Summary: Powerful film that takes you to the edge of your humanity
Review: romper stomper is a fabulous cinematic piece. Gregory Wright took a great story, characters and put them together like an expressionist painter, bringing all the pieces together like fine brush strokes, to reveal a vivid and fascinating tale of Melbourne skinheads and punks. The lead character, Russel Crowe, as the boss Punk, Hondo, is amazing, you can see his early brillance here before his noted performance in L.A. Confidential. Whenvever he is on the screen you are drawn to him, he mesmerizes you. He is as brilliant as Malcolm McDowell in a ClockWork Orange. Both of these figures Hondo and Alex, live in a violent sociopathic world that torments, drives and dominates their lives. but unlike Clockwork, Hondo has no government in his way, nothing stops him, he is a force of nature. Only the twisting ending and treachery can stop him. Davey also has a brilliantly subdued performance as Hondo's number two man. Although on the cover this film can be billed a skinhead exploitation film, it is more about the insanity that faces all of us. but unlike most of us, who have beliefs and fears which restrain us, these skinheads and even the asians later on, are free. they exist on the edge as boogey men and nightmares for all good people to fear. But the reality is they are the uninhibited, the renaissance figures of modern enlightenment, because they do not allow the challenges of their day, and modern industrialization to tear them down. Instead they fight back and stampede against consumerism and the comercial greed that controls our lives . this is best exemplified when the characters rob the female lead's father's home. The gang members have little interest in teh belongings but are more focused on having fun with their friends and causing mayhem. it shows their complete rebellion and independence from the corrupting control of capitalism and beauracracy. Although anarchy and hobbe's warre are not popular, Wright in this film definitely shows a popular twist to it, but in the end, he says that altough it might be fun, the state of nature and the world without law is much more dangerous. This is is illustrated by the finale. here, the government, parents and beauracracy of australia cannot stop the last two skin heads. only the destructiveness and violence of their world can end and annihalate their rampages.

Summary: GREAT MOVIE
Review: I have to say I was a little aprehensive about this movie at first. My friend picked it up at the video store and I sat down and watched it. Afterit was finished I ran out an bought my own copy. Briliant. I thought I would be doomed to watch a nother "oh we see the errors of our ways" type movie. But much to my surprise this did not happen. Although it kind of seems like Davey may start on the right path after the death of Hando. But it does not raise skinheads up. It does not send them down either. It shows them for what they are. Human beings. They are just a little more pissed than the rest of us. Well okay,a lot more pissed.

Summary: An instant cult hit. . .
Review: "Romper Stomper" is definitely in my 'top ten of all time' list. . . it explores the sicko world of nazi skinheads (NOT the same as traditonal, non-racist skinheads) and exposes how horrible and ultimately destructive racial hatred is. Any true collector of cult has at least one copy in their collection.

Summary: A promising movie that quickly loses direction.
Review: This would have to be one of those movies that starts off so promising but ends up quickly losing its direction towards the end that you just wonder what the point of the film actually was. The visuals, however, are quite nice, the acting is good by most, but terrible by others. Some of the annoying nazi pusedo-punk themed songs make you wonder if this is just a bad music video or if they went underbudget when it came to doing the sound for the film. It was one aspect of the film that I felt which had major room for improvement. I like the film just because it is so corny, sort of like a Rocky Horror type film about nazis, just no lip-synching to the music. In some parts of the movie, you just have to laugh at the downright stupidity of the characters, as they are trying to do so much and often accomplish nothing. Mostly unpredictable, the fun in watching this movie is wondering just what it is they're going to do to screw up next. I give credit to the writers for not bowing down to the need to be so PC in this film, so intead of watching a violent film about racism that ends up apologizing for everything as it moves along, you get it all raw and thrown right at your face. It's entertainment, and pretty much just that.

Summary: Disturbing
Review: This film gives you a peek into a life most people know nothing about. It is about a gang of Nazi skinheads. What I really liked about this film was the way it was handled. It does not glorify these skinheads, nor does it apologize for them. It is a disturbing topic. Inspite of myself, I became absorbed in this story of hate-filled, racist skinheads. As I mentioned, it doesn't glorify the lifestyle. You won't watch it and then run out and shave your head. It doesn't have a Disney ending where everyone realizes the error of their ways and becomes upstanding citizens. For this I respect this film even though I don't agree with the views.

Summary: An action packed yet realistic movie.
Review: An action packed movie that details the life of skins and their trubles. This movie does not judge but it will inform all that watch. A Stomping Good Time. Oi! Oi! Oi!

Summary: Absolutely brilliant expression of ethnic enmity
Review: Only a top rate script, tight direction and an inspired performance by the lead Russell Crowe make this an absorbing movie. The subject matter is incisive and telling and it is presented in a way that brooks no misunderstanding. One of the great films of our time, and one of the greatest acts by its star Russell Crowe. No wonder his uncle is impressed. END

Summary: REDEFINES "RAW" AND COUCHES MORE THAN AN ETHNIC MESSAGE
Review: Filmed in gut-wrenching 16mm with a hand held, this is a courageously unsparing film of a neo-Nazi skinhead gang in Melbourne (Australia) obsessed with the danger they perceive in the growing population of Vietnamese immigrants.

Although it has been criticized for "glorifying" skinheads and not taking a moral position against them, neither criticism is really well-founded.

It is clear that the director and the actors made a great effort to get inside the characters, to make them human beings -- however repulsive -- and not simply caricatures. Still, the skinhead lifestyle depicted is mean, mindless, unromantic and, ultimately, pointless. Which becomes clear at the end when the leader (brilliantly played by Crowe) commits one final act of brutal bullying. What was their message really?

Also, for all their posturing, they are mindless bullies, ganging up on isolated victims, and they are completely undone when faced with victims who join forces and fight back with the same intensity. By the end, all but one of the gang members is in jail or dead, which seems to me to be a pretty powerful moral statement.

It is surely not perfect but it features genuinely terrifying performances of men totally twisted and misshapen by hatred, frustration and fear, yet capable of genuine affection and tenderness towards their best friends.

I recommend renting this out if you have some appetite for gore and unflinching visuals.
