Summary: BAD MOVIE
Review: B-Movie about crazy mental things and Softcore Pornography, this film is about Rachel, a young girl from Chicago who comes to her home in Detroit to find herself trapped in the world of Porn.

Summary: terrible.
Review: Couldn't watch it. Gave it a chance for 20 minutes, and it sucked worse then than at 15 minutes and ten minutes. This wasn't worth the media it was produced on.

Summary: This Direct to Video Movie is Not That Good
Review: Detroit filmmaking is scarce however, can this really be considered that? I don't know, appearantly it is a student film from Wayne State. It had A lot of unecessary nudity and violence, and no that doesn't sell...STORY SELLS! this story wasn't really interesting, in fact there wasn't really a story, and it was a attempt to re-create 8 MM from Nicolas Cage, and the attempt wasn't sucessful. Once again this is a STUDENT FILM! (not saying that student films are bad, some are actually good and deserve distribution, but this isn't) Don't buy this, don't rent this, don't look at it..consider it one of those B-Movies you see on the new release shelf like "Python 4: Return to the Jungle"...the fact that some of the crew of this film worked on a movie called Mosquito about a giant mosquito says it all...This film is Terrible!!! Whats with all the horror genre direct to video movies anyway? Want to see a movie made in Detroit go see "8 Mile", want to see a horror movie about crazy mental things go see "8MM". It was like a porn with a crazy guy running around with an axe or something, don't watch this.

Summary: Great low budget indie film
Review: I just recently watched this film with my boyfreind and I thought that it was much better than expected. I thought it was going to be some kind of soft porn but instead I watched an intelligent indie thriller. I thought the actress that played Rachel was right on. It was kinda wierd in parts, but overall it kept my attention. Thumbs up for the genre-

Review: It had always been my dream to do Special FX make-up for films; my dealings mostly in the dark realms of the mind. By chance, I had worked on a previous film with Gunnar Hansen ("Mosquito"), and was offered the opportunity to do some "Key" Special FX for "Rachel's Attic". I jumped at the opportunity; not only was it a chance to put another film under my belt, but it was also the setting in which I would be working: The Wayne State Mortuary, near Detroit, Michigan.

With the smell of fermeldahyde and other chemicals in the air, I worked diligently to create the main Special Effect for the "Autopsy" scene. Several hours into the work, we took a break, being invited upstairs to see a "real" autopsy corpse. That sight will always remain engraved in my mind. That is how "Rachel's Attic" is to the viewer. It settles you in for a good "popcorn" film, but then takes you by the throat and drags you through the graveyard, kicking and screaming.

The acting is decent, and the story is pretty good. But, it's some of the visuals which are more stunning than anything else. From Rachel's romp through the "S&M" set for Alice in Wonderland, to the mildly-retarded character portrayed by Gunnar Hansen in several black-and-white sequences. Overall, the underlying story of a child's abuse seems to be a bit more convincing than the acts performed by the serial killer within.

David Tybor's direction is complete and thourough, transcending the typical "B" flick. He is keen on creating some mild suspense in the beginning and during the other scenes where the killer dons his video-linked mask. A very good effort for his first feature.

As for the costume created by David Waszak for the killer, I feel that it's a change from the typical serial killer's style, and helps in building a bit of a mystery around whom it is who dons the mask. There isn't much in the "gross-out" factor, as with most other films Dave, myself and the other crew of Northern FX have worked on, but what little there is, is done with high quality.

Review: It is not possible to sit through more than ten minutes of "Rachel's Attic" without wanting to rip your eyes out of their sockets. I didn't think it possible to see a film that is so monumentally bad on every level. Lighting, acting, shot composition, music, sound mix, and what the creators of this film apparently try to pass of as a "story" all add up to what is possibly the worst film ever created. And what's more, it's 16mm, meaning that someone spent an awful lot of money on this one.

Please, for the love of God, and your own respect for the art of cinema, avoid "Rachel's Attic" at all costs.

Summary: It will leave you scared and breathless! Don't watch alone!
Review: The producers and director of Rachel's Attic know how to make a movie! I just watched the film last night on Devils Night and loved the movie! It was intense and creepy! The film stars Gunnar Hansen from the 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre classic and Attic is his best work yet! Hansen plays a retarded child molester and is scary as hell!

His character in Rachel's Attic is based on a true, real life child molester and killer from Detroit. Attic has more than one killer, the second character could be the next big horror icon, but I not giving that one away. I checked out the film online before I bought it and I was hooked. I read a online message board and It said that a new directors cut will be out soon with the directors original version, uncut with a lot of extras including a making of the film!

I also read there will be a Westwood screening of the new directors cut! I'm pumped! This is a must see film for any hard-core horror fan! I'm new to the FX world, but I found the FX in the film fantastic! I'm glad I picked up this rare and out of print film!

Beware of the plastic wrap scene! It took my breath away!

I LOVED IT!

Summary: Worst movie known to man...I am warning you!
Review: The special effects were the biggest joke if anything...

Now to the review'

After watching this movie for five minutes, I had come to the conclusion that it was the worst thing I had ever seen in my life. I am taking the time to write a review to warn you from making the mistake of buying this movie. It was like watching a [dirty movie] with the guy from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, I wanted to vomit. That about sums the movie up. Now if you read the plot summery it does sound like good movie, Well it is not. ...

Summary: A movie for the artistic goth
Review: This film often gets compared to the film 8MM by it critics. That film due to a higher budget and larger production staff was able to make and distribute 8MM a year after RACHEL'S ATTIC was in post.

The story is about Rachel who is searching for her missing sister who had become involved in an underground S&M community (Not Porn). In order to find her sister she becomes immersed in the community only to discover that a greater danger is feeding off this industry.

Now, IMH(yet biased)O, this was an ambitious project that yielded a film that IS worth watching. But, just like Lynch and Cronenberg isn't for everyone, you can find this film fascinating and disturbing. There are moments worthy of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3K and some serious situations that reflect the darker aspects of human need.

My only complaint is that Spectrum Films failed to include the extras and to divide the program into chapters. Fortunately the translation from 16mm (twice as good as 8mm) to DVD worked well and the sound is solid.
