am 12. It is exactly how we act, so it was fun to watch and read.It will definately become a classic later on. It is very funny and intense, and just great.I Loved it and hope you do to.

Summary: THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE IN THE HISTORY OF GREAT MOVIES
Review: This is just the most marvelous movie ever....it's funny, it's touching....it really makes you think about the priorities in life...especially when gordie says that he felt like the luckiest boy on earth just because he was with his friends...it was just marvelous. therre's not much else to say, just amrvelous. Ihave watched it already about 6,789 times in my life but I assure you that I will watch it another million times, i can never get tired of it. It's spectacular: a total MUST-SEE.
